Glasgow - what a beautiful city full of sites to see & lots of history.
I was a single & joined by another couple off our cruise ship. Our guide was Stuart. We were picked up in a nice van right at the docking terminal & driven into Glasgow as he explained sights along the way & gave us some history as well. He took us to the People's Palace (closed for refurbishment) & the beautiful & largest terra cotta fountain in the world celebrating Queen Victoria's 1887 Jubilee called Doulton Fountain. We drove on to Glasgow Cathedral - it's the oldest bldg in Glasgow & most ancient cathedral in mainland Scotland. There was much to explore within the church & we got a church guide to take us around - so interesting! We also wandered around the Glasgow Necropolis (cemetery) located on the hill behind the church. Many important & well to do people were buried there & some tombstones were quite big & elaborate. If these stops weren't enough - Stuart took us on to the Glasgow Museum - Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum which is a must see! Most notable exhibit is the display of Salvador Dali's Christ of St John of The Cross, work by Vincent VanGogh, Claude Monet. So many exhibits & galleries to explore. Stuart met up with us & drove us back to the port terminal. Stuart was professional, friendly, open to taking us where we wanted to go, but knew the special places of Glasgow to take us to. This type of personal tour is way better than a wussy excursion offered by the ship.
