We enjoyed so many aspects of this tour. It was great to gain some historical knowledge not only about Avignon, but also the food of the region. Zahra's quick wit and ability to keep us engaged during our walk around the city and while eating made this experience very enjoyable.

Overview

Get an insider’s perspective on some of the best local eateries in Avignon with this small-group food tour. With a guide handling the route, explore the medieval town—known as the City of Popes—and sample some of the best food it offers, from Provencal tapenade and olive oil to traditional fougasse (flatbread) and local sweet treats. Visit spots most travelers miss out on, and enjoy a full meal across multiple stops, including a glass of wine.
  • Taste your way through Avingnon on a food tour and eat like a local

“5 Star” Experience with a “5 Star Guide”

Jerrilee_T, Mar 2026
Zara was absolutely made the experience a 5 Star. The food at each stop was exceptional, but it was her knowledge of Avignon, the Provence Region and the local food providers that made the quality difference. It was a cold and overcast day, but we learned about Avignon, and Provence, the cuisine and culture. We shared exquisite food, smiles and laughter and have wonderful memories to share. A return trip is in the planning!

Michelle, ma belle!

Michelle was a fabulous guide. She communicated fluently. She curated a fascinating culinary tour. She also allowed us to message her later to seek advice and guidance.

#NoRegrets

Amber_N, Sep 2025
My husband and I absolutely loved this tour! We joined in mid-September with Zahra as our host, and it was the perfect start to our time in Avignon. Zahra was amazing! Warm, knowledgeable, and full of great tips. My husband especially enjoyed the architecture and history she shared along the way. We met fellow travelers from around the world (Brits, Australians, and Americans), which made it even more fun. The time flew by, and the food was simply delicious. We tried candies, honey, cheeses, tapenades, desserts and more! I highly (!!) recommend doing this on your first day in Avignon to get a lay of the land and insider tips for shopping and exploring. I dropped some map pins and went back for the best souvenirs and gifts the next day. Zahra seems to know everyone and every great spot in town, so she can customize suggestions to your interests, just ask! It wasn’t just about eating, we also learned why Avignon’s food is so special and how it’s prepared. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle, and immerse yourself. You’ll leave having tasted something new and memorable, I promise. Thank you, Zahra, for a fantastic experience. We would happily do it again!

A walking lunch experience

Marilyn_M, Sep 2025
The tour starts with a visit to Les Halles where we sampled bread and some olive spreads and olive oil. The market itself is very nice and it would have been a better experience to have some time to see the whole market. From there we went to a cafe on the edge of the square and had a choice of two quiches or pizza. That came with a fresh salad and a glass of wine. From there we sampled some nougat and then to another location for a tart of our choice amongst five flavors. Then in the heat of the day we walked to a place with callisons and nougat and a taste of lavender syrup. The guide was a lovely young woman who was very pleasant but I thought the tour was light on information and knowledge of Provençal cuisine.

Culinary Delight

James_H, Sep 2025
The tour was very good. An opportunity to explore the city while sampling some tasty food. Our guide was personable, helpful, and took an active interest in the group members.

Basic Food tour for those who don’t explore on their own

Christen_K, Sep 2025
Our host was amazing! Clara was fun, informative and engaging. The food was blah! Little samples of things we could have walk into the store ourselves and sampled. and then a quiche and simple salad for dinner. We experienced more unique food exploring on our own. And was disappointed to have a basic quiche for one of our dinners in France. We have had a food tour in another country that explored the more unique flavors of the region. I was hoping for that with this tour.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback! We’re thrilled to hear that Clara made your tour fun, engaging, and informative, she truly loves sharing her passion for our local food and culture. We appreciate your honesty about the meals and will take your comments into account as we continue to refine our culinary offerings. We’re glad you still enjoyed exploring and experiencing a taste of the region.

The food was yummy but as...

Ginger_M, Sep 2025
The food was yummy but as we reversed the town, we would have liked to hear about some the history of it, or the restaurants chosen or the food.

Great Tour With Melise in Avignon!

Courtney_J, Jun 2025
Melise was perfect for us! She was so knowledgeable, fun, authentic and patient with our many questions. It started as a rainy day but we were all game and she just marched on with us. We tasted olives, cheese, fois gras of so many kinds, truffles, honey, wine, lunched like a local, ice cream (I think gelato), all sorts of goodies infused with truffles and lavender...oh my goodness the list went on. And she was so informed about the town and area! I'm so glad we had her and highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn alot and have a fun time with a smart local!

Review of Walking and Eating tour in Avignon

Laura_T, May 2025
This was an amazing experience. Our guide Zarah was excellent. She told us the history of Avignon and the sites we saw. Gave us extra unique facts. The tastings we did at the quaint restaurants and shops were delicious. This tour was very well planned . Loved it ! Highly recommend!!

An incredible progressive meal!

Sylvia_O, May 2025
In addition to sampling wonderful foods there is a casual tour of Avignon itself. We were made aware of the interesting sights we would not have otherwise noticed or understood without our knowledgeable guide. It is not just a tour of a market but our guide selected the best from a number of restaurants. Be prepared to walk so you can appreciate all of the food.

Wonderful food and city tour.

Joel_S, Apr 2025
We learned so much about Avignon and Provence in addition to great food! All the stops were wonderful and Zahra a wealth of knowledge. Maybe our beating many tours!

Excellent experience!

John_S, Apr 2025
Avignon is a very walkable city. There are numerous little side streets leading to small plazas with hidden away restaurants and pastry shops. Melissa was a fantastic guide. She took us to various places to get a taste of local treats and was a wonderful conversationalist as well. We have been in Avignon for a week and still found places we had not even seen thanks to her. Definitely a worthwhile tour while in the city. Plus, a great way to meet people with whom you get to tour. Big thanks to Melissa!

Don't miss the tour!!

Linda_H, Mar 2025
Zahra was a superb tour guide. She had so much information to offer about the city, the food and Provence. Could not be better. The food was magnificent. We had seen so many food delights and didn't know where to start tasting while visiting. So many more food delights ahead. Thank you Zahra!!
