What an amazing adventure due in large part to our guide, Noah. He was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable, especially about plants. He harvested native fruits at pur road side stops and brought prepared ones, too. The magic fruit truly was magical! It was long day, but to actually be on the mountains instead of looking at them was quite an experience.

This excursion to Tahiti’s extraordinary interior beauties with Noah couldn’t have been better. He is quite an expert explaining details of this jungle like atmosphere including its plants, flowers, mountain peaks etc. It was well organized and we had a delightful time. This was the highlight of our stay in Papeete. We highly recommend this tour and especially with Noah .

What a wonderful time we had exploring the stunning landscapes of Tahiti. Our guide, Noah, made the experience even more memorable. His extensive knowledge of local plants and history was truly impressive, and his sense of humor kept us engaged throughout the tour. He did an excellent job accommodating our bilingual group (French and English), taking the time to explain everything clearly in both languages. No question went unanswered. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone, especially if they have the chance to tour with Noah.

Best way to see interior of Tahiti

    Brock_W, Nov 2025
Overall this was a good experience that allowed us to see the awesome interior of the island. I took this excursion with my wife during our honeymoon and we traveled with a German & French couple who were very friendly (we are Americans). The only downsides to the tour were it was very bumpy (which we didn’t mind, but my wife bumped her head a couple times). Additionally the guide seemed to care too much about my opinion on how the tour was going and didn’t learn anyone else’s names - I’m assuming working for the “American tip”?. Lastly the tour lasted 1 hour beyond when it should’ve ended and our German friends almost missed their dinner reservation because of this. Overall it was a good time and I’d recommend, just wear river shoes, a swimsuit and a rash guard.

    Best adventure!

    Laurie_F, Oct 2025
It was an amazing adventure! Noa was an exceptional driver and guide. He truly loved sharing his knowledge and history of the island. It’s a 4 wheel drive 8 hour experience on non paved roads. You can sit or stand in the open jeep. We loved it!

    The incredible unseen Tahiti

    Olivia_D, Sep 2025
Awesome experience to see a side (or inside) of Tahiti not easily accessible to most and not often seen! We had Noah as our guide and driver and he was full of local information, fun facts and jokes! He felt like part of the family and we all had such a great time.

    4x4 in Tahiti

    April_A, Sep 2025
This was such a a great excursion and it allowed you to see a very different part of the island. Very bumpy but ohhh so worth it. Our your guide was truly amazing.. He went above and beyond during the entire excursion. Highly recommend.

    100% worth it

    Eric_F, Jul 2025
Our family loved every second of this journey! 100% bumpy and 100% magnificent. Eric was a wonderful guide and an even better driver. The route is very uphill, downhill, and bumpy, but the views were unbeatable. This was the highlight of our time in Tahiti. We could not recommend this more! 100/10. 10 stars!!!!

    A Good Shakeup

    John_C, Jul 2025
I did this 4WD trip with titanium in my back but secured a front seat with the driver. I was quite comfortable, but my friend had a big shake up in the back. Unfortunately, on our particular day, the “road” was closed at the Northern end, so we were driven to the mid point, and back, about 100km? The hydro road gets almost no maintenance & is shocking. Fortunately, we were in a near new 4WD. The scenery was incredible, different to NZ, more dramatic and lush. We had several stops to enjoy the waterfall views, and a swim. Lunch (own cost) was at an isolated restaurant in the mountains. Some of the stops could have been shorter, as the drive lasted a good 8 hours. Our driver Eric, was great, and nothing was too much trouble. If you enjoy discomfort, a challenge & great scenery, I’d so, go for it!

    Great experience

Had a great full day on this experience. The Guide, Noah, was very fun, outgoing, and knowledgeable. Would absolutely recommend

Best Event During 2 Wk. Trip Fantastic Guide

    Timothy_L, Jun 2025
Great tour of a magnificent set of valleys that are filled with gorgeous waterfalls. Fantastic and knowledgeable tour guide who competently drove a challenging roadway, entertained the riders w/ stories, natural knowledge and even sang and played the uke. Also, he worked with 2 other tour guides to clear roadway of a major rock slide. Only complaint was I had booked for 2 but my cousin pulled her back out and couldn’t come on the trip. Trip Advisor ( parent co. Of Viator ) to deny me a refund for the 2nd Paid Fare despite ads for trip say Fully Refundable if canceled before 24 hour window. I called Viator, emailed and text at least five times. No response to emails or texts but firm No’s from unfriendly and unknowledgeable phone reps.

