Set out with no more than five others on a full-day hiking tour to the base of Paine Towers, the iconic granite rock centerpiece of Torres del Paine National Park. Get an early start from Puerto Natales for this somewhat difficult 12-mile (19-km) hike through a valley, crossing streams and traversing woodlands before climbing a moraine to the towers. An experienced guide accompanies you on the round-trip trek, which includes a rewarding boxed lunch at the towers’ base.

The Base las Torres trek begins by zigzagging through the Asencio Valley (around 90 minutes). Our efforts will be rewarded with a pristine view of Lake Nordenjköld. Afterwards we will walk under the former glaciers of a snow covered mountain, Monte Almirante Nieto, reaching a height of 2670 m above sea level. The guide will make sure to take breaks. The path eventually slopes down, but can go up and down as much as 200 feet because it winds around the mountain along with the rushing river below. After a couple of hours of trekking we will enjoy a well-deserved rest at the Chilean refuge. It is recommended to buy the entrance to Torres del Paine Park before leaving for the tour.

We will trek for approximately 1 hour through a canyon of impressive beauty, which owes its name to the Puritama River, a river with temperate waters, where we can enjoy a swim in the middle of this canyon in natural pools among local vegetation.
