Overview
Canal cruises tend to come with dry commentary, which can make an hour on the water drag. This one keeps things entertaining, narrated by comedian Dave Spikey, of "Phoenix Nights" and "8 Out of 10 Cats," whose recorded tour walks through Skipton's history and the story of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal with jokes alongside the facts. Food and drink are served on board, and the trip runs whatever the weather.
- Explore North Yorkshire without getting footsore as you travel by canal boat
- Learn as you travel with entertaining guide commentary
- Great for photography fans—access uncrowded countryside views
- Ideal for travelers with limited time—see many sights around an hour

I was very surprised about the host. Very cool and made funny moments. Plenty jokes to remember and a very nice way of storytelling.

Hello, we booked and arrived but the tour was cut short due to a problem with one of the gates - we were given the option to get our money back or re-book. I was told I could call later and let them know, mainly because I wanted to rebook but didn't have our schedule so I wanted to check it first. Anyway, my husband went back to the office and advised them that we wanted a refund as we would not be able to take the trip. The girl at the desk said she would let someone know. We have yet to receive our refund (this was in August 2025). Can you please respond? Dickinson is the last name.
Excellent fun commentary with local information while cruising along the canal.
Boat crew well organised & full safety information given.
Really pleasant trip. Other passengers were of all ages from young children to older people. Onboard toilet & bar. Highly recommended!
Great experience with very funny guide. Just a chilling re;axing cruise along the Leeds/Liverpool canal. Well worth it.
Lovely cruise my boys really enjoyed . Loved the commentary funny and knowledgeable. Nive to be able to enjoy a nice wine onboard too.
Fab trip down the canal. Great commentary that will have you in stitches. Highly recommend this even if it's a rainy day.
Well worth the money for experience and the commentary. It was a pity we weren't able to experience a lock!
Great commentary from tour guide & other crew members were very friendly. Boat left & returned on time.
Enjoyed the whole experience although I did not like the allocation of seats. We purchased the tickets several months earlier and were close to the front of the line but did not get the opportunity to sit near the front. (You also need to update your brochures since the meeting place on them no longer exists).
Very worthwhile trip. Thanks so much.
The trip was fantastic and very interesting, unfortunately there was some people on there that didn’t like having an excited 4 year with them
Missed by half hour due to travel delays and app wouldn't allow time slot changes. Will not reorder again.

We don't have an app for our company. It seems like you are reviewing the Viator app or whichever 3rd party you booked with on the wrong page. Maybe that's why you were unable to switch your ticket. I would always recommend emailing the company directly or calling them.
We had a thoroughly good time. The information we received was very useful. The staff were very helpful as my mum and I have mobility problems.
Took my mum out for the day with the canal biat trip as the focus.
Fun and informative commentary. Pleasant staff. Relaxing hour, pretty views.
The boat was clean, the staff were polite, informative, funny and helpful. Safe environment and beautiful smooth ride and experience. Was a surprise trip for my partner and he loved it.
Family trip with kids aged 8 and 12 during Easter hols. All families were seated on benches with consecutive numbers but were diagonally opposite due to the way row numbers worked. Frustrating! The commentary by some famous guy was not very engaging and you had to have that sense of humour to get it. The kids were bored so for £30+, it would have been more enjoyable to walk, even in the rain. Wouldn't really recommend, sorry!
We got to the boat and then boarded. We had rang before hand to ask if we could bring dogs and where told yes. Where we sat on the boat had very little leg room, so therefore it was not big enough for 2 adults and 2 middle sized dogs. We were very disappointed with the trip. We thought it was not worth the £9.50 each that we paid. We had travelled 1 & half hours for this trip. We won't be going on it again!
Very informative history narrative on the boat, wish the trip had been longer but appreciate 1 hour would be enough for the kids
Relaxing scenic trip with hilarious commentary! Suitable for all ages - we were on a hen weekend and it started the afternoon off perfectly. Very friendly staff.
Not so good experience, canal was too dirty for a memorable boat trip with insects flying inside the boat, but anything works after staying at home for so long.

Thanks for taking the time to review our business. There are many things that we can control, however the canal water is not one of them. Our local canal which was built in 1770 supports a vibrant and diverse eco system and has many users from fisherman to other boaters. If you were expecting a clear glass view through the water of a working canal that is over 200 years old, we are sorry to disappoint. Perhaps a boat trip in the Caribbean or Maldives would better suit you.
In terms of insects flying into the open windows, we ask that all passengers have tickets when they’re on board. Clearly, the bugs didn’t get the message about that. Although the sun was shining and it was a lovely day, you could have closed your window at any moment. I have a feeling however, if the window was closed, that would have appeared as a complaint in your review as well. Hope you find an experience that better suits your needs in the future!
Fantastic boat trip and very friendly staffs . The interesting point, is the time of trips are flexible and if you miss your trip you can take the next without extra cost
Thanks for the crew
