1 Day in Tenerife for First Timers
Tenerife’s diverse landscapes and cultural offerings have always called to me. From the north’s black-sand beaches, colorful villages, and lush greenery to the south’s rocky cliffs and sprawling golden sands, I could spend forever exploring the island. I love that there are so many different types of activities to do—whale watching, wine tasting, hiking, and beyond.
But if you have just one day in Tenerife, plan to get moving early, as you’ll have a lot of ground to cover. The distances can be far, so renting a car or organizing tours that include transportation is your best bet. Here’s what you should do if it’s your first time in Tenerife and you have 24 hours to explore.
If you only have time for one thing, make it Mt. Teide, the highest peak in Spain.
It’s warm and sunny year-round in Tenerife, but it can get windy, so pack layers.
Start in the southern area of Tenerife, which is ideal for thrill seekers and those looking for relaxation. There are plenty of beaches to explore, from the breezy and calm Costa del Silencio to the tourist resorts around Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. The area around the Los Gigantes cliffs is beautiful for a walk or hike. Adventure enthusiasts can book snorkel tours, quad rentals, or paragliding trips. If you paraglide, try to spot the nearby island of La Gomera.
