Nice tour, but you have to purchase entry tickets separately.

    Carroll_L, Sep 2025
Boosting the Royal Yacht was nice. The tickets we bought to the Yacht from Tumberbush tours would not work at the entry but the tour guide got it straightened out. This happened on a different tour as well from Timberbush tours and it took that guide several minutes to get it straightened out. So Timberbush needs to work on that part, but at least the guide was there to show that we had in fact paid the entry. The price of the tour didn't include the entry tickets, so they had to be purchased after the tour was booked. Other than that, the tour went well and the guide did areally good job.

    Ticket needed for Yacht...

    SherryK_C, Sep 2025
Ticket needed for Yacht and for the Castle. We chose not to do either. Had to waste time in the mall where ship is docked. Wasted our time.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Sherry, We appreciate your time in leaving a review. Entrance fees to attractions are not included in the tour price, as these are optional extras, which some guests may or may not want to participate in on the day, as stated in the advertised. We understand that not every passenger wants to do the attractions, so we like to give them options to explore the area if they wish to not partake in these optional extras. We hope that despite these issues, we you were still able to enjoy your experience in the Scottish Highlands! Kind regards, Fatima

    Worth a visit

    Dorothea_R, Sep 2025
Really enjoyed our experience overall. Comfy bus. Free time at Edinburgh and Castle was good but Britanica visit was too short. All places worth a visit. Back in plenty of time for our ship.

    Response from Host, Dec 2025

Hi there, Thanks for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that your excursion went well, and that you were able to experience some fantastic spots in the Scottish Highlands during your cruise! We hope we can welcome you back to Scotland soon! Kind regards, Fatima

    Need more time.

    Richard_S, Sep 2025
It is difficult to get through the yacht in the time allowed. The castle was interesting. Our driver/guide, Connor, was very entertaining and informative. He gets 5 stars..

    Response from Host, Nov 2025

Hi there! Thank you so much for your review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your Shore Excursion tour with Connor! His entertaining stories and fantastic facts really make a tour fun! We will be sure to pass your kind words on to him! Thank you so much for your feedback about the length of time you have at the Royal Yacht Britannia! We are sorry to hear that you felt rushed! We do our best to schedule the itinerary so that you can see as many of the sights in Edinburgh as possible while still being able to return to your cruise before its departure time. We hope you were still able to enjoy the tour despite this! We hope we can see you again in the future! Best wishes, Elizabeth

    Happy In Edinburgh!

More info on the time. We lacked the ability to utilize more time due to political rallies, street closings, etc.

    Response from Host, Nov 2025

    Brenda_M, Aug 2025
Connor was very entertaining and knowledgeable. Thoroughly enjoyed his narration! The Royal Yacht Britannia was a special treat. Ate at a fun pub suggested by Connor in Edinburgh—Deacon Brodie’s. Fringe festival was interesting.

    Response from Host, Nov 2025

    Missed the castle tour

    Elizabeth_E, Aug 2025
Tour guide was excellent. We purchased tickets for Edinburgh Castle through Your Shore Time as recommended by Viator and we were unable to exchange our tickets for vouchers so we missed the castle tour after paying for it.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Elizabeth_E, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent shore excursion with us! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your time with the tour guide, but am sorry to hear that you could not join the Edinburgh Castle segment due to issues with the service recommended by Viator. I do hope you were still able to make the most of your time on shore, and if you're ever back in Scotland, that we can take you on another tour! Kind regards, Clara

Very good but on your own

    Jerold_W, Jul 2025
Our guide was very good and it was most important that the tour picked us up at the cruise port, not in Edinburgh. It is important to note that the two main attractions, the Royal Yacht Britannia and the castle, are both on your own.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

Hello, Thank you for your review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your Edinburgh Shore Excursion: City Tour and Royal Yacht Britannia tour. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed learning about our country's amazing history. We hope to see you again soon! Best regards, Paulina.

    Beware if you have...

    Jerald_D, Jul 2025
Beware if you have mobility issues. They say the site are flat surfaces, but what they don’t tell you is that they park the tour bus a lengthy distance from the castle and you are expected to walk to the castle. My partner couldn’t manage it and so we missed out Even though we paid for it.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Jerald_D, Thank you for your review of your Shore Excursion, although I am sorry to hear that you and your partner had issues while on tour. Regrettably, due to limited parking in the city centre, we do have to park further than we would like from the Castle, which means it is a small walk to reach. We appreciate that this meant you could not visit like you had originally planned, and can only apologise that this was the case. I do hope that you were able to enjoy the rest of your time in Edinburgh, and if you are ever back in Scotland, I hope we can take you out on another tour to the rest of the Highlands. Kind regards, Clara

    Disappointing

    Debra_P, Jul 2025
The boat tenders were taking a long time and 12 people who booked the excursion were left. They sent a van to pick us up to meet with the tour at the Royal Brittanica. We had limited time as we were late arriving so did not get to complete the tour they left 5 passengers at that spot who were late to the bus. After that we stopped at Holyrood for 10 minutes to take pictures through the outside gate. Onto the Edinburgh castle where it took us 40 minutes to get in as they couldn’t locate the tickets we purchased. The palace was so crowded there was a line of over a hundred people to see the Crown Jewels and the main room. We were running out of time to meet the bus and were afraid we would be left if we were late for the bus. It then took two hours to drive back to the ship. We had really been looking forward to this excursion as it was my birthday and thought it would be special but it was a stressful and rushed experience. Very disappointing

    Response from Host, Sep 2025

Dear Debra_P, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I am sorry to read that your experience did not meet your expectations, particularly on what was meant to be a special birthday occasion. We always want our guests to feel relaxed and to enjoy their day, so I regret that this tour felt stressful and rushed for you. Cruise excursions are time-sensitive, and as much as we would like to wait until every passenger is able to disembark, doing so would significantly delay the tour and affect the experience of those already on board. For this reason, when tender delays occur, we provide a backup option to collect late arrivals and bring them to the first stop, in this case, the Royal Yacht Britannia, so they can join the rest of the group. I am sorry that you weren’t able to complete your visit at Britannia. Our records do show that the coach stayed longer than scheduled at this stop to give passengers additional time, but I appreciate that it may still have felt limited for you. With regard to the five passengers mentioned, I would like to clarify that they were not left behind; they chose to leave the tour and not continue. Our Reservations Team attempted to contact them several times, but were advised that they would not be returning to the coach. At Edinburgh Castle, the itinerary includes around 2 hours and 30 minutes of free time, which normally allows guests to explore the castle, enjoy the Royal Mile, and have lunch. On this occasion, the group was allowed additional time beyond the usual schedule. I am sorry to hear you experienced such a long wait to collect your tickets. As the castle is one of the most popular attractions in Scotland, peak-season queues can be unavoidable. As your tickets were purchased via a third party and not directly through us, I am unfortunately unable to confirm why there was a delay in locating them, though I understand how this added to your frustration. In terms of the return journey, travelling from the Royal Mile to South Queensferry normally takes 40 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. According to our internal tracking system, the coach departed at 4:18pm and arrived at the port at 4:53pm. I therefore respectfully must clarify that the transfer time was 35 minutes, not two hours. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the guiding, but I am sorry that the day as a whole did not feel as special as you had hoped. We will share your comments internally, as feedback helps us review and refine how we operate tours during busy cruise days. Best wishes, Mark

We had a great day with our guide Adam. Edinburgh is fabulous. Loved the Royal Yacht Britannia and Edinburgh Castle. Had time to have lunch and stop for afternoon tea.

    Edinburgh in a day

    John_D, Jul 2025
Great trip, well organised. They even waited for us whilst we got the tender to shore. Robert our guide was very knowledgeable. The Royal Yacht Brittannia was fascinating and well worth a tour. Unfortunately we could not get in to Edinburgh Castle as it was mobbed with crowds so will have to go another time!

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

    Very good experience

    Eileen_T, Jul 2025
Unfortunately our cruise line cancelled our stop in Edinburgh due to weather so we were not able to do the tour. Timberbush quickly sent a message that they heard of the cancellation and responded shortly after that they were providing a full refund. We were hoping to get 1/2 back if anything so we were more than appreciative. We hope to get to Edinburgh again one day as it was one of stops we were most looking forward to. If we do we will definitely book a tour with Timberbush again.

    Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Eileen, Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review - even if you weren't able to go on tour with us! We understand that it can be frustrating when plans do not go as planned, especially when it is outwith your control. We hope we can welcome you back to Scotland soon so you can join us on a Timberbush Tours soon! Kind regards, Fatima

    Be careful!

    Karen_R, Jul 2025
Our driver left without us. He mixed up passengers and thought we had canceled. We were there an hour early waiting. We had to take and pay for are own transportation to the city where the tour guide met us. But by then our first tour was mostly over and we paid in additional fee for this tour). Wasted $. Next they crammed us on a small bus. We were so uncomfortable we took an uber back to the ship. So we paid double for all of our transportation and really only saw Edinburg castle. Total waste of our money and our day. Never again!

    Response from Host, Sep 2025

Hi Karen_R, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your Edinburgh Shore Excursion. I am sorry to hear about the mix up at the pick up point that meant you had to make your own way to the city. This is not the service we aim to provide and as we are always looking for way to improve our service, I have added this as something to be looked at for improvement. I am sorry that you found our coach to be uncomfortable, we allocate buses based on demand meaning a smaller coach would have been used due to the number of bookings we had. I hope you enjoyed your time at Edinburgh Castle and will be back to see Scotland again soon. Best wishes, Jodie

    Not responsive

    Karen_S, Jun 2025
We did not ever receive a response from the tour guide once we reached out due to the cruise port issue.

    Response from Host, Jun 2025

Dear Karen, Thank you for your review, and I apologise that we missed your communication regarding the cruise port issue! Whenever we have a shore excursion, we're actively monitoring the latest news from the cruise company, the port authority & our passengers as well. We work with the attractions to ensure flexibility in our schedule, and can wait for longer than normal if there are delays with the cruise docking, to ensure people can get on board. That said, I do hope you were able to join the tour without issue, and enjoyed your time in Edinburgh! Kind regards, Clara

    Timberbush Tours Rocks!

    Todd_D, Oct 2024
We went on this tour with Timberbush Tours and would definitely book with them again! We opted for their tour instead of the cruise ship tour and were very happy with it!

    Response from Host, Oct 2024

Hi there, It means so much to hear such positive feedback about our tours, so thank you for taking the time to leave us a review! Please don't be a stranger, we hope to welcome you back on tour with us someday soon! Kind regards, Christie

Connor was an excellent driver and tour guide. His local knowledge was informative and entertaining. The sites we saw and the places we went were very cool indeed. Edinburgh Castle is huge!

    Response from Host, Sep 2024

Hello there, thank you for your review. We are glad to hear that Connor's knowledge of the Highlands made your tour a memorable one! We will make sure to pass your lovely feedback to him! We hope to see you again soon! Best wishes, Cami

Friendly staff, clean coach and very reliable.

    David_S, Aug 2024
This was a good tour with very reliable service if you are interested in round trip transportation to the Royal yacht and the Edinburgh Castle. It would have been improved if there was a guided tour through the highlights of the castle, although that would have incurred a higher tour fee. Our guide did a superb job and was very engaged with all of us during the time we spent together. We were disappointed that the audio system in the bus over modulated (and could not be resolved during the tour) which made it somewhat challenging to understand his valuable comments.

    Response from Host, Aug 2024

Thank you for your review! We are so happy to hear you had a great time, we try and make opportunities for plenty of stops along the way and i am happy to hear your driver guide kept you entertained the whole time. Excellent tour. Really good driver and guide (David & Adam). I would recommend them with no hesitation.

    Response from Host, Aug 2024

We are sure both David and Adam will be happy to hear that you enjoyed your time on tour with them, we will be sure to pass your kind comments onto them. Horrible Experience

    Peter_H, Jul 2024
We have been using Tour Services for over 30 years, this was the worst experience we’ve ever experienced.

    Response from Host, Aug 2024

Hello Peter, We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We take feedback seriously and would like to learn more about what went wrong. Please contact us directly with more details about your experience at tours@timberbushtours.com This will help us address the issues and improve our services. Thank you.

