A wonderful way to experience beautiful Oman!

This 5-day private Oman tour with our guide Khalil Aljaberi is truly a wonderful experience. We enjoyed all the beautiful sights of nature such as the Wadis and the Jebels, the magical sites of Omani culture and history like the Aflaj, forts and castles, and the colourful modern life in the Nizwa Souq and Old town. It was great fun to experience and learn about these from Khalil who had so many interesting stories to share - in particular, his love of and expertise about dates growing were simply infectious. Khalil adjusted the schedule of the activities to suit our interests and travel time, and also the weather: with our tour being in hot July, he moved some of the activities to the evening even though he had to work longer hours. Thanks Khalil, for all your hard work and considerate arrangements! The special five days we spent with you will stay in our memory at the top of our favourite travel experiences. Adding the highly proficient advice and courteous response from Sunshine Tour staff right from our first enquiry about the booking to the tour itself, we can strongly recommend this tour!

Don't go during Ramadan !

We were told we would be able to purchase alcoholic drinks ( during Ramadan) at hotels that cater to westerners. NOT SO. We could not go to ANY restaurants or coffee shops. We only ate at our hotels or in the car which was not pleasant. We would never have booked during Ramadan had we known. Our driver was good and informative and his english was excellent. We enjoyed everything we saw. But our experience was diminished and could easily have been avoided had we been told the truth. We could have at least brought something along to put in juice. Having a drink in the evening is part of a vacation for us and it was a rude awakening that this was not possible for the 5 days. We feel the travel agents were dishonest not to tell us in order to get our booking.

Exciting experiences every day

Our guide Khalfan showed us a wonderful country we did not know much about. Every day was filled with new discoveries and exciting experiences. He is very knowledgeable, an excellent driver and went out of his way to give us a memorable Omani experience. This tour shows a good cross section of Oman, its history, nature and people. We recommend it to anyone! Bring respectful clothing and an open mind.

This review is quite overdue, but I need to share it nonetheless since our experience was so fantastic and memorable. I (30yo) and my father (68yo) traveled to Oman and weren't totally sure what to expect. Fortunately, Qambar and Sunshine Oman exceeded our expectations. Traveling with Qambar felt like traveling with a family member or close friend (but of course with the immense knowledge of a local). He made us feel comfortable and welcomed. For swimming in one of the Wadis I was allowed to wear a bikini, while for another one it was prohibited, and Qambar brought it up to me in the most respectful and non-awkward manner, which I really appreciated! In addition to the spots on the itinerary, he took us to a variety of lunch spots that were authentic and absolutely delicious. The 5-day tour was well planned so we could experience the beautiful and varied landscape of Oman: the seaside, the desert, and the mountains. We got to interact with many locals (without feeling pressured to buy things, although we did buy some things!) and observe the Omani wildlife. Overall, we had the most wonderful time, and would highly recommend this tour!

It was a wonderful tour showing so many aspects of this amazing country. Each day had its own highlight on itinery. Our special thanks go to our guide Yahya al Jabri who enabled this marvelous trip. First day was the way from Muscat south- east to Sur and Ras al Had, visiting a very deep sinkhole wher you can swim (or not) then along the coast passing White Beach where you can see turtles swiming from above the shore. Later we visited Wadi As Shab (a beautiful hike about 45 minutes oneway to a pond where you can swim). The hike is a bit tricky with al lot of stones polished by the water and thousends of feet. After this we came to Wadi Tiwi an other beautiful but wider Wadi. The night you spend in Turtle Beach Hotel from wher you can start a night excursion to see turtles coming to the beach digging a nest and laying eggs (an absolute highlight). Second day visting Sur and environment includig a castle, the fishmarket and a dockyard for traditional dhous. After Sur we went inside the country to visit the desert with huge dunes and saw a beautiful sunset from above the dunes. Overnight was at White Oryx Camp where you can see some white Oryx which only live in freedom in the deep south of Oman (unfortunately the enclosure is much too small). The camp is a perfect stay and the desert is a highlight, especially with the sunset, Day 3 showed us some historic villages (Al Minzifah, later Birkat al Mawz) and the old prehistoric tower tombs of Zukait. The old irrigation systems of channels lea-ding the water from the mountains to the villages and the plantations of dade palms. Then we went up in the mountains up to a height of 2100m on the Sayq Plateau with breathtaking views of mountains with diferent layers of stones an sediments, with a short hike to a little village (Al Ayn) with terrassed rose gardens. Spending the night in Nizwa. Day 4 showed the Fort of Nizwa and the Souq, which is very clean and has plenty of shops for every taste. It`s a good opportunity to búy spices, dades, handicraft, silverware and the famous daggers (Khanjar). The Fort is a second highlight. After that we visited two old villages ( Al Misfah and Al Hamra with a little museum showing the living of the people in the former times). Then we went up in the mountains again to Jebel Shams wich is about 3000 m above sealevel with tremendous views in to the deep canyons. Overnigt was in Sama Hights Resort an excellent 4* Resort with al comfort in the nature. Day 5 went back down from the mountains passing Fort Bahla the biggest Fort in Oman an Jabreen Castle, both fully worth the visit. on the way we visited a pottery with tradional working manners, a very interesting stop over. Finally we reached Muscat again, the end of this wonderful journey throgh so many different views of Oman. Our special thanks go to our guide Yahya al Jabri, a honest, friendly and intellegnt man who enabled all these impressions and made the journey really comfortable. He fulfilled all our wishes and was always in a good mood. He enabled the connections with the local people and at the end of the journey we were good friends. Again thank you a lot Yahya. Thomas K.

We had five days tour which is a great experience, highly recommend. It covered sea, mountain, desert, all of the sites are amazing. Special thanks to our guide Hussein Al Hamdani. He is professional, friendly, easygoing and very knowledgable. He introduced and explained a lot , not only about the sites but also daily life, local culture, etc. he speaks good English, and same importantly a safe and skilled driver. 😉
