Itinerary

This Bangkok food tour stops at several venues and includes food and drink tastings. At your selected departure time, meet your guide and small group at a central location and set out for the back streets of the Bang Rak district, known for its diverse offerings of local Thai food. Along the way, gain intimate knowledge of the neighborhood’s history, culture, and cuisine from your experienced guide.

Taste curry puffs at a street food vendor; sip Thai iced tea or coffee at the Bang Rak Bazaar; bite into a sampling of tropical fruits at Bangkok’s second-oldest wet market; and try Chinese herbal drinks at a local Chinese grocery, located in a traditional shophouse.

Visit a family-run eatery to share plates of fried and roasted chicken noodles topped with an egg. Then walk to a traditional Thai sweet shop for a tempting dessert platter. Be sure to save some room for som tam (green papaya salad) at an establishment popular with locals, and don’t be shy about tasting larb (minced meat salad)—a northern Thai staple.

Savor the regional flavors of Thai curry at your last stop, a traditional royal Thai restaurant run by descendants of the royal family, before your tour ends.

This tour was just myself and my guide, Sally. She did a great job! I let her know that I had been on a different food tour earlier in the week and she made sure that I got to try different things from that one. The map with basic phrases was helpful to keep track of where we went so I can come back later. Highly recommended!

Scandalous! A complete waste of time.

Stefan_R, Nov 2024
I booked a tour, followed all the instructions, and yet the guide never showed up. It was my last evening in Bangkok, and I wasted hour waiting for someone who never appeared. They offered was a refund—which doesn't help after losing an entire evening. This is a total scandal. My time was wasted, and my last night in Bangkok was ruined. I will never use their services again and warn everyone to stay away from this company Bangkok Food Tour of Bang Rak with Local Guide , Operated by: Taste of Thailand

Great local food tour

Goktug_E, Jun 2023
We had a great food tour with our guide Ohm. He was very knowledgeable and he explained a lot about local food. Our favorite was the roti with pandan with banana inside. Food was delicious, we were very happy with our experience.

No show, very poor sevice.

Robert_J, Feb 2023
Nobody turned up for the tour, we waited at the appointed meeting place for half hour, the guide bid not turn up..... We have tried to contact the operator without success. We have contacted our bank to have the payment cancelled and the funds returned! This is the second time we have had an issue with Viator, we will not be using them again. We strongly recommend others do not book this tour or us Viator!!!!

Response from Host, Feb 2023

Another Great Eat and Learn!!

Jon_P, Feb 2020
Very well done tour, with great mix of "street" food from vendors, small kitchens in the Bang Rak Market, and excellent local restaurant. Knowledgeable guide described the traditions of each dish, and ingredients. There was considerable local history she presented as well. Evening tour seemed best while market is busiest and most interesting. This is a must do tour; especially fun after having done a cooking class in the AM. This particular tour was a meal's amount of food. Don't eat a late lunch!

Good food tour overall

Caitlin_L, Feb 2020
Bella was a great tour guide. We got to go to places we never would have stopped at on our own and got to try some great authentic Thai food. However, she took pictures at every stop and said pictures would be emailed to us and we never received them. Was really looking forward to the pictures to document what all we got to try.

Great Intro to Thai Food

Katherine_R, Dec 2019
Tour guide ( Ja Jaa) was informative & easy to understand. We tasted variety of foods...( grilled skewer pork, Thai tea, Thai dessert of sticky rice, noodle dishes, salads, fruits....) There is a bit of walking about. We went places we would not ventured on our own, which was the point of this tour. There were 2 opportunites for restroom on the tour. I would advise to skip breakfast or eat a light breakfast before this tour. Meeting point was easy to find. Tour guide helped us find our way back. Great tour.

Excellent food tour

Nader_M, Oct 2019
This was an excellent food tour. My wife and I enjoyed it very much. Our tour guide, Aoy, was very knowledgeable. We visited about 8 establishments and tired over dozen items.

Great food

Wonderful evening

DeedsB, Jul 2019
We loved our tour. If you are staying near Bangrak and even if you are not, this tour is brilliant. We visited lots of different food places that we had walked right by before. Never again. The tour has opened up a world of dining possibilities.

Interesting and delicious!

Very tasty tour.

Overall it's a tour worth doing , we visited many tasty spots that we probably would never find. We had some of the best meals I've ever had in the little places or stalls that are included in this tour. I would give it 5 stars if the guide wouldn't run from one place to another without speaking to the group like she was in a hurry.

