We had soooo much fun! El Yunque is not to be missed. The beauty of the rain forest was indescribable. Definitely pay attention on how to prepare for the trip. Our tour guides were excellent. One recommendation ... if opting out of the water slides and cliff jump, allow cell phones. We missed some great picture opportunities. The kayak excursion was a blast! Would definitely do it again. Our family of 6 are still talking and reliving the experience.

Great your guides Charlene was great along with the other tour guide I can’t remember his name. We had a blast and highly recommend doing both the hike and the kayaking even though it was tough

I definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Puerto Rico for the first time. I had a blast with my uncle. The tour guides were amazing. Thank you

We're thrilled you had a great time with our guides and enjoyed the adventure.
Thank you for recommending our tour, and we hope to welcome you back to Puerto Rico for another unforgettable adventure!

The tour guides were fantastic. If you are coming from a cruise do NOT book this tour. The posted times are approximate; we had to Uber back to the port because we would have gotten back at 10:30 and not 9:30.
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Hola Shawn!
Thank you for your review and for your kind words about our guides. We're glad they helped make the experience enjoyable.
We completely understand your concern regarding the timing. Our tour schedules and return times are approximate because traffic, weather, road conditions, and other factors beyond our control can affect the tour's duration.
We also want to clarify that we were not informed that you were traveling on a cruise with a 10:30 PM all-aboard time. Had we known this in advance, we would have recommended reconsidering booking our tour, as we cannot guarantee an exact return time and always recommend that cruise passengers allow a significant time buffer to return to the port.
We understand that having to take an Uber back to the port was inconvenient, and we're sorry this affected your experience. We appreciate your feedback and hope this clarification helps future cruise passengers plan accordingly.
Shannnan_S, Aug 2026
It was a great day, some hiking, some scrambling over rocks and water fun.
Things that would have helped to know:
Don’t take anything but a small dry bag, towel and water bottle. You’ll leave it all on the bus.
Pay for your smoothie after you order it, not when you pick it up.
Wear your eye glasses on the hike. Leave them at the first water area. Hike up to the falls without them.
Response from Host, Aug 2026
Hola!
Thanks for your great feedback! We're so happy to know you enjoyed the tour. Definitely made our day.
We also appreciate your recommendations for our future travelers.
Hope to hear back from you when you're back in Puerto Rico!
Amy_P, Jul 2026
This experience could be great. But they are definitely in it for the money. One out of our three guides was impressive. He shared all his knowledge about how the bio bay works and why. My low rating is because after kayaking 2.4 miles to the bay they linked us together and told us all about the bay. They also at that time said it was highly unlikely we would see anything. We covered our selves with tarps. Yes you read that right. We covered our selfs
With tarps to make darker and still saw nothing. They took our money and knew we would NOT see anything. On the way back in the dark several kayakers were having a hard time. The guides were not helping. This could have been a better experience. Save your money it’s not worth it!
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hola Amy!
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the Bio Bay experience did not meet your expectations.
We're glad to hear that one of the guides made a positive impression by sharing information about the bioluminescent ecosystem. We also understand your disappointment about not seeing the glow. Bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon that depends on environmental conditions such as weather, water quality, and moonlight, and unfortunately, there are times when visibility is very limited.
Whenever conditions are expected to be poor, we do our best to notify guests in advance so they can make an informed decision before the tour. We also appreciate your comments regarding the assistance provided during the return paddle and will share your feedback with our kayaking partner so they can continue improving the experience.
Thank you again for your honest feedback, and we wish you the very best in your future travels.
Melinda_W, Jul 2026
The main reason I went on this excursion to see the bio bay lights and we saw nothing. Got under tarps -like WHAT! too much money for this kind of disappointment. BUT the travel tour person were GREAT!!! Can’t say enough about them and their hospitality!
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hola Melinda!
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
We're sorry to hear that you were disappointed by the bioluminescence. We understand that seeing the glow is a highlight for many guests, and unfortunately, as a natural phenomenon, its visibility depends on environmental conditions that are beyond anyone's control. Whenever conditions are expected to be poor, we do our best to notify guests in advance so they can make an informed decision before the tour.
That said, we're truly grateful for your kind words about our Island Journeys team. It means a great deal to hear that their hospitality made a positive impression, and we'll be sure to share your compliments with them.
Thank you again for your feedback, and we wish you all the best in your future travels.
Amanda_M, Jul 2026
