There are plenty of high-quality tours and experiences in Montepulciano. According to previous travelers, here are the best tours to book right now:
Yes, guided tours in Montepulciano are definitely worth it. You'll learn much more about the area's world-renowned wines and cuisine during expert-led wine tastings and cooking classes than you could on your own. Meanwhile, e-bike tours, winery visits, and horseback riding experiences provide access to Tuscany's postcard-perfect rolling hills and vineyards—even if you don't have a car.
Per one customer who booked the Wine Tour Ebike Experience, "Loved this so much! Favorite activity of the trip. Loved that it was self paced and self guided. Everyone at the bike shop was so helpful in getting us set up for our adventurous day. The winery reservations were made for us, so it was easy to make our wine stops along the route. Views while biking were unbeatable! Can't wait to go back and do it again!"
Generally, the most affordable Montepulciano tours are group wine tastings, which start at US$30 for brief experiences under two hours. Longer wine-tasting excursions, such as e-bike tours that include lunch at a countryside vineyard, go for upwards of US$150. Cooking classes start at US$130.
A well-rated tour on the lower end of the price range is the Tasting Tour in One of The Most Beautiful Cellars in the World. For US$39, you'll explore a local cellar and taste six wines paired with snacks, but the experience only lasts for one hour and takes place in the center of Montepulciano, not in the countryside. The Wine Tour Ebike Experience is more expensive at US$190, but it is private and allows you to cycle through the rolling hills of Tuscany and visit two vineyards at your own pace, with wine tastings included.
Most Montepulciano tours showcase the region's remarkable red wine and Tuscan cuisine. That means you can cook fresh pasta in a local's home, go e-biking or horseback riding past picturesque vineyards, or enjoy a sommelier-led wine tasting in a historic cellar.
Consider an all-day or multi-day tour to pack in as many sights and activities as possible. For example, the Best of Tuscany: Full Day Private Tour to Val D'Orcia takes you to taste wines in Montepulciano, see Renaissance architecture in Pienza, drive through the scenic hills of the Val d'Orcia, and wander the medieval lanes of Montalcino.
Many travelers visit Montepulciano on a full-day wine-tasting tour from Florence or Siena—ideal if you want to spend a few hours strolling through the medieval hill town and tasting wines at a couple of vineyards. For a more leisurely trip to Tuscany, stay in Montepulciano for two nights, which should be ample time to take a cooking class, tour a few wineries, and make an excursion to nearby towns such as Montalcino and Pienza.
