I had the pleasure of taking this class with Fuji. You get to wear the traditional workwear, learn about the process and get real hands on experience making the paper. The shop is so quaint near the Senso-ji shrine, but had so many beautiful traditional Japanese papers and paper related gifts. Highly recommend!
Response from Host, Apr 2026

It means a lot to know that you appreciated wearing the traditional workwear, learning the process, and experiencing hands-on papermaking. We are also happy that you enjoyed our quaint shop near Senso-ji and the selection of traditional Japanese papers and gifts. We would love to welcome you again whenever you visit Asakusa.

Such a neat experience! We booked this on a whim and were not disappointed. Our instructor gave us some history about paper making in Japan, and how the entire process works. He helped us through the entire process and explained everything as we went through it. Such a cool souvenir to take home and unique learning experience.

So cool!! Highly recommend!! This takes place in a small shop. They show you a video at the beginning but then explain and walk you through on how to make it. Very hands on. Recommend doing the 4 color. If you are solo, they take pictures for you ☺️

I loved this workshop, as it gave me an idea about how the washi paper is made. It‘s “only“ 1 hour but really well organized so that one learns briefly about the history and then goes through the making process oneself. Highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in this art. Thank you so much for this beautiful workshop!
Response from Host, Oct 2025

This was the highlight of the workshops we did in our 2wk Japan trip! It was a great hands on personal instruction lesson where we got to do every step ourselves. Kazu was so friendly and encouraging making sure to give plenty of pauses for photos. Making paper was such a unique experience and it was great having multiple things to take home. Would definitely recommend doing this workshop!

Steeven_T, May 2025
The activity lasted 35 minutes. On those 35 minutes, there was a 15 minutes where we were just wairing for the paper to dry doing nothing. This is ridiculous and not worth your money.
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you very much for participating in our workshop and for sharing your valuable feedback.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the waiting time during the paper drying process.
Due to the nature of traditional washi-making, a drying period is unfortunately unavoidable. However, we regret that our guidance and arrangements during that time were insufficient.
Moving forward, we will make improvements to the experience and enhance our explanations so that even the waiting time can be more meaningful and enjoyable.
Thank you again for your honest feedback.

The experience was great. The class is capped at a small number so that everyone has time to create their own paper batch and be mindful of everyones time. The teacher/craftsman was very knowledgeable and enjoyable to learn from. Very unique experience. Highly recommend.

Thank you for participating in our workshop last year and for writing a wonderful review!
Sorry for the late reply!
I'm very happy to hear that you liked the papermaking experience! I would be happy if you could look at the finished washi and remember Japan.
If you ever come to Japan again, please feel free to stop by! ;)

Beautiful little shop, educational experience including learning about the whole process of harvesting mulberry bark, then very hands on in the fascinating process of making the paper. Kaza (sp?) was a knowledgeable and patient teacher. The paper I took home is strong and lovely. Be aware, no restroom in the shop.

We enjoyed learning about the process of making washi paper and Kenzo was a great teacher. Plenty of opportunities to take photos along the way. A quick (about 1 hour) and fun activity for the whole family.

Please come and visit us again! :)

Did this activity with 3 teenage daughters. We enjoyed learning about how the paper is made starting from the mulberry tree itself and then actually using the fibers to make our own paper/postcards . To add a color design there was a small fee- would rather have had this included with original cost but it was minimal. the instructor was friendly and answered questions about technique and history.
Response from Host, Jul 2024
Thank you for participating in the workshop!
We are really happy that the children enjoyed it.
I hope it was a good memory of Japan !
Since most of our washi paper is handmade, we hope you understand that the price may be a little higher.
Please come and visit us again! :)
