Antonnia, our guide, was amazing! She was so knowledge about the history of Croatian food and she was entertaining too! During our stay we went back to the bakery and prosciutto stall in the Greenmarket we had taken us to, and we were so pleased that we did! Excellent value for money.

I really enjoyed this tour because it was a small group with lots of local stops and then the market at the ends.

You won't need lunch if you take this tour.

Susie_B, Sep 2024
We learned about and sampled Croatian food, so much we didn't need lunch. We also got some information on the history of Split. As a home cook, I appreciated the tips about local foods and how they are prepared

Our guide, Marta, was so great! She was friendly, knowledgeable, eloquent, and fun. The culinary tour was a great way to get a taste of the local food but also of the culture and history around Diocletian’s Palace. And it was such a great price for the experience!

Great food tour with our guide Antonia. She was very knowledgable about the local cuisines and we got to try a variety of traditional foods as well as learn some of the history of Croatia.

Description and overview didn’t match.

Vickie_H, Jul 2023
Summary and tour descriptions don’t match. This is just a nice 1.5 hr food tour. The overview described a 2.5 hr tour including picking your seafood at the market for a meal prepared by a chef.

Great tour.

We loved the fish market and the green market. Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed us soany places we would have never found on out own.

A fun tour of the palace with a twist on local foods. Our guide Tatjana was not only very informative about the local food options but also provided historical and architectural details about the palace. We had a great time!

Delicious

Nice visit to the fish market and vegetable market, where our very knowledgeable guide told us all about the different products available and helped us choose ingredients to be cooked for our lunch. These were then dropped off at a restaurant, we went away for a couple of hours, and came back for lunch. It was a bit disappointing not to see the cooking, but the extremely high quality of the food we received made up for it.

The tour guide was interesting and knowledgeable. The tour started in the fish market and he knew all the various kinds of fish and other seafood and made recommendations for purchase to our group. I found it interesting even though I do not eat fish. We then went to the green market where we were able to purchase sausages and pork tenderloin for the non-fish eaters. The purchase of vegetables was so disorganized. Some were purchasing as a group as they'd purchased fish as a group. Others purchased individually. No one seemed sure of what to get. We then went to the restaurant where the food was to be prepared. The meal was okay. I just expected more. It was a basic cook of whatever you'd purchased. Everyone's vegetable purchase was served all together which was fine but some things never appeared on the table and it was a basic grill. I believe some coordination around the green market purchases and the addition of some sauces or something would benefit this meal. It was nice however to eat with the group and get to know them.

This was a great tour. Our guide, Tanja, was excellent. She was enthusiastic and very knowledgable and helpful. The seafood and vegetable we bought at the market were fresh and delicious. The chefs at the Diocletian Wine House cooked the seafood and vegetables to order. Just be careful you don't buy too much food like we did! Thanks Tanja for a great tour! Monica

Really interesting tour with our expert guide Darko. We learn about Split's history , local culture and cuisine along with popping into a chocolate shop for some delicious morsels to taste. We were guided very well into the types of fish to buy and appropriate vegetables that would show case Dalmatian cooking. Our only criticism would be a little more guidance on the amount needed as we vastly over ordered! The smart restaurant was in the heart of Diocletian's palace and the chef did a great job with our very varied dishes. A really interesting way to see the city and learn more about this beautiful city. We also did a 90 min historical tour the day before and the 2 complemented each other very well and both were enjoyed by our teenage son.

We were a group of 6 and really enjoyed the experience of buying our own produce at the fish market and the green market for fresh veg and salad items to have these ingredients prepared for us back at the restaurant. Our guide Darko was very knowledgeable about Split, it's history and the food. A memorable and unique experience. Ingrid, South Australia

This is the best value of any Split...

Marian H, Aug 2017
This is the best value of any Split tours, first our wonderful guide toured us through the old city and gave a great history lesson, then we visited the fish market where she explained each type of fish and how it was used in Croatian cuisine. Once we chose the fish we wanted for our appy and main course it was on to the farmers market to buy veggies and fruit. I chose monk fish, zucchini, eggplant and a pear. After we had our groceries, it was off to the restaurant where we met with the chef and discussed our meal, with the help of our guide who made suggestions. The kitchen was open so we could keep an eye on the preparation while we sipped a crisp, cold, local white wine. The meal was amazing, scampi in a Croatian sauce, grilled, then my monkfish was served with grilled eggplant and zucchini. The topper was the pear, served poached in cognac and served with a light chocolate sauce. The meal was amazing!! This is the first culinary tour I have done while traveling but I will certainly be watching for more in the future, so entertaining, informative and fun.