My family of 6 had an amazing time! The hike itself isn’t bad at all, some “rock climbing” involved to the experiences- especially to the water slide - but the rope swing and cliff jump is much easier to get to. If you do the experiences, you will get soaked but it’s worth it! The kids had the best time. Kayaking - We weren’t able to see the bioluminescence due to the seaweed. It’s about 3 miles kayaking in all.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hola Amanda!
Thank you so much for your review!
We're so happy to hear your family had an amazing time and that the kids especially enjoyed the adventure! The natural waterslide, rope swing, and cliff jump are definitely unforgettable experiences.
We also appreciate your understanding regarding the bioluminescence. Since it's a natural phenomenon, visibility can vary depending on environmental conditions, but we're glad you were still able to enjoy the nighttime kayaking experience.
Thank you for choosing us, and we hope to welcome your family back to Puerto Rico for another adventure!
daliab1529, Jul 2026
This is definitely not El Yunque and/or BioBay Experience!! Our tour guides Rene and Amaru were wonderful, helpful and very knowledgeable of the area!! It’s the company that upsets me! You can’t sell an experience and then not offer it! We don’t actually go into El Yunque!! The places we visited were cool but they are actually on the side/right next to El Yunque.
The BioBay experience was a total flop!! I understand that this is a natural phenomenon; I understand that the weather conditions and so many other factors weigh in on the illumination visibility!! We saw NOTHING! Not even the tarps provided helped!! Then the tour guide said WE HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS!! Well then why are you still selling this experience?!?!?!
This was not what I expected and I was disappointed. To the owners of Island Journey and Kayaking Puerto Rico: do better or rename your excursion!
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hola Dalia!
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad to hear that René and Amauri made a positive impression. We'll be sure to share your kind words with them.
We're sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations. We do want to clarify that the river/swimming area we visit is part of El Yunque National Forest, it is the same rainforest ecosystem and is one of the most popular areas to experience its rivers, natural waterslides, and waterfalls. We understand, however, that this may not have aligned with what you expected.
Regarding the Bioluminescent Bay, we completely understand your disappointment. Bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon that depends on factors such as weather, rainfall, moonlight, and water conditions, and visibility can vary greatly from night to night. Whenever conditions are expected to be poor, we do our best to notify guests in advance so they can make an informed decision about whether to proceed with the tour.
We truly appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continue improving both our communication and our guests' experience. Thank you again for joining us, and we wish you all the best in your future travels.
Angela_K, Jul 2026
This was an amazing experience. My daughter and I definitely were not ready for the strenuous activity. But we had an amazing time. Being out on the water in the dark is something I will never forget. We weren't able to see the gli because I'd the seaweed, but the experience itself is so amazing. A must do.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hola Angela!
Our tour is definitely an adventure to never forget, we're so happy you embraced it and enjoyed it to the fullest.
Thank you for your kind words! We look forward to serving you again.
Melissa_S, Jul 2026
This tour is done through two different companies. Island Journeys is the first company that takes you to the El Yunque Rainforest where you partake in hiking and scrambling/climbing which eventually leads to an awesome natural water slide, cliff jump, and rope swing. Each of which are optional but I highly recommend as it was so fun! Our tour guides, Amauri and Jean were fantastic. Gave us great information about the area and plant life mixing in some humor to keep us entertained. They did a great job guiding us through the scrambling and climbing and made sure we stayed safe. After we finished with the slide, cliff jump and rope, they then fed us fresh fruit before we began the hike back to the van. We were then dropped off at a marina restaurant where we got to have a wonderful early dinner. Then we were taken to the kayak company where they offered us bug spray and lockers for our things before loading up into kayaks for the bioluminescent lagoon tour. We were warned ahead via email that the glow would be very low due to seaweed messing up the oxygen levels but they tried their hardest to create opportunities by providing tarps to create more darkness and giving techniques to increase our chances of seeing the glow. They taught us about some of the other animals located on the island before we began the journey back. Fair warning, while this was a very fun day it was long, and fairly physical. You will be required to have closed toed shoes that have decent grip.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hola Melissa!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review!
We're thrilled to hear you had such a great time and that Amaury and Jean helped make your rainforest adventure both fun and safe. We'll be sure to share your kind words with them! We're also happy you enjoyed the fresh fruit, the early dinner, and the Bio Bay kayaking experience.
Thank you for mentioning the physical nature of the tour and the importance of proper footwear—those tips are very helpful for future guests. We also appreciate your understanding that bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon, and we're glad our kayaking partners did everything they could to make the experience enjoyable despite the challenging conditions.
Thank you for choosing us, and we hope to welcome you back to Puerto Rico for another adventure!

