Fantastic 3 hr tour with Yulia (sp?). She was very knowledgeable and led us through the museum, cathedral and the 450ish steps to the top of the Duomo for the most spectacular 360 views of Florence. Highly recommend the morning time slot. Bring a bottle of water and bring comfortable shoes. Once you're committed to climbing the stairs, you're committed. It's single file and one way!

Our tour guide Lorenzo was great and the Duomo tour is certainly a unique one with 483 steps to climb. Very fun and engaging, absolutely beautiful views of Florence and the cathedral. I continue to be impressed with these Viator tours despite being someone who usually doesn’t do tours while on vacation. Very happy and highly recommend.

Itinerary

Meet your guide at Florence’s Piazza della Repubblica. With your skip-the-line ticket in hand, make your way past the general entrance lines outside Florence Duomo, and head inside the famous place of worship.

Also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo is one of the world’s largest churches. Hear fun facts about its history as you admire Paolo Uccello’s clock and frescoes by Giorgio Vasari.

Next, you’ll head up the staircase, making your way through corridors that have been off-limits to the public for centuries. When you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with views over the city from the terraces—more than 100 feet (32 meters) above ground level. Hear how Brunelleschi created the dome without the use of scaffolding, a feat that defied the traditional rules of architecture.

If you want to climb even higher, then head up to the top of Brunelleschi’s Dome. Your skip-the-line ticket gives you access to the vantage point at the highest level of the church.

Your tour finishes inside the church, but you can stay inside for longer if you like. Your ticket also grants access to the Great Museum of the Cathedral, Florence Baptistery, the Great Museum of the Duomo, and Giotto’s Bell Tower. Attractions must be visited within 48 hours of your tour.

Rooftop is the only main reason of this tour

Anahit_M, Jul 2026
This was a good tour since we avoided the long lines, I would recommend this tour only if the intention is to climb 463 steps to the roof, otherwise the whole beauty of the cathedral is its outside and there is really nothing much to see inside. The answer to: would you recommend this to your friend is: only if that friend is able to climb the 500 steps in a very narrow space.

Don't Use Viator

David_D, Jul 2026
We had the exact same experience as multiple folks have noted when giving 1 star for this tour. We were given two completely different meeting points (but didn't know that!) four minutes walk apart from each other. One "meeting point" was given by Viator (which included the ability to click and map to the "meeting point"). We were given a completely separate meeting point as additional information, but nothing said to disregard the "meeting point" given on the Viator app so we had no idea we were supposed to use one address and not the other. We mapped to the "meeting point" given on Viator, we were early, we had two kids with us, we could not find the tour. Nobody reached out to contact us or find us. When we messaged the tour company, they told us Viator had given the wrong address for the meeting point. We assumed getting a refund would be easy since we were there on time and this wasn't our fault. If anything, we should get more than just our money back since it ruined our plans for the day and we never got to see the Duomo. Instead, we were denied a refund multiple times by Viator. We even called and spent time explaining over the phone what happened. Each time, they said "well, one of the addresses was the correct address so you had the info." So disappointed in Viator. Be careful when booking this tour or anything through Viator. They care more about their bottom line than their customers.

Do not skip this...

Keith_V, Jul 2026
Do not skip this experience! The view from the top of the dome is breath taking. Fair warning, parts of the climb along the balcony can be tough if you have any vertigo or fear of heights. But the end view is absolutely worth it! Our guide, Laura, did a wonderful job sharing all about the history and teaching us about Florence. She ensured everyone in the group was comfortable and prepared for the climb before we began. Do not skip this experience!

Worth the Early Alarm Clock

Dave_Q, Jun 2026
The early morning tour is great. Being there for the unlocking and getting to be inside before the crowds was great. The guide was knowledgeable and listened to any concerna.about the climb and was able to help address those for a success climb to the dome!

Great experience!

Cindie_P, Jun 2026
I really liked the way my guide gave us the history of all the different museums ands also recommended other things to see. She was great!

Time saving

Mike_W, Jun 2026
The skip the line was definitely worth it instead of waiting in the baking sun. Our Sandra was very descriptive in the entire tour.

Fraudsters!

Vivian_S, Jun 2026
Do not trust this experience. The local company are fraudsters. They changed the meeting location from what was listed on the Viator app and then blamed us for not meeting them on time after trying to chase them all around the city. And when I dared ask for a refund of the $700 I paid, they laughed. Viator was also no help at all. They said the local operator refused the refund and that was that. Save your money and dont get scammed!

Fiasco

William_F, Jun 2026
Every communication seemed to have a different address for meeting. Left us going around in circles. We had signed up for the church and dome tour at 1030. That wasn't till 1200. Tour guide seemed like she was constantly stalling ..... looking for something to say. We had to cut the tour short due to another commitment. Very disappointed!

Interesting tour!

Laura_R, Jun 2026
I had a good time! The tour included more than I realized: Duomo musuem, some information on the inside of the church, and the climb to the top. Because of this, you are not on top for that long - only about 15 minutes. However, 15-20 minutes seemed to be what most people got. The guide was fairly knowledgeable, but I wish she had shared more as to the history of the building, the meaning of the paintings on the ceiling, and had pointed out interesting buildings within view once at the top.

