What To Expect
The renowned performers of Musica a Palazzo carry on the historic tradition of traveling opera with unique, intimate performances in the luxurious surroundings of Venice’s Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto. The elegant salons of this 15th-century palace have been restored to their original splendor and provide a historic backdrop for scenes from Italian operatic classics. Choose from adapted versions of "The Barber of Seville," "La Traviata," or "Rigoletto".
On the date of the performance, make your way to the historic palazzo in central Venice, which overlooks the Grand Canal. Upon arrival, you have the option to purchase a libretto to read a translation of the words in your selected opera. Then, take your seat among the small audience and admire the ornate surroundings and period furnishings bathed in candlelight. When the show begins, you are immersed in the sights and sounds of arias, duets, and live accompaniment as the performers enact scenes near you.
Instead of a traditional set change, get up and move to a different salon along with the ensemble with each new scene or act. This lends an interactive element to the show and allows you to explore several different salons. Toast your evening out with a glass of prosecco, juice, or soda during an intermission.

Hands down, one of the best performances I have ever been to. The show out preformed my expectations.

Opera in a villa! The performers standing next to you, interacting with the audience, in a historic villa setting. It doesn't get better! NOTE: do follow the written directions on your tickets; some mapping apps get you close, but the performance entrance can be a challenge without the directions.

Absolutely amazing. Such an immersive experience. The performers were very talented. I highly recommend.

It was definitely a different experience for me to go from room to room, watching an opera. The singers were very good and there was some interaction with the audience. During the intermission, champagne was served and we could take a peak at the beautiful outside view from the balcony.
Some people have left reviews that mention the lack of comfort, and I agree with that. The chairs were uncomfortable and some seats don’t allow you to have a good view of the artists.

It was magical! We had never been to an opera before and to have our first experience be in such a small, gorgeous venue where you could be so close to the performers and hear the beautiful voices and music was an unbelievable experience. I will say, the theater is a bit hard to
find even with Google Maps but the locals were so nice to assist us, Highly recommend!

Way better than an opera house, you are really close to the singers, and they are very good, the venue is perfect

If you are a fan of Opera, or musicals, you will love this performance. We saw The Barber of Seville and the performers captured all the fun and madcap energy of Opera Buffa. The setting, with only 60 or so in the audience, was intimate, the staging was charming, moving from room to room in a historic Palazzo, and the performers were first rate. I highly recommend!

Our tour was wonderful. We got to skip the lines and our guide Federico was very knowledgeable and personable. He really explained to us the historical significance and stories behind the sites.

An emotional, beautiful evening in a stunning setting. We loved the intimacy of it so much! The music by both the musicians and performers were outstanding. This is a must if you appreciate classical music!

Not easy to find - but a great evening. Surprising, touching, full drama on small stage, great voices

Absolutely fantastic performances by the actors and musicians in an old palazzo. Moving from room to room made it really fun.

It was excellent. My first opera, and what a treat to see it so up close. Beautiful location, and talented performers.

This is a great introduction to Opera. My nephew loved it. The performance was awesome. The location is very easy to get to. Use the vaporetto and is real quick walk from it.
Quick helpful hint for folks, seating is free for all, so earlier the better, and then between acts to the next room be one of first if want best seats. Regardless it amazing!

We saw the Barber of Seville performance. The musicians and performers were amazing! The unique Palazzo venue was charming and dramatic.

Several people recommended an entertainment in Venice called “Musica a Palazzo,” a chamber opera staged inside a 15th-century palazzo. The concept alone sounded irresistible, and I was genuinely excited to go. I certainly don’t regret attending — Venice has a way of making even mediocre evenings memorable.
However, last night’s La Traviata, in my rather critical yet not at all professional opinion, hovered somewhere around a C+, occasionally drifting into what felt suspiciously like an overzealous street performance, albeit indoors and with chandeliers.
Perhaps my expectations were the real problem. I had imagined an evening of refined intimacy — subtle acting, emotional restraint, and the kind of delicate nuance that chamber opera promises. Instead, the performers seemed determined to ensure that no emotion went unannounced, unamplified, or — heaven forbid — understated.
From a distance of only a few feet, the theatricality became rather… transparent. One begins to notice things. Gestures grow grander, sighs deeper, passions louder. At one point I nearly leaned forward and whispered, “Darling, your fake mustache has come off.”
In short, while the setting is undeniably charming and the concept appealing, the performance lacked the intimacy and emotional subtlety one hopes for in chamber opera. As it so often happens in Venice — and in life — expectations can occasionally exceed reality.

Took my mum to this and it was a highlight of our trip; beautiful setting, talented performers, a unique experience perfect for Venice. Venue entrance is hard to find, follow the given intructions and maybe scope it out beforehand. Arrive on time to secure better seats.

This was better than I had expected. I watched the performance of the Barber of Seville. The orchestra was fantastic and the actors were funny and sounded like honey to my ears. There were very accommodating.
Roger_P, Feb 2026
An extraordinary hidden gem of an evening, in a remarkable setting. With such a small audience it was an intimate and unique experience. The singers were wonderful.
Katie_C, Feb 2026
What a great way to experience opera. Traveling from room to room for each act made the performance fly by and the performers were too-notch. So much fun.
Lois_K, Feb 2026
We saw La Traviata. It was an outstanding concert and experience. The singers were superb, and it’s rare to be seated in such close proximity to the action. The building was lovely and it’s a brilliant idea to move between rooms for the three scenes.

If you love music and unique experiences, this is for you. Opera sung in an old palace in an intimate setting was magical.

It’s a real opera in an intimate space. The theater is gorgeous and the musicians are great. A memorable experience in Venice.

Attending this opera was one of the highlights of our three-week vacation in Europe. The setting, the music were extraordinary - a not to be missed experience!
Echo_F, Nov 2025
This was a beautiful experience in an intimate setting. The vocalists were of the highest quality. You should know these are private showings allowed for members only, so when you arrive you have to fill out your personal information on a card to become a member. They won't let you watch the performance if you don't fill out the card and sign it.

This experience was one of a kind, you felt as if you were part of the play. I love the fact
that you went into different rooms.

If you are a fan of Opera this is a must do while you are in Venice!!! My wife and I were simply AMAZED by this performance. I've never seen anything like this up close and personal. Depending where you are seated, you might literally be a couple feet away from the singers. We almost felt like we were a part of the show. No pictures for video are allowed during the performance which we truly wished we could have taken. But because the setting is so intimate and because everyone is literally right in the show itself, we can see why they don't want any type of photography during the show. It would get a bit distracting as you will want to photograph or videograph the entire show. That's how amazing it is. The acoustics in the room is something you just have to experience for yourself.
If there was one bad thing to say...it was hard to find. But that might be true for anywhere in Venice if you are not familiar with the area. This was our first time there so navigating getting in and around Venice in general was a bit challenging. So I can't say this was specific to this event. Maybe more our fault (not knowing the area) than anything else. But give yourself ample time to get yourself in the general vicinity and then start asking the locals for help (which is what we did). Subsequently, we were the first to arrive.

This was an amazing performance! Would see it again. My husband wept during the 2nd act. The musician’s and singer’s were outstanding. Also very organized and the ladies and gentleman at the front were kind.

All I had hoped it would be! Totally immersive cultural experience. Fabulous performers and a majestic venue. Bravo!
