A wonderful way to learn about the amazing history of the area. Our guide, Isreal, was a walking history lesson!
Cindy_Z, Jan 2026
Tour: We had a great experience on this trip. Our guide was very organized and was so knowledgeable about the site and regional history that he really made it vivid and memorable. We learned so much and had a great time exploring the site. Like every good tour, it left us wanting to learn more! We were also lucky enough to see some of the beautiful horses that roam the area. Highly recommend this tour while you’re in the area.
The pace was good for reasonably fit persons.
Site: Restroom is available at the site entrance only. You will not be able to carry in bags of any sort. There are secure lockers to leave your bags at the entrance. Uphill and downhill walking on uneven terrain and cobblestones, nothing extreme. Opportunity to climb to the top of the central building and take in the entire view (optional).

Alex was a great guide! Very knowledgable and friendly. He picked us up at the designated location in a car, and then drove us to the site where we boarded a bus. The site is really beautiful. The walk to the site is a little steep in places, but the scenery makes the walk enjoyable. Look for the leaf-cutter ants!

Highly recommended archeological excursion while in San Miguel! Horacio was very friendly and knowledgeable. Be prepared for lots of stairs, but otherwise not a challenging hike. The pyramid and site are can't miss!
Thelma_D, Jan 2026
The drive and walk to the site gives a chance to see the country side and view of the mountains from the ranch the site is located on. The pyramid itself is magnificent and the adjacent garden is fascinating but what really made the whole trip was the guide, Horatio, who was so well informed and funny.
Michael_B, Jan 2026
Our guide Horacio was informative and entertaining. And while the pyramid complex might not be as grand as the one at Teotihuacan, the experience here benefits from the limited number of people who are allowed at the site at one time and the lack of commercialism.

We booked a tour with a guide who had been one of the excavators but we ended up with a guide who wasn’t very knowledgeable. The guide told us that the original guide had died. So, understandable that there had to be a sub but we should have had the opportunity to select a guide with more information to share.

Israel was the best guide! Super knowledgeable about the archeology, and bonus that he knew a lot about indigenous food and drinks. Pickup was easy and on time. The hike is not difficult, but may be a lot if you are not active. Definitely recommend!

Pick up was at the noted location and very prompt. The driver was very friendly and courteous and was a great driver. He was also a tour guide and had a lot of knowledge about the pyramids and was patient and supportive of everyone. He’s not the one that the tour Says will be giving the tour- apparently that person passed away earlier this year. But we thoroughly enjoyed his tour.

Mr Coffee was fabulous-we learned so much! Be advised - this is ALOT of uphill walking on uneven ground and the sun is strong! Sunscreen is a must.

They cancelled our trip.. we decided to take an uber their thinking we could but tickets and just go on our own. But you can’t. You have to reserve your time. We ended paying over 70.0O dollars just for transportation and couldn’t get tickets.

The archaeologist died in March. They haven’t changed the tour name.
The company never sent a confirmation message. They didn’t reply to my message the day before about whether to bring lunch. They didn’t respond to my message the morning of the tour.
I had to call Viator myself, and they got ahold of the American who runs the company now. Eric said he had a logistical issue with my tour and they could be at the meeting place 70 minutes late. We had no other options, so we agreed.
At this point, I was concerned so I looked at recent Viator ratings. One said that Arthur had died, so I WhatsApped Eric to ask if there was another archaeologist to tour us. He didn’t text me back; he called so as not to leave a record. At this point, I understood that he had left the name “archaeologist led” on this tour as fraud intentionally and told him.
Horacio arrived 70 minutes late, and he told us that the logistical issue was that no one asked him to tour us until 9:30 am when our appointment was at 9. Horatio have a good tour in good English, but he was no archaeologist and didn’t hold himself out as one.
Eric, the manager of the business is a dishonest flake. Go with another tour provider.

We’re not happy with this particular tour. Our guide was fine, although we found out later that he wasn’t the expert archeologist who was originally touted in the tour description. Then, I got a call from Eric Fash through our guide telling me that my money was refunded to my credit card & could I send him the payment via Zelle. Another guest on the tour told me that he also had the money refunded. I am concerned that I will not receive the $15 of Viator rewards I was supposed to receive, since payment was not made to your company. I eventually did pay Eric via Zelle, although not the full amount due to the fact that Viator’s cut wasn’t included. I paid him $210 instead of the original $243 as posted.

