This is a great half-day trip, very easy from Oaxaca Center. The tour guide did a great job of sharing Zapotec and Aztec history, which I particularly enjoyed. It's a nice cultural experience that shows a lot of regional pride.

Fantastic Day!

Great tour :: Great guide, Angel :: Interesting throughout the whole trip :: Fantastic Experience :: Would recommend Tour company contract w/ a better restaurant - only less-than wonderful part of the tour.

A Magical, Memorable Day (not Half-Day for me)

Boston_B, Feb 2026
I had the option to extend to the full day, and I'm so glad I did. I learned so much about Zapotec culture and craft. Angel is a gifted guide, who appreciated my interest in the Underworld mythology surrounding the "Temple of Rest", and we had a wonderful discussion about the possible themes encoded into the architecture. The weaving demonstration was also incredible, witnessing the treatment, spinning, and weaving of the wool--not to mention the the dyes and their origins. The mezcal tasting was where the group really started to interact, because mezcal. I was already a mezcal aficionado, but know I'm a more knowledgeable one. Extending the day took me to Herve de Agua. Just go for it. It's an incredible natural phenomenon, something that will live in my memory for the rest of my life, as permanent as the feature itself. It was a scorching hot day, and swimming in the cold pools was a welcome relief. (I didn't bring a swimsuit, since I hadn't planned on this part but was able to buy one there for $120 MXN.) I finished the day in deep conversation with a new friend I met on the tour, over a cold mezcalita. The day was 10/10.

A perfect half-day tour from Oaxaca

Susan_F, Jan 2026
This was a good tour...not as important as Monte Alban, but worthwhile, nonetheless. Our guide, Miguel, was great. Had excellent command of both Spanish and English and had a lot of information to share.

Mitla Tour

Blair_A, Jan 2026
Angel, our tour guide was fantastic. He was one of the very best tour guides we have had, and we have had many. His command of the subject matter was superb and his general knowledge about contemporary Mexico was also great. His English skills were also superb.

Half day tour to Mitla, Tule, Teotitlàn

James_P, Jan 2026
Fun half day with 3 stops. First stop at Santa Maria del Tule, a cute little town with a huge old tree in the town square. Second stop at a textile workshop and store. Very interesting explanation of the process of indigenous blanket weaving. Third stop at the Mitla architectural ruins. Easy to navigate and very interesting. Finally, buffet lunch with the entire group. Really good Mexican food, especially for a buffet. Our guide, Angel, was well versed and extremely bilingual, friendly and explained everything very well. 100% recommended

Angel is excellent!

Julian_E, Jan 2026
An excellent experience from pick up to return. Angel is a most informative and engaging tour guide.

1/2 Day Ideal Tour

Katie_M, Nov 2025
Our 1/2 day tour was very informative about indigenous history, a great education about the native weaving process, and interesting architectural details about the ruins in the area. Angel provided the perfect amount of information without overwhelming everyone with details. He was very personable with a fun sense of humor. The 1/2 day trip is ideal for those who don’t want a long day of touring.

Mita, yes go

Fred_N, Nov 2025
Angel was a wealth of information and was very enthusiastic about the sites. We loved the textile visit to someone's home.

No Regrets

Jacqueline_R, Nov 2025
Half day was the perfect amount for us. It was awesome to meet a family that weaved rugs and had a chance to buy directly from them. The Milta ruins were awesome because it was nice to have a tour guide, but then enough time to explore on our own. The buffet food at the end was amazing! Can’t recommend this tour enough.

Great tour and value

Claire_A, Nov 2025
Great half day tour, our guide Angel was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and we learned a lot. There was about 12 total people in the tour.

Great way to see multiple sights in half a day.

Lauren_T, Oct 2025
This was a great way to see a few sights without spending the entire day. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that our van was older and our seats were dirty, and it seemed like there could have been more to see at Mitla ruins. It was a fairly quick stop given what seemed like there was to see. However, our guide was great!

Great Visit to Tule and Mitla

Leticia_F, Sep 2025
The tour to Mitla included a stop at Tule tree, to a family of weavers and a great buffet lunch. Overall it was very pleasant and informative. The only complaint is that the tour organizers did not communicate to confirm the time of the pick up (which other tour organizers did the day before for a different tour) so that we could plan and wait outside our hotel.

Exceeded expectations

Allyson_M, Aug 2025
Angel was extremely knowledgeable and did a really nice job switching between Spanish and English. I especially liked the textile / rug making demonstration and being able to purchase a rug from the family.

An outstanding Day in Mitla

Steven_C, Aug 2025
A great trip from Oaxaca to get insight into the countryside. Mitla ruins were interesting but smaller than Monte Alban. When you book be sure to request Ángel. Perfectly fluent in Spanish and English and his depth of knowledge was incredible.

Angel our guide tour was very friendly and informative! Enjoyed our activity its was fun! The places were amazing

Exceptional experience

Margaret_J, Jun 2025
The journey there is interesting as you pass through many acres of agave fields. Beautiful mountain scenery. The El Tule tree is magnificent. Know that you will have to pay MX$100 to actually get close to the tree. The gardens surrounding it are magnificent. Next stop Teotitlán de Valle for a presentation by the Gutierrez family (four generations) of how the beautiful hand spun and dyed wool is made into rugs, table runners , pillow covers, etc are made. Large gallery of beautiful items to buy. Next stop Mitla. Amazing place. Our guide, Angel, spoke great English and was very educated and knowledgeable about all aspects of the area. His father is a guide as well and he fell in love with sharing the history of the region. A Oaxacan lunch buffet, an extra MX$200, allows you to try local food. Well worth having a tour and guide. A truly enjoyable and amazing experience.

What a wonderful way to spend the day! Angel, our tour guide, was incredibly knowledgeable. This was a great experience - would definitely recommend!

Insightful peek into local ancient history

Holly_F, Apr 2025
It’s the little tidbits of information you carry away with you that make this experience remarkable and memorable. Angel is a very kind human—interesting in his oratory and interested in what we take from the experience. Highly recommend.

Great day!

Peggy_P, Mar 2025
Don’t miss it! Totally worth it. Our guide, Angel, was very knowledgeable and well spoken. We enjoyed ourselves.

Great tour

Roger_J, Jan 2025
We took both the Mitla and Monte Alban tours through Lescas and were extremely happy we did. The tour guides Miguel and Angel were fantastic. Their knowledge was detailed and very well presented. We took the English tours and both guides are extremely fluent and easy to understand. I also like the positive presentation style. I recommend any tour from either Miguel or Angel.

Excellent tour for the price!

Tanya_K, Nov 2024
Good communication with tour manager. Great transportm, excellent bilingual Spanish-English guide. Wonderful sites and great place for lunch.

Soul of Oaxaca

Andres_F, Nov 2024
Well organized and accommodating. Knowledgeable and a variety within a half day tour. Tour were great, too.

Must see Mitla with a guide!!

Glen_M, Nov 2024
Seeing the Mitla Zapotec ruins with a guide was the only way to see them. Or guide Angel have us indepth knowledge on the archeology of the site as well as lots of other information on the people and their culture. At one time, we heard Angel speaking in 3 languages as he was translating English and Spanish and then Zapotec for some of the indigenous people living around Mitla. Highly recommend.

Perfect Little half day tour

Vanessa_M, Nov 2024
Good organized Tour and Angel was a great guide. We loved the stop at Teotitlan and Mitla. Tule was in our eyes overrated but it was part of the programm so it did not bother us.

Mitla half day tour with Angel

Van_N, Jul 2024
Pickup was easy from our hotel. It was a full sprinter van with driver and guide. Nice vehicle, a/c, comfy, good driving. We saw Tule tree, textiles, and Mitla on our half-day tour. Got a ride back to town with our guide and a separate driver while the arrest of the group moved on to hierve de agua. Angel was a fantastic guide. We'll rehearsed, great tour flow, smoothly transitioning between English and Espanol. Kind of a great language learning experience. He's also a great personal conversationalist. Tule and Mitla were honestly impressive. Tule is worth the additional ticket to get closer. The textile workshop was great. Walked us through the wool and natural pigment processing. Half day tour was honestly perfect for us, giving is half the day to cool down from all the info before the next tour.

Enjoyable in all respects

Elizabeth_D, Jun 2024
Very well-organized and professional. From the door-to-door transportation to the local textile workshop and the Mitla visit, all was really seamless. Thank you.

Mitla Half Day Tour - more than half-day

Colleen_V, May 2024
This was a bilingual tour. The guide was incredibly personable and knowledgeable. That said, there were only 3 of us English-speaking people in the group. The rest all spoke Spanish. My Spanish-speaking skill is a bit limited, but it became evident pretty soon that some of the details were missing in the English translation. This was especially so with any of the question and answer exchanges. It was also evident that the tour was actually comprised of several us who had actually booked different tours! I expected a half-day tour, expecting to be in Mitla in the morning while it was a bit cooler. I ended up with the group at the Tree of Tula, then the textile educational place, then the Mezcal tasting, all before getting to Mitla. We apparently only “toured” a small portion of Mitla (according to friends who have been when we compared notes). We then stopped for the buffet lunch before finally getting a ride back to town. While all was certainly pleasant and educational, it was not what I expected nor frankly what I was prepared and interested in doing. Everyone associated with the tour was beyond friendly and engaging, as were my fellow tour participants. I would definitely book a Viator tour in the future - I just know now to be a bit more inquisitive to assure I’m on the right tour and know what to expect.
