Itinerary

Your day trip starts with pickup in Adelaide by luxury vehicle for the journey south of the city to McLaren Vale, one of Australia’s top wine regions, known for its production of shiraz. Receive a brief introduction to the bike tour before hopping on your high-quality mountain bike and taking off with your experienced guide.

Pedal through Kuitpo Forest, home to abundant radiata pines that keep the path shady, and cycle along parts of the Kidman Trail. Because your tour starts from one of the highest points in the region, you can enjoy a leisurely ride down Willunga Hill while you admire scenic vineyard views. Pass by wineries surrounded by vine-covered slopes, and stop at two wineries for wine tastings. If you purchase any bottles of your favorite varietals, they can be transported in the tour vehicle. Additional stops may also be made depending on time and the interests of your group.

Lunch is provided from a mix of produce and other items from local farms, giving you the opportunity to enjoy more of the region’s culinary delights. Then continue by bike to your final stop, which you may choose as a group with your guide. Perhaps you’d like to try beer instead of wine with a visit to a local microbrewery, for instance. If your legs are too tired to go on at this point, you may hop in the tour vehicle. At the end of your bike ride, you and your purchases are driven back to Adelaide for drop-off at your hotel, where you just might feel like uncorking one of your new bottles to toast your McLaren Vale adventure.

A great day out. Pick up was easy, bikes were in great condition. Lee our tour guide was awesome, good fun and knew his stuff both about biking and wine. We visited some stunning small scale wineries which was a real treat and much nicer than heading to the brand name places in the Barossa. We got to chat with some amazing winemakers. He even changed the tour for our small group of 5 as we all.loved our reds. Would definitely recommend to friends.

Great day in the Vale

Rosemarie_A, Nov 2023
A really great way to experience the McLaren wine valley. Visited the right number of wineries and the last stop at a micro-brewery was a bonus. The biking was relatively easy with most of it being downhill. The first part of the day was a ride around a gorge. It did entail loading up, which was relatively quick and easy, and then driving to the Vale to start the ride there. The gorge ride was nice but I would have preferred to ride more through the wine growing areas.

Relaxing way to visit wineries

An exciting bike tour with Ian. He is so caring and does a full briefing to us every steps ahead for safe and a happy hike! My teen loved and enjoyed it very much! A relaxing bike tour!

Bikes, Roos and wine

The tour was under book but they took us anyway with just 2 people. Beyond kind. It was the best tour we had in South Australia. Fun, beautiful valley, great guide. Just terrific. I would go again !

I rarely ride, but that day I did mountain biking!

Linda_H, May 2022
This ride is memorable. We rode on an overcast day with heavy drizzle at the end of the first leg of riding. There are some parts of the ride that may be tricky. For me, I do not ride often and if I do they are on flat grounds. This ride can be quite exciting but it is recommended that you go if you are confident of manipulating the bike according to the line of ride, and are able to negotiate slopes. It's a nice to ride to visit vineyards and absolutely recommended for those who has mountain bike experience. I might have to practise more before I attempt again, as during the trip I fell 3 times when my control wasn't good enough and it went off the course, or I rode over a rock and tripped. At places I was not confident at all, I just got down and pushed my bike. At some narrow path, falling over to the left may means rolling down the slope. So, know your limits!

Awesome Experience!

Fantastic day out. We absolutely loved it! Lee was a great guide and the day was more than we expected! Thank you for a great experience!

Thought I was biking in the Mediterranean

Mike_V, Apr 2022
As long as you don’t focus on the architecture, you can imagine biking in the south of France (handy in times of covid). Bikes were well maintained. Ian was super professional and friendly. The wine and food at Gemtree was delicious. A great day of food, fitness and wine.

Good times

Rain, hail or sunshine

Rory_B, Jun 2021
We cycled in rain, hail and sun- and it was all fabulous fun. I highly recommend this experience, even if my credit card it a bit exhausted from wine orders.

Go for it!

Great day with stops at unique cellar doors and a chance to get a good insight into the ethos behind the wine. Delicious lunch and an opportunity to get to know other people on the tour. Cycling not too advanced but varied and interesting .. little bit off road little bit on road with mostly downhill stretches. Thanks to Ian our guide, Paul and Caron

Ian is running this family business as a Bike tour guide for one-day trips in McLaren Vale including everything I like: great views, sport, nature, good food, great wine and beer tasting opportunities, along with providing the right amount of information. Friendly, knowledgeable, kind, fun, Ian is one person who can create such great day. Done in a small group, this is pleasant and manageable, and the level of fitness required for the mountain bike ride is accessible to everyone - bike, gloves, mountain bikes provided. It was a great day, with the right amount of fun, friendliness, sport, nature, and tasting. High recommendation to discover the surroundings of Adelaide or simply enjoy a day of fun if you live in there.

I really enjoyed this tour. There are many wine tours but this one has a twist. If you are reasonably fit the mountain bike riding is great fun as it takes you through some woodland areas then onto roads and tracks which are mostly down hill with only one small up hill but this depends on which vineyards you visit. Better than being cooped up in a minibus.

This was a great day out. We enjoyed the riding which was just enough considering the warm weather. The 2 wineries chosen were excellent and we arrived home to find the wine we ordered waiting at our door. Great lunch, company and Ian was very flexible with fitting in with the needs and interests of the group. Highly recommend this tour.

What a great day! Collected from hotel by friendly, competent tour leader and driven into Hills via scenic route. Tested our quality bikes riding through the forest then onto McLaren Vale for sampling all the region has to offer. Lunch of shared platters was delicious too. There's no better way to visit this region!

The absolute best way to see the country and taste the wine. Ian, our tour guide, was lovely, friendly and very obliging for our needs. The small group was very friendly and we all shared experiences etc. over a lovely drop of local wine. I would definitely recommend this tour. This is an absolute must do!!! The countryside scenery can not be experienced on foot or in a van, it just can't. The lovely smell of the flowers, the wind in your hair and the smile on your face as you travel on the bikes is second-to-none. I would do this tour, again and again. Ian was our guide, he was professional, safe and fun to spend the day with!

Best way so far to see the sights of Adelaide and enjoy the McLaren Valley wine country. Saw lots of Kangaroos because we went to places the cars can't get too. Recommend to all ages and fitness. Ian and Deb look after you from the moment you step outside your hotel.