Guide was kind and knowledgeable. Tour was thorough and informative. You also get to see some beautiful landscapes during the tour. Would highly recommend!
Janet_H, Mar 2025
Sadly, Albert Coffee, the well-loved guide for this tour was hospitalized for weeks and then passed away. But neither Trip Advisor or Viator informed us that the tour was cancelled, not before or after!
James_M, Feb 2025
I throughly enjoyed this excursion. Our guide had an excellent command of the history, culture and botany of the site.
His personal experience with regard to the unearthing and early exploration of the site provided a unique insight into Mexico’s rich and diverse history.
Holly_K, Feb 2025
I’d done this tour with my family 10 years ago and again yesterday with friends. We loved it both times.
Albert does a fabulous job of sharing great amounts of information and stories in an easily digestible way. We highly recommend this tour to all who love learning about historical cultures and want to see a beautiful bit of ancient history firsthand.
Charles_F, Jan 2025
Guide was extremely knowledgeable. It needs to be mentioned in the description of this tour that there is a lot of walking on some-what challenging paths.
Sara_B, Jan 2025
Our archaeologist guide Dr Coffee was fantastic — a ton of facts about the site. It was especially nice that he had worked on the site himself. Funny delivery, we really enjoyed him.
Artemis_A, Jan 2025
Outstanding, informative and patient. Thank you so much. The guides knowledge was very insightful as well.
Barbara_A, Jan 2025
It was so informative. Albert was a wealth of knowledge and has a good sense of humor and even though it was cold and windy and many of us were uncomfortable, including him, he gave it his all. The pyramid ruins were fascinating, the bus ride up to the ruins was short and smoothe and the walk not too difficult but I advise you check the weather report before booking! Great tacos afterward and by then the sun came out!
Lindsey_J, Jan 2025
Incredibly knowledgeable tour guide. The site was interesting. Don’t skip the tacos at the visitors center.
Dana_B, Jan 2025
Unfortunately we did not get to go on the tour. We tried to communicate with the tour operator a day ahead of time that we had an issue preventing us getting to the meeting place on time. We estimated 30 minutes but were in fact 20 minutes late on the day…. Tour operator did not respond to written messages and phone number contact listed was not in service. We also asked to Uber ourselves to the site to join the group, but again there was no response. Viator customer service informed us that tour operator waited 15 minutes before departing. If you book this tour, I would say to get there early and expect no response whatsoever from this tour operator should you have any questions or issues. He is not reachable or responsive, like other tour operators from our experience.
Angela_H, Dec 2024
The archeological site was very interesting and informative. The tour operators were unorganized and stingy. They transported us to the archaeological welcome center in cramped small taxis, four tourists per taxi without air conditioning and with strangers. At the site, we boarded a bus without air conditioner and not enough seats for everyone. Viator said that we will get transportation with air conditioning and water, none of which was available for us.
Mary_K, Dec 2024
A lot of walking over stony ground, pretty high altitude. Not many stairs until you get to the pyramid. I elected not to climb it, my knees don’t care for stairs. Good talk, pretty rushed go through the museum.
Ian_I, Dec 2024
The site is spectacular. The amount of information needed to be conveyed by the guide to give it context is huge. Our guide Christian did a fine job.
It might be ideal to visit the archeology museum the day before.
joanie_b, Nov 2024
Outstanding experience. The guide is Informative, engaging, with outstanding public-speaking skills. He touched on so many items of interest that we are seeking links to his publications. Beautiful setting and pleasant walk around the site. Highly recommend the tour. Tasty tacos on-site after the tour. His website references longer tours that seem very appealing.
Lisa_M, Nov 2024
The site itself was amazing. We were not impressed by having to squeeze into a small car with two fairly large people. The tour guide seemed knowledgeable; however, he did not speak with any inflection. More like a robot on auto drive. But it was cool to see and overall a good time. I would recommend.
Wing_H, Oct 2024
Albert was our tour guide. He gave us a lot of information about the site. He told us the history how the site was donated to the Mexican government, the plants, source of material of different layer of the pyramid, the color of different layers. He also explained how the pyramid used to measured the time in each period. He provided professional knowledge based on his expertise.
