This tour perfectly blends rich cultural history with incredible food. Having Chef Bob as our guide made all the difference. He shared deep insights into Chinatown’s heritage while leading us to the absolute best culinary spots in the neighborhood.Every single tasting was phenomenal. We loved the delicious dim sum, flavorful BBQ, and the perfect pairing of pastries and tea. We walked away with full stomachs and a profound appreciation for the area's vibrant history. If you love food and history, request Bob and book this tour!

We had a fantastic day in Chinatown with our very friendly group and excellent guide, Kenson. The food was delicious, the pacing was on point, and the tour while informative, it was always just the right amount of detail. I loved the tea shop and the tea brewing demonstrations. If you’re a foodie, this was a great day out.

This was a GREAT walking tour and Kenson was AMAZING! He knows so much Chinese history, architecture and the gardens were beautiful. The tour was a good amount of walking, but the only thing to mention is there is a lot of STANDING as well. The BBQ, apple buns, tarts and tea demo all were standing but it was worth it for the delicious food at the end at the Jade Dynasty Restaurant! thank you Kenson and Robert for a GREAT TOUR in Vancouver BC!

Thomas was our guide & he was a fountain of knowledge! Appreciated getting to see inside of 3 gardens/museums and learning about the history of Chinese immigrants who founded Chinatown. The selection of food was excellent, we should have come to the tour hungrier than we did!! Quality was superb, and finishing the tour at the teahouse to learn about Kung fu tea was awesome. Recommend this tour for anyone wanting to appreciate both Chinese culture and food. Highlight of our visit to Vancouver!!

This was a wonderful way to learn about Chinese influence and tradition in Vancouver. Bob greeted us at the garden where he introduced himself and then passed it off to our tour guide Thomas. Thomas was excellent. He was informative, funny, and easy to listen to and talk to. The food items were AMAZING and generous. Previous food tours I’ve experienced offered only small portions of items. These were full servings with a complete diim sum experience at the end. The tea tasting was my favorite part of the tour. Although each part was special. The entire tour was four hours which flew by. Truly I could have spent another four hours learning and listening to Thomas. This is a must see if you visit Vancouver.

This is a great tour!! There were 7 of us and our guide, Bob. I’d booked this months in advance, so I couldn’t really remember anything except that it was a food tour. It was, but it was much more than that! We started at the beautiful Dr. Sun Yat Sen garden and learned about Chinese philosophy and the history of the Chinese people in Vancouver. Next we headed to a small museum. The exhibits came alive as Bob pointed out family members and told anecdotes about people he knew. Or was related to. We also visited the Storytelling center. It’s a lovely and very well organized museum with compelling exhibits. Then the food. We had savory pork and sweet pork at the Chinese barbecue. Yum! Next, we had an Apple bun made famous in Vancouver. Delicious! Next we visited a Chinese medicine shop and sampled some candied ginger. After that, we had dim sum lunch with long life noodles and lots of dumplings. And we finally ended in a tea shop where we saw a demonstration of tea making and sampled some delicious tea. It was outstanding!!! Great way to learn about Vancouver’s Chinese citizens and their history and to sample the great food.

Kenson and Bob are great. Kenson took us all around. We learned a ton about Chinese culture, Chinese immigration, their livelihoods in this region, and Chinese foods. Kenson was kind and very knowledgeable. We learned about tea, herbs, and an assortment of delicious foods. We’ve been eating dim sum for many years, and the late lunch we had today was simply excellent. It was a great experience. Highly recommended.

This not a review for the Tour because there was a miscommunication and we unable to take part in the tour. This review is for the trip getting to the start location, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, of the Tour. Beware, you will be walking through an area where you will see people in distress. This is what Google has to say about the surrounding area.
"Vancouver’s Chinatown is not strictly a "no-go" zone, but it borders the Downtown Eastside (DTES), resulting in a gritty, unpredictable street-level environment. While daytime visits to the shops and Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Gardens are generally safe, the area suffers from visible open drug use, homelessness, and street disorder that can feel highly confronting.Crime & Street ConditionsThe Atmosphere: You will frequently encounter public drug consumption and visible mental health crises. Many visitors describe the streets as dirty, with frequent litter and a strong smell of urine.Violent Crime: While violent crime mostly affects street-involved individuals, there have been random assaults and high-profile incidents that keep the community on edge.Property Crime: "Crimes of opportunity" like pickpocketing, theft, and commercial break-ins are common.City Interventions: The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has implemented targeted task forces to crack down on crime and increase police presence in the area.Where to Exercise CautionEast Hastings Street: The northern border of Chinatown bleeds into East Hastings, which is the epicenter of Vancouver's opioid crisis. Avoid walking here, especially after dark."
We saw people using drugs, we saw someone collaps on the ground. I would caution anyone while transitting this area.
Once we returned to our Hotel, we spoke to the concierge, they informed us that if they had know about our tour, they would have recommended that we not go on the tour. They were very complimentary of Chef Bob. We just wanted to warn anyone about this tour!!!
Valerie_H, May 2026
It's heavy on the culture side of things. A bit slow moving though informative. Our host was lovely and knowledgeable. But it wasn't really a true food experience as we've done in the past. Also the areas we walked through were very heavily populated with homeless/drug issues and I would have liked to known that - wouldn't have carried my LV purse. Also 4+ hours was too long and this should be noted in the experience write up.
Response from Host, May 2026
Hello Valerie:
Thank you for your review. Sounds like you three were disappointed with the Tour. The purpose of the Tour is to educate & entertain from a Culinary & Cultural perspective.
Again, thanks for your feedback

What an incredible day. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was completely wowed by the experience. Thomas was our guide and he wove stories and experiences seemlessly into the telling of the history of Chinese settlers in Vancouver. I learned many things today, but more importantly, I unlearned a few things too.
Every food tasting was delicious. The herb store was fascinating and I could have easily spent more time learning about what was there. Dim sum was delicious although I’m going to need a whole lot of practice to master my chop stick game.
The shared tea at the end was a real privilege to watch and share in.
Start to finish, it was an incredible day I won’t soon forget. I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity.
Note: there were a lot of unhoused people on the streets and in the alleys. We felt very safe with Thomas, but it was unsettling. This is the reality of Vancouver.

Hi Tracy:

Short walks interspersed with breaks & lots of varied & delicious food stops. Bob is a excellent & knowledgeable guide with a significant & impressive Chinese/Canadian family ancestry.

Awesome experience! Bob is far more than an experienced tour guide. His connections to the community take this tour to a whole other level. Not only can he explain the historical context behind an old black and white photo in the museum but then he pointed out his uncle and the personal context associated with it. This happened through out the tour. He seemed to know everything and everyone in Chinatown. As far as the food...you will end the tour well fed and very content. A very nice selection of food experiences. I would do this tour again!

We had SUCH a good time with Bob as our tour guide. It ended up being only myself and husband so we felt quite spoiled as the only 2 on the tour. The garden was amazing. And Bob’s knowledge of history and Chinese culture provides so much context. From BBQ to pastries to a dim sum lunch and tea tasting - it’s a beautiful education and celebration of Chinese culture, history and heritage in Canada. Besides the food- you also visit an herbalist shop and several museums.

Hello Nicole:
