What a day! The best of the wall, a village meal and the water Town! Everything included and time can be customized. Lots of history and lots of fun!

Great tour and guide (Jimmy)
Great tour. Well worth the extra travel to get away from the crowds. Tour guide Jimmy was very knowledgeable on all things China not just tour specific.

Sunset Heaven
The sunset walk on the Great Wall was nothing short of amazing. The return walk through Water Town was an unbelievable experience. My wife and I truly enjoyed the day. Milo our guide spoke excellent English and had years of experience. He went above and beyond to ensure we learned and enjoyed our time.

Driver arrived on time in a new vehicle to take us smoothly and safely to Gubei. Town was amazing and worth seeing. The Great Wall when lit up at night was a special sight and well

Good day trip and guide
Great day trip from Beijing to cover the Simatai Great Wall and Gubei Water Town, and the driver Peter Wu was very helpful and accommodating. One thing to note (which wasn't clear at the time I booked) is that entry fees aren't included in the price, so budget an additional CNY 300 per person

Safe driver, great day :D
Our driver, Zhen Lihui, arrived early to our hotel and picked us up as soon as we were done. He also took care of buying the tickets as described on Viator. He was a safe and friendly driver, messaging the day before and all throughout the tour day. He drove my family in a large air conditioned van. Could not ask for anything more from a driver.
We really enjoyed being able to walk around at our own pace without a guide. There are many restaurant options, but don't plan on souvenir shopping. We also recommend purchasing the additional ticket in person to ride the boat back after The Wall. Bring your hat and walking shoes.

Greatest Great Wall Watertown
Amazing little trip! Our driver Ryan was safe, speedy, and polite. He gave us good travel advice and some excellent suggestions for eating dinner after the trip.
Gubei Wtown, as they call themselves in English, was absolutely delightful. As a resort styled after an ancient town, it was both convenient, charming, and peppered with cats and cat drawings. Included in that is a giant balloon of a drunken cat that fell asleep on a wall, pretty funny!
The Simatai Great Wall area was just awesome, in the most literal sense of the word. The cable car ride up is a great view, and once you reach the wall you feel like you’re at the top of the Earth. The sense of windswept peace and heavy history is a mood one must experience to appreciate.
Overall, fantastic, strong 5/5.

We had an amazing time...
We had an amazing time both in the town and at the great wall. Our driver was polite and friendly. When we arrived, we spent about 2 hours in the town because there is so much to see. Lots of shops restaurants and it is scenic and beautiful. We loved the great wall. But you only need 1 hour or so up there. That means there is ample time to explore the town (you must!). You can also take the cable car which was a gorgeous ride up the mountain. We took a boat ride to get to the cable car. Everything is self explanatory and easy.

If you are traveling...
If you are traveling solo, I highly recommend doing a private tour with David of possible. He is very friendly and attentive. He also good at reading the room and will let you rest/have quiet time.
Bring cash - at least 130 yen for the boat tour and shuttle bus to get through the city.
My tour was in late March and at night so it was pretty chilly. The hike up to the wall will warm you up but you will definitely need a jacket for the boat ride through the water town. I wore a beanie and didn't regret it.

When to visit

Photographers and Instagrammers who won’t be visiting Shanghai or Suzhou may appreciate Gubei Water Town.
If staying overnight, check your hotel’s location carefully. Some are a bus ride away from the scenic area.
A few vendors will only take Chinese mobile payment systems (WeChat or AliPay), but you can load cash onto a card and use that instead.
Cobbles, steps, and arched bridges make Gubei Water Town challenging for travelers who use wheelchairs.