Best tour in Florence

Angela_H, Jun 2026
Wonderful guide, great pace. There were over 400 stairs in a tight circular pattern and a short ladder at the very top. Short ceilings for those who are tall. The view at the top is spectacular as is seeing the interior of the dome.

A Must-Do Florence Experience Brought to Life by an Exceptional Guide

Larry_I, Jun 2026
This tour was one of the highlights of my time in Florence. Our Italian guide was absolutely exceptional. Her depth of knowledge transformed what could have been a simple sightseeing experience into a fascinating journey through the history, art, architecture, and culture of Florence. She expertly explained the evolution of the Duomo’s façade, the symbolism and artistry inside the cathedral, and the incredible details of Vasari’s frescoes within the dome. What impressed me most was her ability to answer questions thoughtfully and provide historical context that went far beyond the typical tour script. By the time we reached the terraces and the top of the dome, she was identifying Florence’s most important landmarks and explaining their significance, helping us understand how the city developed over the centuries. Equally important, she genuinely cared about every guest in the group. This tour involves moving between multiple locations and climbing a significant number of stairs, yet she made sure everyone stayed together, felt comfortable, and had opportunities to ask questions throughout the experience. If you’re visiting Florence and want more than just a ticket to the Duomo, this tour is absolutely worth it. The skip-the-line access is valuable, but the real highlight is the guide’s passion, expertise, and ability to bring one of the world’s greatest architectural masterpieces to life. Highly recommended.

Great experience!

Nelly_J, Jun 2026
It was a great experience. The meeting point was easy. The guide was so nice, knowledgeable and informative. She was kind and helpful. Just be aware that the guide will be with you through the dome but if you buy the tickets with more access like the tower, the museum or the basement you will be on your own after the tour of the dome is done. Also remember to cover your knees and shoulders. If you are going to climb make sure you can physically do it. It is worth it but I saw some people struggle with small spaces and the climb.

If you are into art and history, this tour is perfect for you. The stairs to the top of the duomo are narrow and steep, but the view is worth it.

Very Disappointing Experience

Marina_M, Jun 2026
We were genuinely excited for the Duomo Terraces and Duomo Climb tour in Florence and were really looking forward to it, which makes this especially disappointing. Unfortunately, due to confusing meeting point instructions and what appears to have been an inaccurate Google Maps location, we were unable to find our group in time. We actively searched for them and even approached other tour guides, who kindly looked at our voucher and tried to help us locate the correct meeting point, directing us to the opposite side of the street — but by then it was too late. We’ve taken many guided tours over the years and have never experienced an issue like this before. What made it even more frustrating was the refusal to offer any accommodation afterward. Missing an experience we were genuinely excited about in Florence was incredibly disappointing. Unfortunately, Viator customer service also left much to be desired.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We are truly sorry to hear that you missed the tour and understand how disappointing this must have been, especially for an experience you were looking forward to. Please note that the meeting point is clearly indicated on the voucher, along with our phone number for immediate assistance should any difficulty arise in locating the group. Our team is always available to help guests reach the meeting point on time. We sincerely regret the frustration caused and appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Should you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards, Towns of Italy Team

Worth!!!

Elha_V, Jun 2026
Absolutely worth it!! Our guide, Sandra (if I remember correctly).was fantastic. The Duomo climb was great, about 468 steps but with stops in between, highly recommend it. You also have access to the museum afterwards, which was great.

Skipping the lines is the way to go! Very helpful having a guide alongside you explaining the meaning and importance of what you see inside the Duomo along with the rich history behind it all. Things you wouldn't know by just a self guided tour.

Beautiful tour!

Outstanding tour!! Enjoyed learning the history and walking the church. The climb was not too hard and beautiful view from the top!

Chris_R, May 2026
This is the last time that we will ever use Viator again. Over the years we’ve been had guides not show up delays. And poor Service. This was the final straw. Up until the last minute Viator kept texting us the meeting place so we could climb the stairs of the duomo in Florence and skip the line. All along they were texting us the wrong meeting place. We finally realized what was going on and ran to the meeting place which towns of Italy was waiting for us to go to the skip the line duomo Needless to say running through crowded streets did not get us there in time and we missed the whole experience. Thanks to town an Italy. They said they would refund the tour and sent a very nice apology. More than Viator did. So yes we were refunded but never again will we trust Vistour Chris reiblwith anything we’re doing anywhere. I’ll also spread the word. I

Response from Host, May 2026

Dear Guest, We decided to issue a full refund as the guest unfortunately missed the tour due to an incorrect meeting point being provided through Viator. The information received by the customer indicated Piazza della Repubblica as the meeting location, which did not correspond to the actual departure point of the tour. Given that this issue arose from inaccurate information supplied on the booking platform and was therefore beyond the guest’s control, we felt that a full refund was the fairest and most appropriate solution. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding. Kindest regards, Francesco from Towns of Italy.

Breathtaking!

Regina_H, May 2026
Absolutely breathtaking! The climb was strenuous, but the view from the terraces were worth the effort. Exceptional tour. Highly recommend.
