Mount Bromo and Cemoro Lawang can be pretty chilly before sunrise since they’re 2,329 meters (7,641 ft) above sea level,the elevation at the viewpoint is a whopping 2,770 meters (9,088 ft). Temperatures can drop below 7 Celsius (45 F), and that doesn’t even factor in wind chill. It can get incredibly windy on the mountain peaks, and dry season is cooler than rainy season. However, you’ll only be chilly before sunrise. After that it warms up pretty quick, and the sun at this elevation is plenty strong.

Wulan Kapitu (January 17th-18th, 2026), The Silence day (March 19th-20th, 2026), Ecosystem restoration (April 6th -12th) and Kasada (May 31st - June 2nd at 10:00am, 2026). At that time Mount Bromo closed for religious purposes.
Your guide at Bromo and Ijen is a different person
When you decide to see the blue fire, descend 800 meters with steep conditions up to a 45 degree incline, the path to the bottom of the crater will be rocky and narrow.
Mount Ijen usually during the wet season, the volcanic activity near the crack of volcano is rising. If this activity occurs then authorities will close the trail going to the Blue Flame but travellers still have opportunity to enjoy the landscape from Ijen's rim of crater, or if the volcanic activities turn the toxicity of gas into a level of danger, then the authorities will close the entire site for safety reasons. Visiting Mount Ijen/Blue flame means you need to be ready for nature’s unpredictability. There is no guarantee that you will go down the crater/blue fire on the day of your trip, nature is unpredictable and if due to massive sulphur clouds it is too dangerous on that day to go down, you have to respect it for your own safety.
Ijen crater: Distance: 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) return, tour duration 7 hours return, The first 2km is the most challenging, as the road climbs steadily at a 25-35° incline. The next 1 km is flat.

An unforgettable Solo Trip with Viator from Surabaya to Bali

I was travelling under Viator with a 3-day tour from Surabaya to Bali. Due to the time is in the low season, I was the solo traveler in the group. The trip was truly amazing, and I am very satisfied with the services provided by Viator. I was lucky to have days in good weather. The Semu Waterfalls, the sunrise over Mt. Bromo and Mt. Ijen all left me with lifetime great impression. The local guides (Lien, Harry and Soogy) and the driver (Bagus) took a good care of me and helped me on every step of the travel itinerary. They are professional and knowledgeable. And they made my trip smooth, happy and unforgettable. Thanks a lot to Viator and its team!

Wow, what a once in a lifetime experience. Do not hesitate to book this trip unless you are unable to hike. The mornings started very early, but it was extremely worth it to see the breathtaking views, and especially the blue magma. Of course, not everybody will get lucky with the weather, but we did and it was a spectacular trip. Harry (Heri), our guide, was a wonderful guide, super friendly, and extremely informative. He did not feel like he needed to constantly interject during silent times, but was very thorough and helpful during the entire trip. I would Recommend this trip to anyone who is able to hike, especially at high altitudes. Ideally, you will want to leave earliest in the morning, to be the first ones at the site, otherwise it will be too crowded, and you may miss the blue magma. Harry did Great choosing which times we should leave, Even though it felt early in the moment, it was well worth it. I seriously would not think twice, and take this tour again. It was really nice to have a private, and a private vehicle for the entire three days. They also put you up in some pretty nice hotels as well, with breakfast included. The company is very thorough with their directions, and at the end of the trip even offer a person to take you on the ferry back to Bali, And then a driver to take you wherever you need to go on the island. The Bali airport is about 4 hours Away from the ferry port, so beware that you will not be taking a ferry close to downtown Bali, but towards the northwest. It is super convenient though, because they provide a Driver that will take you directly to your hotel. Great tour and great company. Felt safe, secure, and like they were always looking out for our best interests. Don’t hesitate to book, definitely something you want to do if you are in the area and have time.
