What are people saying about Bay of Islands

Although it is a long day...
Although it is a long day as there are many KMs to cover, this trip shows a lovely outlook of the NZ landscape with its beautiful rolling green hills with and without native bush, and the beautiful sea views of NZ's many beautiful beaches mostly accompanied with our beautiful pohutakawa tree. This is what makes NZ so unique compared to the rest of the world with the time to chill out and take in the big space. However, Cape Reinga has its own special place, not only being the most northern point in NZ but it is a very spiritual place and there is a sense of calmness here when you visit it. You also see the Tasman sea and Pacific Ocean meat at a triangular point. - It is a very special place. Other entertaining things are the sandunes, driving on the sand along 90 mile beach, finding and eating Tuatua (pipi) and having a laugh. Our driver Willie, was amazing. He entertained us pretty much for the entire day with history of area and jokes and singing. We also learnt a couple of maori songs. A great day

Great Day Out, Great Crew - A Must Do!!
We booked this 3 hour tour but not enough people so we were upgraded to the 4.5 hour tour. Fabulous day out on the water with Island Getway Cruises today. Thanks to our skipper Hamish, Blair and Bluebell who provided a very professional and enjoyable experience. Fun day and they provided very good local knowledge along the way.
We may have had one of the better days with smooth sea 🌊 and sunshine 🌞 we were able to experience the bird life, fish and seals along the way and went through the “hole in the rock” Motu Kokako and out to view face of Te Toka Tu Mona and then see the “woolly mammoth” in the island formation. I am sure this is regularly seen but great to experience on our cruise.
Would like to thank the whole team for the day.

Enjoyable in spite of awful weather.
Inspite of really poor weather we really enjoyed the trip. Experienced and knowledgeable skipper meant that even though the sea was rough we were able to reach the hole in the rock even if we could not go through.
Sadly no marine life was seen that day but we enjoyed a nice lunch and walk on the island before heading back to Russell

A Must Visit Experience, even on a wet windy day.
This is so much more than a visit to an outdoor space where the treaty was signed. It offers an insight into the history and culture of New Zealand by way of a guided tour and cultural performance which gave us an understanding of what led to the treaty and how it was perceived at the time. Our tour guide was amazing, the enthusiasm and knowledge she shared with us for the history of the Treaty made it so interesting. It was a really wet, windy day so we did not spend too long outside but there were plenty of indoor areas and a museum to explore. This visit went beyond my expectations and in my opinion is a must do activity.

Hoke in the rock tour
We boarded the boat in Russell. We were the last people to board as most people boarded in Paihia. We sat below which I normally don’t like because I get a bit seasick. The windows were all open though and I could get up and walk around so it was fine. I actually felt less seasick then when I went up top!
The captain was very informative and we learned a lot. The staff, Audrey and Bluebell were so nice!!
We enjoyed the hike up on one of the islands, beautiful views!
The island where we spent an hour was nice bit if you want to eat lunch and snorkel if wasn’t long enough. Personally I would skip the snorkeling and take a short walk.
I would definitely recommend this tour!

Glow Worm & Hike
Our van driver was full of information and stories about the local area. It was nice to be in a small group and the trip was a good value. We especially enjoyed the forest walk and the beautiful drive up to the hike entrance. The glow worm cave was a very unique experience.

A great overview.
Very well done and very organized. It was a breeze to connect at the wharf and our driver Dyson was very knowledgeable about all the things. Beautiful visit to Kauri forest, then waterfalls, then a little side trip for chocolate factory and a wood workshop with some lovely pieces. Finale was glow worm caves which were interesting. Then back to the wharf with plenty of time to make the tender! A good day was had by all!

Must do sailing trip!!!
One of the highlights of our trip to NZ! Even though several passengers on the trip cancelled last minute, Brad and Monique still took just a small group of 4 out! We had the whole boat to ourselves. Beautiful day exploring the Bay of Islands with a delicious lunch! Definitely beats the excursion from the cruise line!

Great cruise and swimming
Take your swimming things! Really enjoyable half day out on the water. We really enjoyed the cruise and the commentary - and were very lucky enough to have a pod of dolphins cross our route. The lunch stop was great, had a lovely dip. We took our own picnic but the kind that could’ve preordered looked really nice too

We had a lovely trip out...
We had a lovely trip out to see the Bay of Islands and the Hole in the Rock. We were lucky enough that the conditions were suitable for the boat to go through the hole in the rock, which was a highlight. Would recommend when stopping at the Island to walk up to the view point to see excellent views.

A must do activity if you’re a thrill seeker
This was one of our top 5 favorite activities during our 3 week trip to New Zealand. Definitely for the thrill seekers. Loved the music and we even got lucky with a dolphin pod who followed us! Really fun and with it! When looking at all the other boats around I kept thinking we were on the best boat for a thrilling sightseeing adventure

Top notch service
On time pick-up at the cruise docking with a wonderful and hospitable guide driver ?William to drop-off. Gave a great drive with history of Maori culture and even invited us to come stay with him to get a true immersive experience. The team at the cave site were also great. There was a short stint through the bush as an alternative exit from the cave that added a challenge for "moderate level" adventurers. Then off to the waterfall for a picturesque and relaxing taste of nature's beauty. Wish I more time than the short cruise docking to explore more!
