The meeting point was a little confusing at first, but don’t let that deter you—it was absolutely worth it. I called to make sure we were waiting in the right place, and the bus driver answered immediately. He was incredibly kind, welcoming, and made us feel at ease from the start.
Once we got to the bay, the experience exceeded every expectation. Our two guides on the water were fantastic—so knowledgeable and passionate. They didn’t just lead the tour; they explained the science behind the bioluminescence in a way that was fascinating and easy to understand.
Seeing the bay light up was honestly one of the coolest things we’ve ever experienced. It felt magical, and it’s something our family will never forget. We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Vieques!

The location is across the street from the realty place. The maps had it next door. Absolutely fantastic experience. The road to the bay is rough, but small price to pay for breathtaking skies and glowing water. The guide was great, knowledgeable and very laid back.

First of all, Raul runs this excursion all on his own so I want to applaud him for taking care of all 6 of my family while he got us to and from the bag. There are many larger outfits doing the same thing but you can tell they aren’t as interactive with their customers.
This adventure was absolutely miraculous. It was like floating through space and I am so glad we booked the clear kayaks so you could see all of the bioluminescence being triggered as we paddled through the water. Since there was virtually zero light pollution (except for a little moon light) the entire night sky was lit up with super bright stars and the water below you was lit up in bioluminescence. This was an experience we will never forget and is definitely a bucket list type activity.
Raul took his time to explain practically everything there is to know about the microscopic aquatic organisms called dinoflagellates. His passion about the ecosystem where they thrive truly shows how much he loves not only the Puerto Rican biome but also what he does every single evening. He answered any questions we had and showed us how to take the perfect picture of the bioluminescence.
When we were done, Raul took us back to the pickup spot and let us use his water hose across the street at his house to wash off the dirt and grime of the bay launch point.

This was the WORST and MOST unsafe thing I have ever done. Raul didn’t have a backup light when any sane person in three feet of water would use a head lamp and an additional light. Not only that his directions to meet are equally awful. Do yourself a favor and book with another company.

Raul was the best guide! We were in a group of six and he was so patient and even drove us back to our airbnb after a long day! He was also very informed about the bioluminescence in the area and even shared some insane photos of the area with us later on.

This tour might deserve a 5 star in normal circumstances, but in an effort to call out the problem so that others don't get stuck with the same problem, a 2-star seems appropriate.
So let's start with the goods - the tour itself was great, the guides were friendly and fun and did a great job keeping the group together. The bioluminescence was much brighter than what I experienced in other places.
The problem - one big reason we booked this tour at 7pm and not others which started later was we planned to take the last ferry at 9:30pm back to Ceiba. It should have been enough time, as the tour runs 1.5 hours and there would be an hour for us to get back from Esperanza to Vieques. But literally 40 minutes before the supposed start time at 7pm, they called and said that the tour would start at 7:30pm instead. This basically left us with no choice but to risk missing the ferry. And sure enough, we did miss ferry and had to scramble to find a place to stay late at night (though the locals were very nice and helpful).
In the tourism business, accuracy and on-time are so important, and I don't think I need to overstate how critical this is to allow customers to plan their trip should they choose to. We paid the price (extra cost for accommodation, time and energy) for the tour agency not being reliable.
Another problem was with the pickup. The address show in the event detail was not close to where the meetup place actually was. Compounded with the problem that there were multiple tour operators around the same area, it was really confusing. They should really make it more clear so that anyone can find with meetup point without much efforts.

The host is very passionate about the ecology of the Bioluminescent Bay. Although it was a full moon, we could see the bioluminescent microorganisms and they put a tarp over the kayaks so we could see them better. Great experience!
