I had an amazing day exploring Akagera National Park with my guide, Samuel. My tour started in Kigari at 8 a.m. and I spent nearly six hours immersed in the park’s stunning landscapes and wildlife.
Thanks to Samuel’s deep knowledge of the park and his sharp eye, I was lucky enough to spot elephants, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, hippos, baboons, impalas—and even lions, albeit from a distance. He knew exactly where to go and positioned the vehicle perfectly at various viewpoints to maximize every wildlife sighting.
Samuel’s expertise and calm, friendly demeanor made the entire experience smooth, safe, and incredibly rewarding. Highly recommended for anyone looking to discover the beauty and biodiversity of Akagera!

We enjoyed the Safari, but do understand that it is going to be a very long day. Our Guide picked us up early and it was about 2 1/2 hours drive to the park, stopping along the way for a clean restroom and snack break.
The boat ride was first, where we saw hippos, baboons, and lots of birds. Then we made our way from the south end of the park all the way up through to the north end. We saw zebras, giraffes, one elephant, white AND black rhinos, lots of Cape Buffalo, impalas, waterbuck, warthogs, and some things I’m sure I am forgetting.
Yes, the roads are terrible within the park, but that’s all part of the experience. They call it an African massage lol.
The drive back was closer to four hours because again you exit through the north end of the park. I really enjoyed the rides to and from the park because you got to see so much of the Rwandan people and their customs/culture. It was fascinating to see how they carry things on their heads, even the small children. And crazy how many things they can carry on a bicycle!
Our guide was very nice, always checking to make sure we had everything we needed, and communicated with other guides to be sure we saw all the animals that were nearby.
We recommend this Tour. I would suggest that you just order from the restaurant within the park, though our sandwiches in our boxed lunch were good too (but our cokes were warm by the time we got to eat lunch).

My safari in Akagera National Park was one of the highlights of my trip to Rwanda. The park is beautiful, and we were fortunate to see an incredible variety of wildlife throughout the day, including giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, and many other animals.
A special thank you to Moses, who was an outstanding guide. He was knowledgeable, professional, and clearly passionate about Rwanda’s wildlife and conservation efforts. He made sure everyone had a great view of the animals and shared interesting information throughout the tour.
The day was very well organized, from the early hotel pickup to the game drive itself. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kigali and looking for an unforgettable safari experience.

Had an amazing time in Rwanda and this safari was the highlight. Denys was a great guide and knew all the best spots to see the animals. Additionally, the boat ride was well worth the price. The provided meal was also very good. Overall a great experience and the highlight of my trip.

My guide, Denys, was wonderful. He drove extensively around the national park where we saw a variety of animals
Unfortunately, we were unable to find a lion but seeing a giraffe and a zebra in close proximity was truly unreal!
We also saw crocodiles, hippos and tropical birds on the boat trip.
Kudos must go to Denys and the tour group on the smooth handling and professionalism of organising this trip.

It was my first time on a safari, and so I would say it was an amazing experience as a first-timer. Our guide was pleasant company to be with. We had breaks in between to grab breakfast, lunch, and stretch. The only downside was that we didn't get to see all the BIG 5 animals - even though the weather was great and all. Nonetheless, the tour guide tried his best to get as close to the animals we did spot. Book with them if you are ever looking for a safari guide in Rwanda!

You're in for a wild ride, LITERALLY. My group of 8 enjoyed our Safari immensely. If we had the time, we would have gone again. We had two drivers. My driver was Kevin, ASK FOR HIM BY NAME! As we drove through Kigali he pointed out many things and gave us a history lesson. Then, at the park due to his diligence we were about to see many animals! I would love to visit again and I would book with Afri Safaris. These are some of the animals we saw

Our Akagera safari was a fantastic experience and one of the highlights of our trip to Rwanda. It was a long day, but well worth it—we saw so many incredible animals, including giraffes, lions, elephants, hippos, zebras, and more.
The tour was smooth and well-organized. Our driver, Samuel, got us everywhere safely and on time, and we really appreciated the effort to cover so much of the park. It’s a beautiful place, and the wildlife was truly unforgettable.

A wonderful day, worth the early morning start. The drive to Akagera National Park was just as great to take in as the game drive itself. While in the park, my guide was in frequent contact with other guides to try to maximize sightings - we saw zebras, lions, impalas, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, buffalos. The boat ride was worth doing- beautiful birds, hippos, crocodiles, baboons, buffalo, plus the foliage. It was all gorgeous.

This is my first time in Rwanda and I wanted to experience a safari. I am so happy we did. The experience from booking to the ride to the park, the actual park itself and the animals. We had an amazing experience in this Akagera safari. Our guide Kevin was excellent, he really tried his best for us to see all the animals (including lions), while also giving us lots of information about them. We really enjoyed this safari in Akagera National Park. Although we only managed to see only three of the big five (missed the lions and the leopards) and even though there were a few gaps throughout the day without any sightings it was still a very good day trip. Our guide and driver Kevin was very engaging and gave us lots of information about the animals we saw. We also opted for the boat ride in the morning and it was one of our favourite moments at the safari. The weather was very good and it created some amazing landscapes plus we saw lots of animals including a baby crocodile, some black rhinos running away and elephants bathing.
We didn't choose the boat ride in advance but instead we communicated with the tour operator that we wanted to do it the day before and we could pay for it ($35 each) at the visitor centre together with the entry fee ($100 each).
Lastly, the communication we had with Afri Safaris ahead of the day trip was excellent. They quickly respond to both Viator and Whatsapp messages and they also sent you the sample itinerary!
Totally recommend this company!