We were supposed to be picked up between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m., but our bus broke down due to A/C issues, so we weren't picked up until almost noon. After that, we still had to pick up other guests and stop for food, which took up even more time. We also had to change lunch restaurants because the original one was closed.
By the time we reached the rainforest, it was around 1:30–2:00 p.m. The guide was knowledgeable, explaining the plants, trees, and wildlife along the hike. We climbed rocks, went down a natural waterslide, jumped off a cliff, and swung from a rope. Fresh fruit was provided after the activities, and we received water and snacks on the bus.
We later ate at El Cayo. The food was delicious, but be aware that the prices we were charged did not match the menu prices.
The last stop was nighttime kayaking. There was no bioluminescence due to the weather, but kayaking at night was still enjoyable.
Overall, the tour was okay, but the delays and scheduling issues took away from the experience.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
We're truly sorry for the unexpected delays at the start of your day. Unfortunately, our bus experienced an unexpected A/C malfunction that morning, and while we immediately arranged a backup vehicle, the change did affect our pickup schedule. We understand how frustrating that was and appreciate your patience as we worked to get everyone safely on their way.
We're glad to hear you enjoyed the rainforest adventure, our guide's knowledge, the activities, and the fresh fruit and snacks. It's also great to know you enjoyed the kayaking experience despite the lack of bioluminescence, which is a natural phenomenon that can vary based on environmental conditions.
We also appreciate you bringing the restaurant pricing to our attention. We'll be sure to share your comments with our dining partner so they can review the discrepancy.
Thank you again for your understanding, and we hope you'll consider visiting us again for an even smoother adventure in the future.
Luis_Z, Jul 2026
It was a great experience. Worth the money and time. The tour guides are fun and attentive. And the hike is not to bad. It’s fun
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hola Luis!
We really appreciate your kind words. We're so happy to read you had an amazing experience and that we met your expectations.
Hope to hear back from you when you're back in Puerto Rico!
Sally_L, Jun 2026
We appreciated the update that there would be little to no bioluminescent activity on the voyage. That said, we should have taken it more seriously. It ended up being kayaking in the mangroves, a beautiful sunset, and then a completely dark journey back to shore. So many elements out of the guides' control, who remained good spirited and fun.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Hola Sally!
Thank you for your thoughtful review!
We truly appreciate your understanding that bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon and can vary depending on environmental conditions. That's why we always do our best to keep our guests informed ahead of time so they can make the decision that's right for them.
We're glad to hear you still enjoyed the beautiful sunset and the kayaking experience, and that our guides helped make the evening fun despite the limited bioluminescence.
We hope to welcome you back to Puerto Rico for another adventure!

