Absolutely awesome day out, even in Winter! This is a big day but worth it. We had Barry as our tour guide. We travel a lot and have done hundreds of tours around the world so I don't say this lightly ... but Barry is the best tour guide we have ever come across. He was informative, amusing and kept the day interesting. Our teen kids loved sandboarding and Cape Reinga itself was an incredibly special place that we feel honoured to have visited. We had the fish and chips option for lunch and that was delicious as well. Highly recommend this tour, five stars all round.

Although it is a long day as there are many KMs to cover, this trip shows a lovely outlook of the NZ landscape with its beautiful rolling green hills with and without native bush, and the beautiful sea views of NZ's many beautiful beaches mostly accompanied with our beautiful pohutakawa tree. This is what makes NZ so unique compared to the rest of the world with the time to chill out and take in the big space. However, Cape Reinga has its own special place, not only being the most northern point in NZ but it is a very spiritual place and there is a sense of calmness here when you visit it. You also see the Tasman sea and Pacific Ocean meat at a triangular point. - It is a very special place. Other entertaining things are the sandunes, driving on the sand along 90 mile beach, finding and eating Tuatua (pipi) and having a laugh. Our driver Willie, was amazing. He entertained us pretty much for the entire day with history of area and jokes and singing. We also learnt a couple of maori songs. A great day

    Experience not to miss

Great driver & commentary by experienced local! Great scenery, lots of interesting facts! Tasty healthy lunch supplied

    Far North tour

The bus driver was excellent and very informative. Even though the weather was inclement we had a great day. The lunch was great. Unfortunately other travellers need to be aware of pickup times and ensure they are ready ontime. Myself and my husband were left standing at our pickup point for 40 minutes in the rain. Well worth doing

    A great day out

    Sarah_M, Mar 2026
George our driver was brilliant. The day was long but very informative and fun. I would check if the tour is suitable if your mobility is limited. There were however people of all ages and mobility on the tour who enjoyed themselves. We certainly did

It was a nice experience. George ist a gcod driver and tells you a lot about the history. Bring water, because you get only a bottle for lunch. The first stop was not like we expected. Normaly on Tours like this you get tea or coffee, but on this tour there was nothing, only the possibility to buy it.

Go where the Tasman meets the Pacific

    Fran_H, Mar 2026
The far north 90 Mile Beach tour is a full day trip by bus, which takes in beautiful sights. The driver/tour guide conveys much cultural history of the Maori people and significance of the sacred traditions and the impact of white settlers to the region. Reaching the top end where the Tasman and Pacific meet is something special and learning of the deep bond that place has with the Maori people was special. The trip along 90 Mile Beach with a fun stop was great. Lunch & morning tea provided ... be ready for a 10 hr tour! Highly recommended.

Long day but the views and experiences were worth it

    Stephen_L, Mar 2026
The views at Cape Reinga were amazing! Where the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean meet is beautiful and spritual. The hike down to the lighthouse was very nice. We were able to do some sand surfing on 90 mile beach. George also drove the bus down 90 mile beach which was a unique experience! George told us a lot of history and stories but we wish there had been a little more commentary on the way back.

    Amazing Trip

    Alan_P, Feb 2026
Really enjoyable trip with a good variety of activities included. George our driver and tour guide was really amazing, providing narrative and history of NZ along the way. Really helpful and engaging. The only negative was the 4x4 off road vehicle - use of this should most certainly be restricted to 90 mile beach. It was not comfortable on the public roads.

The tour was just what we expected, but the weather was something else! The driver / tour Gide, Tanya, was excellent, informative, funny and very personable. She did her absolute best but the weather was against us, couldn’t see more than a few feet at cape Rianga, an experience in its self. Nice stop at the kauri wood workshop, everyone we met were brilliant, just a same the views weren’t there!

A long day but very informative and well worth it. Our driver, Barry, was excellent throughout and his knowledge and good humour made the day so enjoyable.

Perfect way to travel up to see the top end of NZ

    Alayne_M, Jan 2026
Fantastic trip, lots to see, stunning scenery excellent transport, great tour guide. 90 Mike beach sand dune riding was heaps of fun!!

Great way to see remote location.

    Lisa_H, Jan 2026
Our guide, Tania, was very knowledgeable and had lots of amusing stories about the region. The bus goes right up on the beach. It was a real pleasure to be able to move between sites without having to drive ourselves and risk getting stuck in the sand or on bad roads, especially with local flooding that happened during our trip. Had 4 teens in family with me, and they all enjoyed the tour. It's hard to please everyone, so I would call that a win.

