Overview
Have two hours of fun in the waves of Tamarindo on this private surf lesson, suitable for all levels. Your instructors will give you plenty of instruction both in and out of the water, so there’s a very good chance you’ll catch a wave. If you don’t, you’ll receive a free second lesson. Your board is provided, so just show up ready to surf.

We meet at the PARKING right next to the restaurant “El Vaquero”, look for the purple flag that says “La Muda” or ask the parking guy/girl for “La Muda Surf”. If you for whatever reason have trouble finding us, you can ask for La Muda Surf, Carlos Brown, Isabella Carrera and Jeison Brown.

We are a family of 4 (10- and 13-year-old boys) who had never surfed before. The instructors were super patient and informative...and best of all we all got up (most of us many times). I highly recommend this company if in Tamarindo and looking to surf. They also took amazing photos for us to purchase at the end. Such a great experience!

This was absolutely amazing! Chino and Juan Carlos were so good we actually came back for a second day! 10/10
Great experience. They were easy to find and we both got up and rode the waves. They knew just which area of the beach would have the best waves for beginners and more experienced surfers. If we come back, we will use them again. The instruction and knowledge of the beach was excellent.
Avoid buying smoothies on the beach though, one smoothie and two bottles of water was $50 US. The area does price gouge tourists on food, etc. a travel size stick of deodorant was $10 US.
I went with my sister (22 and 20) and had a great experience! We were both beginners but the instructors were very helpful and we caught many waves. Highly recommend!
Great experience. All five people in our group were able to stand-up by the end with most of us able to stand up and ride several waves over the lesson. Would definitely recommend.

We were really impressed with this experience start to finish! The host contacted us via text two days prior with instructions and asked if we had any questions. Carlos was ready for us when we got there. He was really thorough with instructions. My kids are 8, 10 and 12 and they felt a little lost at the beginning but once we got on boards in the sand they learned quickly. Carlos wanted to be sure we all had a good time and grabbed three additional instructors for our group. He assigned one to our 8yo son and one for my 10 and 12yo, and one for my husband and I. I loved that my kids had one on one help and attention for safety. My 8yo got up on his board before the rest of us even got out to the water!!!! His instructor was so patient and good with him, and he even had him jumping to turn positions on top of the board!! We all got up on the boards several times. We got a good hour of board time. Carlos stayed on shore and took tons of photos for us with a telephoto lens. We paid extra for the photos but it wasn’t a big deal because the cost of surfing for five of us was so affordable. Start to finish everyone was so hospitable, professional and kind. We absolutely loved this excursion and highly recommend!!!!
Carlos was an amazing teacher and looked out for everyone in his group. A true coach, he was constantly scanning for safety and better technique in all the students. He took his time and made sure those that were not quite as quick to get the form to slow down, make them feel like they were getting a true 1:1 experience. And good vibes!

My friend and I had such a wonderful experience with La Muda! They made our first time surfing such an easy and smooth experience. We were very nervous going into it but the knowledge and kindness of all the instructors was amazing. It was also very easy to find on the beach with Isabella’s instructions. I would recommend to anyone booking a surf lesson to go with them.

It was so much fun!! We went in May and I got to practice my Spanish with Chino, and couldn’t stop laughing. The sun wasn’t too bright and there were tons of great waves. My boyfriend and I had a great time for our first lesson and 1000% recommend booking this lesson. Puda Vida!!
Highly recommend Michael who was extremely patient and encouraging knowing it was my first time surfing. He made me feel very confident in myself and constantly gave me corrections/advice that allowed me to improve quickly.

Detailed dry land lesson, 1 instructor per surfer in the water, very beginner friendly! Got up plenty of times with my partner. Was a blast! Expect to be sore the next day.
Carlos and his team at La Muda surf were amazing. Our kids (11, 13 and 15) were standing up and having a blast almost right away. You could tell th people who skipped the lesson because they were falling constantly and not having fun. Carlos speak excellent English and covered all of the safety and surfing instructions perfectly. It was especially fun when the instructors cheered our kids on when they had a great run! I could not recommend Carlos and La Muda surf more highly! One of the best things we did in all of Costa Rica!
AMAZING experience! My 2 teens (13, 15) were both able to get up on the boards and had an absolute blast. Spent about 20 minutes before getting in the water, so time surfing was around 1.5 hrs.

We stood up, but the 5 Stars is for what happened before.
We are going through the lesson part, where you practice standing on the board before doing it live, and my daughter's toe nail folds back (yep, not ripped but folded). I'm thinking, day's over. Not so. This is where the owner runs to the parking lot and borrows a pair of nail clippers to save the day. 100% hero and such a nice guy - thanks again.

We had a blast! The instructor (Carlos ?) and team were extremely attentive and very understanding. Safety was always at the forefront. We had plenty of time in the water to practice what was taught on land, and even then we were coached on every attempt. I can’t stress enough how wonderful these guys were; polite, dedicated to making us surfers and just plain happy.
My instructors were amazing! The guy who did the initial prep was very thorough. He insured that instructions were retained by having me repeat the motions at least 5x before being in the water. My instructor was Jino was very encouraging and gave me feedback every time. I was able to stand right away thanks my instructors. Highly recommend them!