Not a great experience for a 60 yr old solo woman traveler. The pickup was chaotic and the waterfall hike was treacherous and nerve racking. Unless you like climbing slippery wet rocks with lots of others. The restaurant we were taken to between the hike and canoe trip was mediocre. And I was looking forward to paddling for the kayak trip but they would not let me go solo and put a person in the back who provided a lot of force so I barely got to row. And there was not much bioluminescence that night. The people running the trips were fine and knew what they were doing but they should just say up front that you’re not going to get a solo kayak.
Response from Host, Jun 2026
Hola Beth!
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations.
Our El Yunque adventure is an active tour that involves hiking on uneven, wet terrain and climbing over rocks, which can be challenging for some guests. We do our best to describe the physical nature of the experience in our tour details so guests can determine whether it is a good fit for their comfort level and abilities.
We're glad to hear that you found both our rainforest and kayaking guides professional and knowledgeable. Safety is always our top priority, especially during activities such as the Bio Bay kayak tour. For this reason, the kayaking operator uses tandem kayaks to ensure the safest and most enjoyable experience for all participants, particularly at night and in varying water conditions. Which is also mentioned in the tour description and the waiver you signed.
We appreciate your comments regarding the restaurant stop and kayak setup, and we'll take your feedback into consideration as we continue working with our partners to improve the overall experience.
Thank you again for joining us, and we wish you all the best in your future travels.
Emmeline_W, May 2026
This expense was amazing and I definitely would recommend it as a way to see both the rainforest and bio bay. The included transportation is definitely a plus. I’ll list some pros and cons as well as notes below.
Pros: the guides are extremely helpful and informative. They make sure if you want to do it you are able to. The kayaking is a separate experience with different guides, who are equally as good. The smoothie place you stop at on the way was really good and the provide fruit, drinks, and snacks after the hiking.
Cons: this trip definitely isn’t for someone who doesn’t want to put the work in. They let you stay back and skip the cliff jump, water slide, and rope swing if you want but I feel like if you do that you’re missing out on a lot of the experience. They had us order the food for dinner in the morning and it wasn’t ready until an hour and a half after we got to the restaurant.
Tips: they say to bring extra clothes and towels but we didn’t use either. There’s not much time to dry off. For the change of clothes you get wet during the hiking and the kayaking so there’s no point in changing between the two. I would recommend a long sleeve shirt for the kayaking to avoid mosquitoes. You do need good hiking shoes that get fully submerged during the hiking, we brought flip flops so we wouldn’t be in wet sneakers and socks the rest of the day. You don’t need much honestly, we over packed. They provide water and snacks throughout the day. You CANT bring anything with you into the forest, everything is left secured on the bus. Leave jewelry and valuables at your hotel.
Overall this was an amazing experience and i definitely would recommend this over anything else. The staff is very kind, helpful, and responsive.
Response from Host, May 2026
Hola Emmeline!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review!
We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed experiencing both El Yunque and the Bioluminescent Bay in one day and that our guides helped make the adventure fun, informative. We love sharing the beauty of the rainforest, its wildlife, and local knowledge with our guests, and it's wonderful to know that this added to your experience.
We also appreciate your helpful tips for future travelers. You're absolutely right that this tour is an active adventure, and while guests can choose to skip certain activities, many find that the water slide, rope swing, and cliff jump become some of their favorite memories of the day!
Thank you as well for your feedback regarding dinner service. While the restaurant operates independently, we understand how waiting after a long day of adventure can be frustrating, and we'll be sure to share your comments with them.
We're delighted that you found our team kind, helpful, and responsive throughout the day. Thank you again for recommending the experience, and we hope to welcome you back to Puerto Rico for another adventure in the future!

Listen to what they tell you.. where hiking boots or hiking sneakers. I wore my bathing suit. You will 100% get soaked. Also muddy. If you need to sit to move across slippery rocks do it.
Response from Host, May 2026
Hola Karen!
Thank you for the great advice and for sharing your experience! El Yunque is definitely a wet, muddy, and adventurous experience, so proper footwear and being prepared to get soaked makes all the difference. We also love your reminder that there’s no shame in taking things at your own pace — safety and comfort always come first.
Thanks again for joining us!

It was a GREAT DAY!! Here is my run down. Communication about pick up/location/what to bring (most via text after signing up) was clear and easy. The rainforest was THE BEST PART OF MY DAY. We went on a natural rock slide, cliff jumps (approx 20ft), and a rope swing. What I appreciated was that since they recommended you don’t bring your phone, they were taking photos and videos of everyone doing all the group activities and then added them into a shared album at the end of the day. It was so nice to disconnect and not have to worry about it. ALSO, our tour guides Bradley and Amartio WERE INCREDIBLE! They are both lifeguard certified and had so much great information to share. They cut us an incredible platter of fresh fruit which was awesome as well! They dropped us off at the cutest marina based restaurant for an early dinner (approx 430pm) and then we kayaking. The was difficult to see the bio bay coloring but that was not the kayaking company’s fault. The kayaking can get pretty intense in some areas with added difficulty that your kayaking in the dark on the way back. But it was still fun all the same. It’s a long day and we got back to Old San Juan via the transport at approx 10pm. However, we are here for a long weekend and it was the perfect way to do two things on our bucket list. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND AND GO!
Response from Host, May 2026
Hola Erin!
Wow! Thank you for sharing such a detailed review! We're so glad you enjoyed your rainforest adventure with Amauri and Bradley— they’ll be thrilled to hear your kind words.
While the bioluminescence can vary depending on natural conditions, we appreciate your understanding and are happy to hear the rest of the day left such a positive impression.
We’d love to welcome you back anytime for another Island Journeys adventure!

