Itinerary

Get a true local’s perspective on Kathmandu during this guided tour by rickshaw through the vibrant streets of the colorful Nepalese capital. It’s the perfect chance to take in the explosion of sights, sounds and smells that characterize this fascinating urban area at a laid back pace.

Start your trip in the evening at the Hotel Marshyangdi, where you’ll meet up with your driver and guide for the trip. Climb aboard your personal rickshaw, and set off, as your driver winds his way through the labyrinthine streets of Kathmandu and through throngs of pedestrians. Take time to observe the area’s range of local storefronts, hawking everything from scarves to sweet, baked goods. Your elevated rickshaw seat provides just the right angle of view to observe the hustle and bustle down below.

Travel by rickshaw past Asan, the oldest food market in Kathmandu, specializing in spices and vegetables, before arriving at the ancient shrines, temples, and palaces of Durbar Square. Then a break from your rickshaw ride to stroll through this centuries-old area on foot. Grab a seat on a bench for some quality people-watching, or relive the hippie heyday of the 1960s on Freak Street inside the various shops lining the area. If you’re feeling thirsty, warm yourself up with a cup of chai from a local food vendor or pub.

At the end of your exploration of Durbar Square, hop back aboard your rickshaw, winding once again through the cacophony of vendors, motorbikes and rickshaw horns, as you make your way back to your original departure point.

Great way to get a feel for Kathmandu!

Karen_S, Apr 2025
This tour was a great way for me to get a feel for Kathmandu while I waited for my group to arrive. Our guide Nikita was knowledgeable and our rickshaw driver skilled at navigating uneven and busy streets. There was a great combination of moving through the hustle and bustle from the rickshaw and then experiencing stupas and holy sites on foot. I highly recommend this!

Sanjeeb our guide was very welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. He lead us around town pointing out highlights along the way and did so with a warm hearted character. You could tell that he loves his country and wanted to share that love with us. I had just arrived in Kathmandu 2 hours prior to this tour and considered not going out of exhaustion, but I’m so very glad I went. I highly recommend this tour!

It was OK. As it was night and we had ypto make our way back to our hotel after and the lighting is not so good in Katmandu our guide organized for rickshaw rider to take us back. Make sure you agree to a price before you depart otherwise you will get ripped off.