    It’s a bumpy ride but...

It’s a bumpy ride but it’s worth it !!! Out guide Pito Augustin was amazing, he was passionate and eager to share his knowledge!! To sum it up : a great experience with a great guide !!

Beautiful views and a great driver!

    Lindsey_G, Mar 2025
Reading other reviews, I was skeptical but we loved this experience! Our driver Noah was the very best, very knowledgeable, personable and caring. Lunch was a reasonable 30-40 minutes and there was a great view. The views driving through the center were so beautiful! Noah took the top off so we had optimal viewing from the vehicle for the whole drive. Standing makes the ride much smoother, just a tip. Would DEFINITELY recommend this excursion.

    Rough terrain

    Elaine_S, Jan 2025
Extremely rough terrain for an 8 hour excursion!!!! Be prepared to be jostled ALOT for a LONG time, 8 hours!!! But I guess it was worth it to experience and see the top of the mountains and all the waterfalls along the way.

    Excellent experience

    Marina_K, Jan 2025
We had an amazing experience discovering Tahiti island from inside! The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and we made many great photos and videos I would highly recommend this tour!!

    Inner Island Tahiti

    Nathaniel_P, Nov 2024
This tour did not disappoint. It was a full day of epic waterfalls, swimming, panoramic views, and stories of the island. We enjoyed the stops for photos and the guide was very knowledgeable and animated. One thing to note it’s very bumpy throughout the tour but the padding and handrails help a bit for safety.

Thrilling Adventure on the 4x4 Safari Tour in Tahiti Nui!

    Susanne_A, Oct 2024
This adventure allowed us to explore the stunning landscapes and hidden gems of the island in a way that simply wouldn't be possible on foot. Our guide Hotu is so cool—knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to share the secrets of Tahiti's natural beauty. The tour took us through lush rainforests, past breathtaking waterfalls, and up to panoramic viewpoints that showcased the island's stunning coastline and mountains. The ride itself was thrilling, with plenty of off-road action that added to the excitement. We stopped at several key locations, where we had the chance to take photos and soak in the stunning scenery. Each stop was well-timed, allowing us to appreciate the beauty around us without feeling rushed. Overall, I highly recommend a 4x4 Safari tour to anyone visiting Tahiti. It’s an exhilarating way to see the island's diverse landscapes and experience its natural beauty. I left with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for this tropical paradise!

    Amazing Experience

    Christopher_Z, Sep 2024
Are safari experience was amazing! Our driver, Hotu, was an expert at traversing the treacherous terrain. He taught us about the islands formation, tropical fruit trees and plants, and most importantly about Tahitien Culture. Hotu also speaks many languages to answer all the questions from world travelers. Thanks for the great experience.

    Tahiti Island Interior

    Craig_M, Sep 2024
The scenery was incredible and we had the opportunity to take many photographs. Swimming in the mountain stream was fun and refreshing. The lunch break was a little too long. Hotu, our guide, was friendly, spoke fairly good English, and was extremely knowledgeable about all things Tahitian! The only way to see the interior of the island is on a tour and the full-day tour is a must. We were very pleased with our experience!

Not sure whether to do it again

    Kamil_V, Sep 2024
As described before. It is bumpy trip and i got tired after first 3 hours but the interier of the island is really beautiful. The best part starts after the lunch. The reason for getting 3 stars is that I just got pure ride through the island and thats it, no info about island, culture etc. Our driver Eric didnt speak English very well and speaking was split like 10 minutes talk in French and one sentence in English. Also didnt understand why we were stopping for quite long time on some stops, especially at the beggining e.g. watching chickens?!? or at the begining of Panepo'o village by the creek. If you decide to do the tour, book woth another agency but not Tahiti Safari like we did. We saw that guys on other tours got refresments or explanation about plants like iaoranaexpeditions.com

Magical heart of the island: waterfalls kingdom

    Sebastien_C, Sep 2024
Beautiful scenery, lots of waterfall. But long drive for the whole day which can be quite tiring if you are not used to it. You can swim in some part of the river but the water is quite cold obviously. The lunch stop at the restaurant was too long in my opinion, bring cash with you.

