Itineraries for Your Trip to Cancun
2 Days in Cancun for First Timers
Cancun is one of my top places to visit in Mexico as there's so much to do in the Riviera Maya and the Yucatan, from visiting archaeological sites, such as Chichen Itza, to snorkeling in the Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA). When I have two days in Cancun, I like to do a bit of everything, and I'll definitely eat my fill of tasty tacos throughout town.
We've got your vacation planned with this 2-day Cancun itinerary for first timers, from sailing cruises to cuisine. Here's how you should plan out your visit to this part of Quintana Roo.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a snorkeling excursion.
You'll find hot and muggy weather year-round in Cancun, with a chance of showers.
On your first morning, explore Cancun with a guided sightseeing tour of the region or a boat cruise on the water. There are plenty of options for water activities, from private catamarans to mini speedboat excursions that will take you to the best spots for snorkeling, such as Nichupte Lagoon.
After an active morning you'll find Cancun has plenty of options for lunch, from sit-down restaurants with a view of the Caribbean Sea to taco carts serving up the best carne asada street tacos. A food tour is an excellent way to learn about the area's food culture and try a few specialties.
Cancun has a vibrant nightlife scene, letting you dance until the wee hours of the morning at CoCo Bongo Cancun and other local hot spots if you wish. VIP tickets let you skip the line in order to maximize your time inside. Plus, most options include drinks at the open bar.
Ready for a day of adventure? If you want a break from the beaches, there are plenty of other outdoor activities to do in and around Cancun, from ziplining to all-terrain vehicle (ATV) rides through the jungle. Booking an excursion in the morning means you'll catch the coolest part of the day.
When you're ready to head to the beach this afternoon, there are plenty of options along the Cancun Hotel Zone (Avenida Kukulkan) and beyond. If you want a bit more action than just a day on a lounge chair, you'll find water sports on offer, from Jet Ski rentals to parasailing tours.
Cancun's sunsets can be quite stunning, and the best way to enjoy them is on a sunset cruise. For families, there are kid-friendly sailings on pirate ships, such as Captain Hook Cancun, which include dinner and a show. Party boats and romantic sailings are also available if you're looking for more of an adult vibe, many taking you past the lovely island of Isla Mujeres.
