    Nile Cruise Experience Good and Bad

    The management team based in the UK, were excellent, in all ways. The Egyptologist assigned to us was both friendly and knowledgeable, but this did not last. He, Ahmed, handed us over to another guide late the night of the penultimate day. Ahmed was to remain with us for the duration of our tour. This new guide did not speak English, and my wife and I had a muted tour around the Luxor sites. We cut our sightseeing short the next day because the guide was completely useless. We decided to leave early and continue our journey to Hurghada. However, relating this to the guide and driver, resulted in a go-slow. We wanted to get to Hurghada for an afternoon meal at the hotel, but I believe they were being paid by the amount of time they spend with us, and drove us round and round at a snails pace, before finally handing us over to another driver, the third driver since the previous evening, when we were told that the first driver would be with us all the way to Hurghada. The penultimate day, our first guide, Ahmed, told us that instead of getting up at 03.15hrs and taking the Balloon tour over Luxor, returning to the boat for breakfast, and being picked-up by our guide later, we should checkout from the boat, miss breakfast, and the guide would collect our bags and meet us at the Balloon to continue the Luxor sightseeing and he would get us to our hotel in Hurghada for lunch. This was a fiasco, not because the Balloon was cancelled at the airstrip bacause of inclement weather, that is quite normal, it was the fact that our driver taking us to Hurghada said that because of the distance, it would have been impossible to get to Hurghada hotel for lunch. The second guide also wanted us to go back to the boat to be picked-up from, although she did not understand that we had already checked out. As the Balloon tour was cancelled, the management in the UK decided to refund the costs immediately that morning, which was excellent service, however, the driver and second guide had to take me to a factory to get the money. On arrival, the driver went in alone. He returned and we drove away. I asked if he had received my money, and was told no, by both driver and guide, and that we had to go to another place. It got very nasty in the car, until the driver stopped and took my money out of his pocket and gave it to me. He had received it at the first stop. The company do not own the boat, but find places for their clients on boats that plie the Nile cruise route. They therefore have no say as to what goes on, on the boat. The boat was very nice and comfortable and staff exemplary, but our guide, and in turn, us, were kept in the dark about sailing and arrival times. Although this has nothing to do with our guide, the boat Captain was always late for departing and arriving, so much so, and after all the boat had such a short distance to travel each day, that the itinerary, our expectations, and eating plans were always disturbed. I cannot recommend this tour with this company, FlyBy, for all of the above, but in particular, the treatment we received the last two days. Tour completed December 2021