Great trip to the Far North to see the 90 mile beach and Cape Reyanga. It's a long day and a lot of driving and I'm grateful we had a great guide in Willy who manages the logistics of the day very well and is also very entertaining to keep things interesting.

    Canadian family

    Penny_W, Jan 2026
We all enjoyed it very much but felt it was probably 2 hours too long! The 4 wheeler used for the 90 Mile beach part was very uncomfortable & we all had sore backs afterwards. Lunch was pretty skimpy but Willy was great. Access to the busses not good for anyone with walking problems.

    Great excursion

    Elisabeth_h, Jan 2026
Bring drinking water. Thank you, good service, enjoyed hearing about Maori history. Sand surfing was fun.

    Great day out

    David_M, Jan 2026
Great day out. Definitely better than driving yourself! 90 mile beach and boarding down the sand dunes was a highlight. Lighthouse excellent too.

    North of the North Island

Best way to get to see 90 mile beach and the Lighthouse at the end of North Island! Great to have a driver, long day.

    Excellent excursion.

    Elizabeth_T, Dec 2025
The driver/ guide was extremely knowledgeable and made the journey very interesting and enjoyable. Stunning scenery made for a perfect day.

Great Tour, great driver (George). He gave us real insights into the area, the Maori people and culture and modern history of the North.

    Cape reinga tour

    Barry_C, Dec 2025
Barry the bus driver and tour guide was excellent He knowledge of the north and its inhabitants was 1st rate

Tasman and Pacific line is amazing!

    Paula_H, Nov 2025
We loved the tour. You should know that the office doesn't open until 7 so don't go 15 minutes early! The bus didn't leave until 7:15 and then picked up all the hotel stops so you don't really leave until 7:30. It is a long drive but it was lovely.

We felt it was too long a day, 10 hours with not many stops. Our driver was very rude to people. We were one of first people waiting for the tour and last to be boarded. We ended up with bad seats and driver would not let us change.

A great day out with a great guide.

    Chris_G, Nov 2025
A great tour with a very entertaining guide. He taught us about the different types of cows they have in NZ and the history of the forestry industry (which he detests) It was quite a long journey from Paihia but there were toilet stops along the way. We were lucky with the weather and 90 mile beach and Cape Reinga were absolutely stunning with great views all around.

    Perfect day, perfect guide

    Kyle_R, Oct 2025
Phenomenal experience. The scenery and journey was beyond our expectations. Barry (our tour guide) was the highlight - his expert knowledge and humorous commentary made for a fully entertaining 400+ km journey, and myself and my partner would like to personally thank him for his kindness to our "team" that day! It was touch and go whether the tides would allow for us to travel on 90-mile beach by bus, but Barry made sure we got there with plenty of time (even for some sandboarding!) Lunch was provided and was delicious; I am coeliac and they accommodated a gluten-free lunch just for me which was great! Overall, would recommend to anyone who wants to learn about Māori heritage, see beautiful scenery and enjoy the company of Barry and our other adventurers.

    Reinga Experience

    David_J, Oct 2025
A full but fantastic day with excellent commentary and stories by the driver/guide. Picnic lunch location by the beach was splendid.

    Great trip

    Carl_M, Oct 2025
It is quite a long day, but the driver (George) was extremely knowledgeable & kept us entertained the entire way, with stories & Maori songs. I especially enjoyed the sand surfing & a hot cup of soup was a welcome surprise on our lunch stop

Best way to see where the oceans meet

    Brian_P, Sep 2025
Our driver/guide George was excellent with a combination of information about our route and attractions together with Māori lore, songs and wisdom. The lunch (chicken wrap, brownie and apple) was perfect for the event. Stops were well managed - the cafe/museum shop at Avouni was excellent. We did not do the sand boarding but those who did seemed enthused.

    The amazing far north

    Stephen_S, Sep 2025
Absolutely amazing start to finish. Tour guide Barry was very entertaining. Kids got to do a little sand boarding and collect some shells on the beach. Lunch was delicious. Great to learn some history and interesting facts about the farm north

Great except for one small bus issue

    GEETHA_N, Sep 2025
All went well driver was excellent. There was one hiccup the bus had a wheel alignment issue and that was a little scary. Other than all good. Cudos to George our driver he managed the issue very well . And drove us safely back and there

Spectacular. Barry may be the best tour guide on the planet.
