Very disappointing

Very disappointed in this one. After booking, the arranger writes to me to suggest going to budongo forest instead, as you get much closer to the chimps there and get to stay for more hours than the one. When we arrived at the forest, it was just one guy trying to track the chimps and we were not that successfull, only seeing them from far away. As compensation for not seeing the crater lakes, I went on a shoebill sighting. It was okay, but I honestly feel cheated by the change of plans, as I agreed to it, but it was not as advertised. The tour says 2 breakfast and 2 lunch, but was only serves 1 of each. On the first day, we did not have lunch until 4pm, my first meal of the day. The car was shambolic and the seats would jump uncontrollably at every bumb in the road (which you meet all the time in Uganda). The guide barely spoke to me and seemed extremely dissatisfied to have to get up in the morning. I can see others have had good impressions with this operator, so I am probably just unlucky, but I still have to present it as I experienced it.

Budongo is well known for providing a more immersive chimpanzee tracking experience compared to some other locations. We only make such recommendations to enhance our guests’ experience, and we always ensure that changes are discussed and agreed upon in advance. We apologize if the tracking experience did not meet your expectations. Chimpanzee tracking is a wildlife activity, and sightings can never be guaranteed. Our expert trackers always do their best to locate the primates, but their movements in the wild can sometimes make close encounters unpredictable. We made sure you started your activity as early as 6am so you can find chimps sleeping and maximize your encounter. As a goodwill gesture, we arranged an extra free shoebill sighting experience costing a fortune because you were solo, and we are sorry to hear that you did not find it satisfactory. Regarding the meals, we ensure that our itineraries clearly state the number of meals included, and we strive to keep to that schedule. Upon checking you had 1 night with us and that means only 1 Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. If there was any deviation, we sincerely regret any inconvenience caused. We will review this internally to ensure future guests have a seamless experience. In terms of the vehicle condition, our fleet is regularly maintained to handle African terrain. However, given the nature of the roads in Uganda, some discomfort on bumpy routes is unfortunately unavoidable. Your feedback is noted, and we will continue to ensure that our vehicles remain in top condition for our guests’ comfort. Lastly, we take great pride in our guides, who are trained to provide professional and engaging service. We apologize if you felt your guide was not as interactive as expected. We will be addressing this with our team to ensure all guests feel well cared for and informed throughout their journey.
