We went during the 6:30 pm time-slot and had a wonderful experience! Ivan was our guide and he was great! The trip was informational and was well worth it. We were in a group of four, so it was simple to divide us into two different kayaks. Trip took about an hour and a half, start to finish. We were able to see incredible bioluminescence in the water and also an amazing star view. Would absolutely do it again!

It was a very beautiful experience, definitely worth it. They ask you to remove your shoes before going, so water shoes can be helpful if you have trouble walking on rocks. Highly recommended — it’s absolutely worth going.

Horrible experince. The tour guy did not wait for us and started rowing away when we were still so far behind. It’s very dangerous considering it’s dark and this is our first time kayaking. He was not even aware that we were not with the group till half an hour later. We had to just go offshore. Did not even get a refund. Would never do this again and terrible service.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
We take safety very seriously. Before entering the water, all participants receive a clear and direct briefing on how to paddle properly and how to stay with the group at all times.
Claiming that this activity is dangerous is incorrect. This is a guided and controlled experience carried out under established safety protocols. It is not fair that, due to not following the provided instructions, a misleading perception is created that may alarm future visitors.
Our guides lead the group at an appropriate pace, and we have additional support to ensure no one is left behind. Staying with the group is the responsibility of each participant.
Our refund policies are clearly stated prior to booking and apply equally to all guests.
We fully stand by the professionalism and standards of our operation.

This tour was incredible! The clear kayaks were so worth it. The staff was great and we had a perfect experience. Definitely recommend!
Brian_G, Mar 2026
It was interesting to see but the time and conditions of the travel were pretty rough. Road going to the water was terrible and the time it took because of those conditions took away from time on the lake.

Amazing experience with an amazing tour guide. Thanks to Javier who made this incredible one of a kind experience even better.

The clear-bottom canoe through the bioluminescent bay was an incredible experience! We set out as the sun set, and saw the bioluminescence appear not long after. Due to their control of light pollution around the bay, there was also a fantastic clear view of the stars. We loved it!
Marina_O, Mar 2026
My 16 yr old son said to me that it was one of the best experiences he had ever had. From the glowing water, to the shining stars, to the freeing experience pf canoeing at night. Very organized as well - highly reccomend.

Had a great time! The pickup spot was easy to find, we left right on time. The whole trip felt very efficient and fun and knowledgeable, and no time was wasted.
For the general features for future travelers:
We left our shoes at the pickup spot and got onto a van for a fun and bumpy ride to the bay. Once at the bay we got life jackets, clear instructions, and took a short walk on mostly paved sidewalk to the fully clear canoes and went right out into the bay. Our guide shared some knowledge about the bay, the bioluminescent creatures, and the constellations we could see - but most of the time was letting us explore and marvel at the one in a million sights! It was a new moon, a clear night and the water was glowing, it was amazing to see and very well run to give so many people a chance to experience it

Loved the bio Bay. would appreciate more information from the guide in preparation for the experience prior to the van ride

"Full clear canoes experience" is extremely misleading. Only the very bottom of the kayak is clear. There were entirely clear kayaks that other groups had, and multiple people from our tour group asked if the other clear ones weren't meant for us. Many disgruntled parties in our entire group because all thought they signed up for entirely clear kayaks/canoes.
Additionally, we were only on the water for 40 minutes. We were the very first tour group that arrived at the same time to leave. We got out of the water and then had to stand around for 10 minutes while we waited for the vehicles to return.
There's other companies that offer fully clear kayaks AND their tours are longer AND the price is cheaper.
Tess_S, Mar 2026
The your felt very safe and efficiently run conserving the chaos of all the other companies touring at the same time. Highly recommended activity! The lights were beautiful!
CHELSEA_B, Mar 2026
I think this is a great experience to go to! Worth the money and time for sure.
Luis was a great tour guide! We would have loved for just a little bit less fast pace for a tiny bit of time so we could really take it in and enjoy it more!

It was such an amazing experience, me and my boyfriend enjoyed it a lot, thanks to Gohan for taking the pictures. Something important to mention is that I had never done kayak before and it was very simple for me, it is a magic expirience and besides seeing how the water shines, they teach you about the stars, the sky looks amazing from the kayak.
Traci_A, Mar 2026
Amazing tour guides, amazing experience! Let us paddle around for a long time, gave great educational information. Was amazing! Got to see so many stars in addition to the glowing water. Please note: your bottom will get wet in kayak! Only critique I have is to please let people keep their shoes on until getting to canoes…maybe have a bin at water for shoes instead. Walking barefoot for long distances on concrete was somewhat difficult.

Very bright glow. Excellent staff and organization. The ride over was 15 minutes. Quite bumpy. But the driver was excellent.
Paddling was easy. Only about five minutes. Before you start seeing the glow. Highly recommend for all ages and fitness level.
True highlight of the trip. Don’t miss.