Eduardo C, Aug 2018
Besides the hustle of the streets, the stand-up joints, tables in the street and more formal sit-down restaurants we got to see the variety of condiments used in making curry paste, visited a sweets business that was created by a a former chef in the Thai royal court, how coffee is made in the streets of Bangkok and drank a very, very good coffee from a plastic bag!... Bella, our guide, and Pat, her aide in training, are obviously at home navigating this multicultural neighborhood. They provided a very enjoyable and unique experience. Some of the places we visited would be very hard if not impossible to find otherwise. This is a brief but very good introduction to the sights, colors, smells and the art of eating in Bangkok.

Excellent Eating tour of some of the hidden gems in the Bang Rak District

Derrick W, Jul 2018
Katy was a great tour guide. She took our group to restaurants that were located in some of the back alleys of Bang Rak. We tried traditional Thai and Chinese dishes, and received education on the background of the many different cultures, people and food that together, define this vibrant city. Katy is a teacher by profession, so it stands to reason that we started the tour with some learning goals and objectives. Throughout the tour, Katy would consistently refer back to them as she discussed the history surrounding the areas we were in, and the food we were eating. Then, at the end of the evening, we debriefed as a group, and Katy summarized the tour, and circled back to our initial goals and objectives. Overall, it was a great evening with listening to Katy, and making some new friends along the way. Thank you again for a truly enjoyable evening.

Great food tour!!!

PETER_P, Jul 2018
Even though we were slightly late, we were able to catch up with tour group. Enjoyed the walking tour of great Thai food. It is an experience that must be done when in Bangkok. Enjoyed every food that we sampled and we were full from it all!!!

Insider perspective on Thai food

Greatly enjoyed this tour. It was a lot of food and we greatly enjoyed trying all the food. The walk wasn't an issue - it helped to walk some of the food down to eat more and see the city up close. Bella, our tour guide was awesome. She was knowledgeable, funny, and good at her job. It was great that she took pictures and sent them to us which was a very nice touch. We had a great group which made the tour even better. I recommend this tour and Bella!

We had been in Bangkok for a few days before we went on this trip and were leaving for other parts of Thailand the next day. The tour was amazing and set us up to understand Thai food better and know how to eat Thai food, what types of food items we might light to eat more of, and the history of various foods in Thailand. The guide was great, our group were strangers before but not after the tour, and the local food purveyors were wonderful! Would highly recommend this trip to anyone!!

We had a great morning with our guide, Katy. We sampled some street food, some restaurant food and had some experiences truly eating like a native! Katy was knowledgeable about the food, the history of the area and the restaurants. We discovered some small eateries of Bangkok that we would never have found on our own and ate some truly delicious and interesting food. Katy promised that, during our 3 1/2 hour tour, we would learn about Bag Rak, learn about some food and be full! She scored a 3/3!

The Foodtour in Bangkok was amazing. The guide was great and gives us a lot of interesting information. He showed us great places and also behind alleys. The food was delicous! Everything works and was on time. It was a perfect evening for us. We would recommend it and would do the tour again - just because it's absolutly fun!

Kimberly C, Mar 2018
This food tour was just OK - we took the night version of the tour, and nearly half of the vendors were closed. The day version of the tour seems to have gotten decent reviews, but on the night version we got a limited tour with no substitutions for the closed food stops. This would have been really good to know beforehand, as we would not have taken this tour. If there had been comparable alternative stops (or any additional stops at all), it would have made a huge difference. As it was, I do not recommend this tour and think the tour company was remiss, if not dishonest, in not being up-front with the closings of tour stops at night.

Jason S, Feb 2018
You do get good seating at venues that would be difficult otherwise. But this is mostly old-old-school Chinatown food, greasy and undistinguished. And you must expect an authentic, hot, muggy, uncomfortable Bangkok Chinatown experience. The guide was pleasant but didn't add a lot of info.

Food and guide, Bella was fantastic. Really enjoyed the variety and locations.

Mindy_O, Feb 2018
Tamie was GREAT fun! Talented, informative, with a sense of humor to make the trip extra fun. Lots of food. She also took a lot of photos and promised to send them to us so that we don't have to try to take a selfie while trying to eat our street food. She was also good about washing our hands with wipes and purrel-ing. Recommend.

John R, Feb 2018
Joker was a great guide and he managed a difficult member of the group well. We certainly eat in places we would not of ventured into or near. However, unless you are really into back street street food I would not recommend it as the food was not of a high quality - or warm in some cases. Guess this depends on your own preferences. On the positive we both eat and drank the local meals and were fine the next day.
