Vaxholm Guest harbor (Waxholm gästhamn) Västerhamnsplan, 185 32 Vaxholm, Sweden. The meeting point is the first small red house closest to the yellow car ferry. Parking is very limited in the area and therefore we do not recommend coming by car.

What To Expect

Find your way by bus or ferry from central Stockholm to Vaxholm, a coastal town on the edge of the Stockholm Archipelago. At the ferry port, meet your skipper and transfer to your yacht for the day.

Climb on board to meet the crew and receive a short safety briefing and introduction to the sailboat. Then, set sail into one of Europe's largest archipelagos.

Some of the islands have homes and residents, but many are uninhabited. Take a turn at the ship's helm, then pause for a traditional Swedish fika, or coffee and pastry break. Learn the basics of navigation, the natural history of the area and its flora and fauna from your skipper as you sail.

Stop at a small island for some exploration on foot and a dip in the refreshing water. Enjoy a traditional Swedish lunch.

Spend the afternoon sailing and exploring some of the more remote islands, or checking out the small fishing villages on some of the larger islands. Return to Vaxholm in the early evening and make your own way back to Stockholm.

Lovely day out on the water

My sister and I had an amazing day with Håkan and his partner in the archipelago. Håkan is a great sailing instructor—patient, knowledgeable, and fun. From start to finish, they created such a welcoming and positive atmosphere. They took us to an island with an old bunker, shared fascinating stories about sailing and shared some of Sweden’s history, and served a delicious traditional three-course lunch. It was the perfect mix of adventure, culture, and relaxation. Couldn’t recommend it more, an absolute highlight of our trip!

Sailing through the beautiful archipelago

What a fun experience! Joachim was such a knowledgeable captain, I learned so much about sailing and what it is like to be out on the water. Joachim was calm and patient with us novice sailors as we took a turn at the helm. The trip through the archipelago was customized to the winds and traffic on the water and it was such a unique experience. The scenery was stunning and this was such an impactful way to see the beautiful country of Sweden! This was a truly delightful outing!

This was a really lovely day. Beautiful scenery, interesting chats -as the captain would say “sailing with friends”! And a seal sighting as a bonus. We were very welcomed and despite me having no sailing experience, I was put immediately at ease and at the helm! Lunch and snacks were very tasty too. Highly recommend.

A day sunning at sea

The sailboat's captain and owner was very friendly and encouraged the 4 passengers to get to know one another. We stopped near an island to discern the location of ABBA's cottage, and then later stopped at a different island to explore around, swim, and then have an included lunch served on the sailboat. Lunch was lovely in presentation and delicious as well. On the way back, anyone who wanted to was invited to try their hand at sailing. This trip would be especially fun if you were traveling with people you know as it is a full 8 hours on the boat.

Great experience

It was my first time sailing and got the opportunity to have a full experience thanks to our operator. He took us around the archipielago visiting several sites, we docked in an Island for a nice afternoon lunch and fika and headed back to our pick up point.

We were lucky enough to have just me, my boyfriend and the captain. It was so much fun, regardless the weather wasn't perfect for sailing. It took some time before the wind came. We still got to sail, the food was amazing, the captain was really fun and we had a lot of interesting conversations. It was over all a very relaxing and fun experience.

It was OK. I thought it was very expensive for the actual experience itself, but I guess that's the nature of sailing around in somebody's private boat. I think the company which runs the holiday has several different private boat owners who run the day, so you get whichever boat owner has been allocated for that day. I quite enjoyed it as I like being on water, but might try just getting the ferry-hopping in the archipelago next time. Note: Whatever the weather before you get on the boat, you should be prepared for very stong sun, very strong wind, and cold.

We had a great time with our boat captain. For us it may have been a little more hands on than we expected but it wasn't a problem as there were others who really wanted to learn or help sail. It was a beautiful day and the trip was lovely - maybe an hour too long but again we thoroughly enjoyed it.