It Jurassic Park without dinosaurs in Tahiti

    Deirdre_H, Aug 2024
What a experience of a lifetime...pick up was on time. Eric our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and just plain fun...U met some wonderful people. Would never have seen inside of the real Tahiti with the mountains and waterfalls if not for this adventure. It's a bumbby trip, but we all laughed and had a great time. It's not your usual touristy trip

    Dreadful

    Amy_B, Jul 2024
Awful all around. 8 hours of bumpy dirt roads. Nothing special to see. A nightmare of a restaurant that kept us prisoner for 3 hours. A terrible waste of a day.

    Travelling through Jurassic Park!

    alison_r, May 2024
Great day traversing the island on extremely rough roads, amazing scenery, definitely wouldn’t do in a hire car! Sydney our guide was really nice, interesting guy who spoke excellent English and French. Only criticism is that the day was a bit long, we could have had a shorter lunch stop. Restaurant ok, big portions but ok with you sharing a meal. Would totally recommend doing the full day trip rather than the half day.

    Bumpy! But great fun.

    Michelle_A, May 2024
This is a full day tour without lunch but you are taken to a lovely spot for lunch (at your expense). The tour focuses on the scenery of the inside of the island of Tahiti so doesn't visit 'tourist attractions'. The road is bumpy! There are lots of photo opportunities. Be aware, as soon as you are on the west side of the island the road is exceptionally bumpy and the 4x4 you are in does not provide a huge amount of 'padding'! Saying that, it was a great day and we saw a part of Tahiti we never would have.

    AMAZING JOURNEY!!

    Irene_E, Apr 2024
It was an amazing journey. Although a tour not for the faint of heart it's absolutely worth it. We saw waterfall after waterfall crossing the island in the most beautiful routes. Sydney and Tady our tour guides were absolutely fantastic and very caring with all of us. The only not such good thing was lunch but all in all it was a beautiful tour with great experiences. I will do it again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend

Great Adventure - watch lunch arrangements

    Robert_M, Apr 2024
The trip was an adventure. Very bumpy but I expected that. I was surprised with lunch. The writeup said lunch was not included so we brought a sandwich. We stopped for lunch at a restaurant and when we told them we would not be eating there they got very upset. We were outside by the vehicle and they wanted us to leave the property. I think the tour company should make this clear beforehand. Otherwise a very nice day in nature.

9 hours of being thrown around on a dangerous road with no information about the surroundings

    Patricia_K, Mar 2024
We were en route for some 9 hours being thrown around on a single track bumpy surface. The driver only gave us a little background on the tunnel, otherwise we learnt absolutely nothing about the island, the plants, creatures, it was just 9 hours equivalent to sitting in a tumble drier on full spin. A couple of other trips we crossed did seem to have some driver input.

    The incredible journey.

    John_D, Mar 2024
Spectacular scenery; amazing (though bone-shattering!) ride on what is called a road, but a rich experience nevertheless and a terrific driver/guide. Not for the faint-hearted however! One of the best things I’ve done.

    Bumpy and Scenic Tour

    Dan_B, Mar 2024
The tour was bumpy but the seats were comfortable and cushy and the open air truck bed provided good ventilation. We had a little bit of rain (maybe 15 minutes) but closing the see through side curtains kept us dry. Still, much of it was a rough ride. Our tour guide Eric was very informative, very friendly and made several stops along the way to explain from where various plants came. We also stopped to see a plethora of waterfalls, each one unique in its own way. This private company tour was much cheaper than comparable tours booked through the cruise ship, but the lunch was expensive. We stopped at a restaurant inside the dormant volcano crater. The restaurant only took cash in payment, so my wife and I shared a $25 refrigerated cooked meat hamburger. Even though the meat was cold, it was surprisingly tasty and was supplemented with a good size serving of hot fries. Have adequate cash on hand. The last 45 to 60 minutes of off road was extremely rough. As an indication of how rough it was, my pedometer registered 15,977 steps for the day. I walked a total of about 45 minutes that day, which would account for about 3,000 to 4,000 steps. The rest of the 15,977 were due to bouncing in the truck bed. As a bonus, we met 6 wonderful strangers who shared the ride. I am 74 years old and survived with no soreness or pain the following day. So, if you want to see the outback side of the island, this is a good way to do it, at least once.
