This was an outstanding experience. Bob was knowledgeable and personable. Beside have a great assortment of food , we were exposed to many facets of Chinese culture in Vancouver. One of the best tours I have ever been on. I would recommend it to anyone of any age

Broad & detailed, verbal & on site information about Chinese culture & it's origin & current status in Canada & Vancouver. Awesome experience! Bob is far more than an experienced tour guide. His connections to the community take this tour to a whole other level. Not only can he explain the historical context behind an old black and white photo in the museum but then he pointed out his uncle and the personal context associated with it. This happened through out the tour. He seemed to know everything and everyone in Chinatown. As far as the food...you will end the tour well fed and very content. A very nice selection of food experiences. I would do this tour again!

We had SUCH a good time with Bob as our tour guide. It ended up being only myself and husband so we felt quite spoiled as the only 2 on the tour. The garden was amazing. And Bob’s knowledge of history and Chinese culture provides so much context. From BBQ to pastries to a dim sum lunch and tea tasting - it’s a beautiful education and celebration of Chinese culture, history and heritage in Canada. Besides the food- you also visit an herbalist shop and several museums.

This experience felt like a lost episode of Parts Unknown. It wasn't just a meal; it was a dive into the history of the Chinese experience in Canada—a story that felt hauntingly familiar yet distinctly its own. It served as a poignant reminder that the grass isn't always greener, and the struggles within Asian communities on both sides of the border often rhyme more than they differ.
On a lighter note—and it pains my 'Murican soul to admit this—Canada might have us beat. In terms of portion size, quality, and price, they’ve set a new bar. To put it in perspective: a single dim sum dumpling here is easily the size of two 'Texas-sized' ones back home. It was truly unreal.

An absolutely amazing Chinatown tour ! Felt like a well curated walk with a knowledgeable friend who truly wanted to share his personal favorite places in Chinatown. If you are looking for a walking tour that has it all, look no further. Bob was an exemplary host for a tour that more feels like your learning with your friends as opposed to a guide showing you the sights. He is very knowledgeable but that knowledge comes out in such a natural way. There were nine of us on the tour, four from Australia, three from Michigan and myself and my Wife. By the end of the close to 4 1/2 hours we spent together it felt like we were all fast friends that hadn’t known each other for long.
The sights, sounds and tastes were all there. The food was excellent, and all included, we paid nothing extra on the tour. We learned a great deal about the Chinese culture, its nuances, and the historical aspect of their integration into Canadian culture.
The tea service part along with its history was a perfect ending to a wonderful afternoon. Couldn’t recommend it more highly!!

I discovered Bob Sung’s Chinatown tour through an online blog post, and it was an amazing experience for me and my parents! Bob was such a great tour guide; he was so knowledgeable about Chinese Canadian history, especially related to Vancouver.
I will also be going back to some of the restaurants/bakeries/shops we visited because the food & tea we sampled were amazing (& I saw so many other delicious items to try). My perception and experiences of Vancouver’s Chinatown have been enriched by Bob, and I recommend that anyone who plans to go to Vancouver’s Chinatown sign up for this tour! Even if you’ve already visited Vancouver’s Chinatown before, I highly recommend you sign up because Bob’s insights are so enriching & worthwhile!

It was a great properly paced tour, with lots of history and information. The food and tea were amazing. The gardens were just spectacular. Were went at the end of November I would recommend going during warmer months to see all the trees with their leaves.

This was a cultural walking tour of Vancouver's Chinatown. There is so much history in any Chinatown where the locals built the railroads, fought institutional racism, and retain a culture and the Chef was well versed in bringing much of this to life in an afternoon. We started at the Cultural Center, then tasted Chinese BBQ and pork buns, we visited museums that documented Chinese life in BC and ended with lunch and then a royal tea ceremony. The best parts of the tour were that it was small, intimate, and relevant to a group of five.

Our afternoon w/Bob was fantastic. We learned so much about the Chinese Canadian culture & food and visited places we would have never found/gone to on our own. At each it was truly like having a personal docent with us.
Also the food was wonderful (& a lot... ). He is so knowledgeable about both history and current events, places in Vancouver.

Bob is a superior guide. He has familial and historical ties to Chinatown. Everywhere we went the business owners were genuinely happy to see him. We did not eat at every stop but were totally full by the end of the tour. We were impressed by the historical, cultural and philosophical insights that Bob shared with us.

This was the BEST cultural and culinary tour we have ever experienced anywhere in the world. Bob, our guide went far beyond any guide explaining the culture behind the food we were experiencing. Bob tied the history of the Chinese people and culture in with their entrance into Canada and their importance to the country. We would recommend this tour to anyone of all aged.

Our Chinatown food tour with Bob was an absolute delight! Not only did we enjoy an incredible variety of delicious dishes—some familiar favorites and others completely new to us—but we also felt truly immersed in Bob’s culture and his deep connection to this historic neighborhood. His knowledge of the area seems endless, and visiting a traditional Chinese garden followed by a local museum where his own family is part of the story added such a personal and meaningful touch.
We were a group of six with several dietary restrictions, and Bob went above and beyond to make sure everyone was accommodated and comfortable. Every stop was thoughtful, and every bite was fantastic.
We wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience the heart and flavor of Vancouver’s Chinatown. A huge thank you to Bob for giving us such a memorable and special day!
