A two-and-a-half-hour walk on a private reserve with a privileged location adjacent to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Located in the Arenal-Tempisque conservation area in the heart of Monteverde. It protects 83 hectares (205 acres) of 50% virgin forest, 45% secondary growth, and 5% open pasture. The altitude ranges from 1450 to 1615 meters with 40% Lower montane wet forest and 60% Premontane wet forest. Seven kilometers of natural trails allow visitors to explore the flora and fauna of the tropical cloud forest. This reserve is a birdwatcher’s paradise. The Resplendent Quetzal, Three-Wattled Bellbird, Blue-Crowned Motmot, Orange-bellied Trogon, and many others are frequently seen. Indeed, over 200 species of birds have been observed making their home in this piece of heaven. Frequently sighted mammals include armadillo, coati, agouti, kinkajou, ocelot, two-toed sloth, and three species of monkey: mantled howler, white-faced capuchin, and spider monkey.

Knowledgeable guide made the experience extra good

Fascinating variety of birds, animals and insects. Our guide, Roy, was very knowledgeable about all the different species. The rainforest canopy is dense so it’s very difficult to see many creatures without a good guide. The hummingbird garden and seeing 3 Spider Monkeys was a big bonus.

"Right place right time" Johnny was a great guide! We saw over 30 different birds!!

Johnny was a very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and Friendly guide. He is great at what he does! We saw over 30 birds including the Bell bird and a keel billed toucan actively at the nest. We also saw a couple of Agouti, 2 pigs and a few Coati and went home with many videos and pictures that he took thru the scope!

We had an Excellent experience exploring Curi Cancha reserve with our guide Mauricio. We saw many interesting birds that we would have definitely missed without his help. We also learned a lot about the area and its natural history. Going with a guide is definitely worth it and Mauricio was great.