Bus tour very good but could not see the fort or the yacht Completely disappointed

    Prashant_M, Jul 2024
Paid Viator Bus tour very good Could not see the queens yacht or the fort They said sold out Enjoyed the bus ride but was disappointed

    Response from Host, Jul 2024

Dear Prashant, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the bus tour, but sorry to hear that you could not get entry to Edinburgh Castle, or the Royal Yacht Britannia. These are very popular attractions that unfortunately are often fully booked on the day. As such, we make sure to send all passengers who book a link, allowing them to prebook their tickets for these before the tour, and avoid the disappointment you have unfortunately experienced. If you are ever back in Scotland, we would love to take you back out on another Tour! Kind regards, Clara

    Great tour, very well organized

    Patricia_D, Jul 2024
David was our tour guide and Adam was the driver. Both were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It was very interesting to tour the Britannia lots of history there. I could not go inside Edinburgh castle, I waited too late to buy tickets and it was sold out. I had lunch in a cute pub on the Royal Mile. David was always there to meet us and guide us back to the bus. He counted several times to be sure no one was left behind. He even helped taking pictures for us, this was really appreciated since I was travelling solo.

    Response from Host, Jul 2024

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour with David and Adam. It is great to hear that you enjoyed the Royal Yacht Britannia and exploring Edinburgh despite not being able to visit the castle. We will pass on your kind feedback, and would love to welcome you on tour with us again in the future. Best Wishes, Hannah

    Great Tour - Difficult Start

    Doug_S, Jul 2024
This tour is a great way to see Edinburgh. We thoroughly enjoyed the royal yacht, Edinburgh Castle, and the city. Timberbush tours took good care of us, and actually saved us from missing the tour completely. Unfortunately, we were informed of a meeting place for the tour that was 1 mile from the actual meeting place. We booked this tour many weeks in advance, and selected the only Queensferry meeting place available on the Viator pull-down menu, Port Edgar Marina. Our ship's tenders dropped passengers at Hawkes Pier in Queensferry. We got up very early, got a ticket for the first tender, made it to shore, walked 1 mile to Port Edgar Marina, and made it a full one hour before the 9:30AM meeting time. At about 9:20AM, I got a call from Timberbush tours asking us if we were going to make it. I said we've been here for 50 min. They informed me I was at the wrong meeting place, and we needed to be a Hawkes Pier in 15 minutes or they would leave without us. We walked/ran back to the original tender pier, and just made it onto the tour bus before it left. We are big fans of Viator and have experienced many outstanding Viator tours throughout the world. I guess the lesson is to not trust the meeting point published on the Viator site. We will always check with the tour operator in the future.

    Response from Host, Jul 2024

Dear Doug, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour itself, and that we were able to help you make it at all! On our shore excursions, our drivers try to catch passengers as they depart the tender port. If we're missing anyone as we near the final departure time, we try to call all passengers yet to arrive and make sure they aren't lost, or unable to make it. On this occasion, we were thankfully able to get you back onto the bus for the rest of your tour, which I'm glad to hear you enjoyed! If you're ever back in Scotland, I hope we can show you more of the country! Warm regards, Clara

Not recommended unless you are a solo traveler.

    Lily_C, Jun 2024
The tour company had called me five minutes before the departure time to check if we planned to still join the tour and I informed them that we were on the ferry on our way to the port which should arrive within 15 minutes. We arrived to port seven minutes after the departure time, a few minutes earlier than what I had told the tour operator over the phone and saw the Timberbush bus drive past us. I called the tour operator office and they said we can catch up with the tour group by getting to the Yacht Britannia. We took a black taxi there and it seemed to us that getting around Edinburgh in a black taxi/Uber was easily accessible and economical. We decided to spend more time at the Yacht Britannia than the tour itinerary called for and just went off on our own so we won’t be so rushed. We spent a couple of hours at Yacht Britannia and took an Uber to Edinburgh Castle. We spent around four hours at the castle and strolled around the area around the castle. It was lovely. In a way we were happy we missed the tour given the fact we were able to get around fairly inexpensively and on our own schedule though we felt the tour operator should have at least given us a partial refund since they knew we were on our way and were only seven minutes late! If you are traveling with a party of two or more, you will spend less getting to the places mentioned on this itinerary using black taxi/Uber to get to the attractions than paying for this tour.

