A day trip to Lake Kivu provides a relaxing and enjoyable experience of a Rwandan must-visit destination. The trip, starting in Kigali, can take you to either Rubavu (formerly Gisenyi) or Karongi (formerly Kibuye), both on the shores of the lake. It takes a 3.5-4 hour drive from Kigali by road and is a fantastic and pleasant way to spend some time relaxing on the water as you enjoy a little peace and quiet. The real joy of driving in this area, is that every corner produces another scenic view of the countryside. Eucalyptus trees line the road setile every inch of the hills seems to be terraced with bananas. Villagers smile, and wave. Boating on the lake offers very beautiful scenery, calm, and peaceful. During your day trip to Lake Kivu from Kigali, you either visit Rubavu district or Karongi district, The district lies on the shores of Lake Kivu.

Located about a 2–3 hour drive from Kigali, it offers activities such as game drives, boat safaris, and birdwatching, making it a popular destination for visitors seeking a classic African safari experience.

At Uwinka Visitor Centre, the start point for the canopy activity, you will go through registration formalities for the canopy walk and a park guide will assigned. The park guide will provide a guided descent to the canopy itself along with other visitors who have registered for the same schedule, passing through nature walk trails in the forest. Remember mud-resistant hiking shoes, rain coat and pants, wooden hiking sticks are provided. The descent takes an estimated 45 minutes subject to the physical fitness of participants. Reaching the canopy, the guide will brief the guests on how to walk on the canopy, 200 metres long and hanging 60 metres from the forest floor with the top view of the forest nature. At the canopy, you take your time to appreciate the nature, take pictures and videos. The duration is subject to guest satisfaction, with the guidance of the guide. Once done, guests will hike back to the start point at Uwinka Visitor Centre where the activity ends.

Nyungwe Forest National Park offers a unique zipline and canopy walkway experience, allowing visitors to explore the forest from above. Nyungwe is located in the southwest, covering an area of 1016 km across the majestic hills of southeast Rwanda, Nyungwe National Park is the largest mountainous rain forest in central and east Africa and one of the most ancient, dating back to before the Ice Age. The forest supports over 1025 plant species and over 500 species of orchid and giant lobelia. Nyungwe also has 13 species of primates; these include chimpanzees and the Black and White Angolan colobus monkeys.