This activity takes place on an island with no land access. If you are in San Juan you must take a ferry to the meeting point. That is not mentioned anywhere on the description. My group of 14 people lost $800 due to missing the appropriate ferry. The operators response is that telling people about the ferry is not their responsibility.
Emily_P, Mar 2026
It was amazing I would recommend this tour to anyone traveling here!! The color or the bioluminescence was truly beautiful!!
Karen_F, Mar 2026
Absolutely worth the trek- unique and beautiful. Guides were helpful and knowledgeable! The clear kayaks allowed us to be surrounded by the dinoflagellates.
AL_R, Mar 2026
The ride in the van to the launch site was like the Indiana Jones ride in Disneyland, haha. We did the late tour. Wear something that can get wet. It rained heavy on us before we even got into the kayaks. You will be barefoot for a short walk to the kayak. Unless there is an odd number in your group, you will be paired with someone. I was able to go solo and our group was a small 7. I’m also an avid kayaker and not gonna lie, it was a little scary at first being on the choppy, windy, dark ocean. Once we got further out and it calmed down we could then notice the spectacular light show. All in all it was a bucket list experience for me. I had a great time.
Veronica_H, Mar 2026
While this experience started off strong, I was disappointed in the quality of this experience. Even though we could see the bioluminescence, it is VERY minimal but overall a cool experience. Also, I would wear a swimsuit or bring extra shorts because you will be soaked by the end. During the swim, our guide was far away from us and our groups became very disconnected. There are also various other groups out in the ocean, using the same paddles and lights, so it’s very difficult to distinguish between your guide once it gets dark. Overall, this experience was extremely anxiety inducing and would NOT be for a beginner kayaker. The island of Vieques is beautiful and should be visited despite this blip

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
We were surprised to read this review, as this month has actually been one of the brightest periods of bioluminescence in the bay according to the experiences of many of our guests. Bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon and its intensity can vary depending on environmental conditions such as moonlight, tides, and water movement.
Regarding group organization and visibility, our operation uses a unique identifying light that allows guests to easily distinguish our group from others in the bay. In addition, every tour is operated with two guides in the water — a lead guide at the front of the group and a second guide positioned at the rear to support guests and ensure the group remains together throughout the experience.
Mosquito Bay is a protected natural area and multiple licensed operators conduct tours there each evening. Our team follows established safety and operational procedures to ensure that all guests are properly guided and monitored during the activity.
Kayaking in the bay is an active water-based experience, so some splashing is normal. For this reason we recommend comfortable clothing or swimwear.
We appreciate all feedback and continuously work to maintain a safe, organized, and memorable experience for visitors exploring the beauty of Vieques.

Really great little adventure! Nice guys and well organized. Would happily do it again.
Rained a little bit but it was still fun!!!
AndrewPurcell, Mar 2026
On time. Very patient with us. Once in a lifetime experience. Extremely Dark which made it unique for us.
Bridget_A, Mar 2026
Amazing to see the bioluminescence and the stars while paddling in the bay. Once in a lifetime experience. Our guide, Luis, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The folks working at the tour guide place were super helpful, and had very direct instructions on what to do.
Andrea_F, Mar 2026
Had a great time. Everything went smoothly. Transportation to the bay was very organized and the guide was very knowledgeable about the ecosystem.
Michelle_H, Feb 2026
The tour was way too short. We only spent about 20-30 mins in the kayaks in the bay. Although the bioluminescent was neat to see, we spent the majority of a day waiting for ferry or on the ferry.
Regina_T, Feb 2026
They closed for the whole week. But still took my money on Monday knowing they were closed! When we come back I will find a better biobay company.
Response from Host, Mar 2026

The guides were fantastic! I was very nervous & they really took good care of me & my family. All the guides were knowledgeable, patient, and never made us feel rushed. They patiently answered all our questions even if they were repeated by one of the kids. My guide, I can't remember his name. Either Luis or Stephen...I wish I could remember. He was thin & had his hair up. He was amazing! He made me feel very at easy. Showing us the constellations was fascinating. Explaining the history, the ecosystem, & the Taino history & language. The clear kayaks were so cool!
Everything ran so smoothly. I was very impressed. I would highly recommend doing the bio bay tour with this company in a heartbeat!
Charles_B, Feb 2026
Great tour. We went on a dark cloudy night and the bioluminescence was really bright. Glad to have the clear canoe!
Travelle_H, Feb 2026
This experience was great. The tour guides (especially Luis) was a great help in making me and my gf feel comfortable and safe with great knowledge. Would recommend.
Kelsey_H, Feb 2026
Our tour guide was great, very knowledgeable about the constellations and did well keeping our children’s attention.