    Response from Host, Jun 2024

Hello Lily, Thank you for your detailed feedback regarding your Edinburgh Shore Excursion tour. Allow me to elaborate on our operations and the circumstances of your experience. Our shore excursion tours typically depart one hour after the cruise arrival time to accommodate passengers disembarking from the ship or being transferred to the port by tenders. On this occasion, our bus arrived well before the scheduled departure time to ensure we could accommodate early arrivals. Due to tenders arriving slowly, we decided to hold the bus slightly longer than usual. When you were not seen near the departure point, our reservation team called to get an update on your arrival time. You informed us that you were running late and, unfortunately, we could not hold the bus an additional 15-20 minutes as it would not have been fair to the other passengers who were already on board. Additionally, we had a scheduled visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia, and if we were late, the pre-booked tickets would no longer be valid. When you called us again, our reservation team advised that the easiest way to rejoin the tour was at Ocean Terminal, the home of the Yacht Britannia, which is a 35-minute drive from the port. Our tour stops there for nearly two hours, providing ample time for you to catch up. However, it was your independent decision not to join the tour and to continue travelling between attractions by taxi. While we appreciate your comments on moving around the city by taxi, it is important to highlight the benefits of travelling with a tour operator. Our tours are not just about transportation; they provide a guided experience with insights, historical context, and local knowledge that enhance your visit to each attraction. Our driver guides are trained to offer engaging commentary and ensure a seamless, enjoyable journey. Additionally, tours are carefully timed and planned to maximise your experience, including pre-booked entry to popular sites, which can save time and ensure availability. We understand you may not be satisfied with your experience, but we did everything we could to help you join the tour. Unfortunately, we could not wait any longer without negatively affecting the tour itinerary and other passengers. Despite this negative experience, we hope you had a great time in Scotland and enjoyed your cruise. Best wishes, Mark

A superb full day guided tour by a great driver/guide

    Roger_S, Jun 2024
A great day with our guide and driver Graeme who was brilliant. After visiting the Royal Yacht (a fascinating audio guided tour) we headed to the castle and Royal Mile. The castle was fully booked so we walked down the Royal Mile, grabbed lunch in Deacon Brodie's Tavern and looked in St Giles Cathedral which was superb. We were then picked up at the castle and treated to a further tour round the centre of Edinburgh by Graeme before being dropped back to catch the shuttle back to the ship. We can thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone.

    Response from Host, Jun 2024

Hi there - thanks for the review! We're glad you had a wonderful time on your shore excursion, and you got to see some of Edinburgh's great spots! We hope we can welcome you back to Scotland again soon! Kind regards, Fatima

    Disappointment i Edinburgh

    Daniel_K, May 2024
There were no memorable parts to this tour as the tour bus left before we got on shore from our tender boat. The tour started at 9:30 am, the bus waited 10 minutes and then departed a 9:40 am, we got off the tender at 9:45 am. We phoned the office of Timberbush Tours and they advised that they have a schedule to keep We had booked another tour through Trip Advisor in Dublin. The bus driver waited 1 1/2 hours for all guests to arrive at the bus. He advised that he would have to cut some of the visits a little bit to get back to the ship on time. There is no reason that Timberbush Tours could noy have done the same

    Response from Host, Jun 2024

Hi Daniel, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, we always appreciate feedback of any kind. As stated in your booking confirmation we require all passengers to arrive 15 minutes prior to the tours departure to check in, almost all other passengers managed to catch Tender boats and make the tour. Whilst we appreciate your frustration, we still waited an additional 10 minutes for you to make your tour. The tour departed at 9:40am meaning you were actually 30 minutes late. Whilst we wait additional time for passengers who run late, we believe it should not impact the experience of other passengers who ensured they were at the meeting point on time. We hope you still enjoyed seeing our beautiful City and wish you a pleasant time on the rest of your travels. Kind regards, Sophie

    Great tour Edinburgh

The tour was well done in terms of the guide being very descriptive about the historical information relevant to the areas we were in.
