An enjoyable drive, but hard to justify the price

    James_B, Sep 2026
We booked this tour for a group of five during a short stay in Whistler. Pickup was punctual, the Land Rover Defender was comfortable, and, as the only group in the vehicle, we effectively had a private tour. Our guide was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any bears. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and we certainly don’t hold our guide responsible for that. Our reservations were more about the overall experience and whether it justified the $600 cost. The route followed public roads close to Whistler, with no exclusive access to areas unavailable to other visitors. That isn’t necessarily a drawback, but it is worth knowing when deciding whether to book. As the tour progressed without any bear sightings, our guide tried to keep things interesting with some off-road driving, a small suspension bridge over a river, and stops to observe smaller details, including a spider’s web. We appreciated the effort, although these didn’t feel like a particularly substantial alternative to the main attraction. We also hoped for more in-depth information about bears and their habitat. On other wildlife tours, including whale watching, knowledgeable naturalist guides have added a great deal to the experience, regardless of what we saw. Here, the commentary felt fairly basic for a tour at this price. That evening, we drove the same route in our hire car and were fortunate enough to see a black bear just a few metres away. This was clearly a matter of luck, but it reinforced our feeling that the tour’s value needed to come from the guide’s expertise as much as the opportunity for a sighting. Overall, we appreciated the friendly service and comfortable transport, but the depth of the guided experience fell short of our expectations for the price.

    Great Experience

Loved seeing the bears up close. Highly recommend this tour. Would suggest going at the 6am time (friends went later and didnt see any)

    Drumroll…no bears

This is a tough one, as we had Larry who said he was the boss of the tour. At $150 pp, you want to see a bear, and the best we saw was the leg of a fleeting bear 50 yards away. Larry was a good guide, very informative! But as my wife said after, she won’t be doing that again. You drive around in a cramped rover (I had the front seat, wife had back and she got carsick) for 2.5 hours, focusing and looking for the elusive bear. None. Again, loved getting to see the park but we wanted bears, and all we got was a leg.

    Bears in Whistler!

We had a great experience. Daniel was an awesome guide. So knowledgeable and so accommodating! We were able to see 4 bears and the highlight was seeing a mama bear with her 2 cubs just munching on berries.

    Educational tour

    Lisa_T, Jul 2026
The guide was very informative. We learned ALL about bears. The Defender was very comfortable. We only saw one bear on the tour from a distance. Ironically we saw a bear up close in the parking lot prior to our guide arriving. We also saw several bears in the area and around the village throughout our stay. It was a nice experience, but we probably won’t book it again.

    Very informative guide...

Very informative guide and a comfortable 4 wheel drive. Only saw one near but is the luck of the draw on the day.

    Magical experience with bears

That although not every tour comes across a bear, the guides are very well informed and you learn so much about bears and their environment and ecology… and mostly, like us, you do see bears. Our guide, nickname Quirk, was brilliant. ’

    Exceptional experience!

Even though we did not see any bears on our tour we did have a great experience. Our guide shared so many interesting facts about bears all along the trip. We saw beautiful scenery everywhere we went.

We had an amazing morning exploring the Whistler area on the hunt for a bear sighting. We ended up seeing a black bear toward the end of the tour. Paul was an exceptional tour guide and very engaging to chat with. He is super knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. We would definitely recommend doing this tour!