Christine_O, Apr 2026
We did the combined rainforest + bio bay excursion and overall it was such a fun, memorable day.
Pickup was smooth and easy, and the ride to El Yunque National Forest was about an hour. Once there, the hike was moderate. Its definitely manageable, but you’ll want to be comfortable walking on uneven terrain. There were a few sections where we had to climb over rocks, and they can get pretty slippery, so good hiking shoes are a must (just know they will get completely soaked during the river portions).
Our guides, Bradley and Amauri, were amazing, super fun, energetic, and made the whole experience feel safe and organized. The river portion was a highlight: we did a natural waterslide, rope swing, and a few cliff jumps. They also did a great job taking photos for us, which meant we could leave our phones in the van and just enjoy everything.
After the rainforest, we got snacks, drinks, and even beer, which was a nice touch before heading to the bio bay.
The second part of the tour was kayaking in Bioluminescent Bay. The kayaking itself was really fun especially being out on the water in the dark, and the stars were incredibly clear. They also provided bug spray, which was appreciated.
That said, the bioluminescence was pretty minimal during our trip (we were told it might be due to seaweed conditions), so that part didn’t quite live up to expectations visually. Also, while they mentioned they’d take photos during the bio bay portion, we only received a few low-quality ones, nothing compared to the great photos from the rainforest.
Overall, it was a full, adventure-packed day and definitely worth doing. The rainforest portion was the standout, and the guides really made the experience. Just go in knowing the bio bay visibility can vary depending on conditions.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hola Christine!
Thank you for sharing such a detailed review! We’re so glad you enjoyed your rainforest adventure with Amauri and Bradley— they’ll be thrilled to hear your kind words. You’re right, the waterslides, cliff jumping, and hiking are always the highlight, that plus your adventurous spirit is what makes the experience so rewarding!
While the bioluminescence can vary depending on natural conditions, we appreciate your understanding and are happy to hear the rest of the day left such a positive impression.
We’d love to welcome you back anytime for another Island Journeys adventure!

Our entire excursions was canceled 5 mins after they were supposed to pick us up due to vehicle issuses. We did get a full refund but very disappointed.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hola Maggie!
Thank you for your feedback, and we’re truly sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this caused. We understand how frustrating it is to have plans changed at the last minute, especially during your vacation.
Unfortunately, the cancellation was due to an unexpected vehicle issue that arose right at pickup time. While situations like this are rare, safety is always our top priority, and we cannot operate if there is any concern with our transportation.
We’re glad we were able to process a full refund promptly, but we sincerely regret that we couldn’t provide the experience you were looking forward to.
Thank you for your understanding.

Hope to hear back from you when you're back in Puerto Rico!
Alisa_Y, Apr 2026
Cons: They tell you to bring snacks and water but the first stop is a bad fruit smoothie place with drinks made from concentrate.
Pros: Guide Amauri and Jami were the great for the size of the group and the very busy and crowded areas like the jumps etc.
bio bay: you don’t see much and they don’t give you time to use the one bathroom before leaving. The driver on the way back “Mr Easy” was going 85+mph on the way back wearing sunglasses at night: was frightful but we got back 30 min earlier.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Hola Alisa!
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear that Amauri and Jami took great care of your group, especially in busy areas — they’ll appreciate your kind words.
We’d like to clarify that the stop at the fruit stand is simply an optional quick stop along the way, and guests are welcome to bring their own snacks and water as recommended. We appreciate your input on that experience and will take it into consideration.
Regarding the Bio Bay portion, conditions such as moonlight, weather, and water activity can affect visibility, and we always try to set expectations around that. We also appreciate your note about the timing and facilities, which we will share with our partner team.
We are especially concerned to hear your comments about the driving experience. Guest safety is our top priority, and this is not the standard we expect. We will be addressing this matter internally.
Thank you again for your honest feedback — it helps us continue improving.

Could have been a really cool kyaking trip, but you’re treated like cattle once you’re out there. I paid to see bioluminescence and enjoy the experience, but they rushed us out to the lagoon and before the sun was fully down, they rushed us out and back to the shop. We didn’t get to see hardly any bioluminescence activity. It was frustrating to see other tours staying out there longer and other groups going out in the dark. Their advertising is misleading on how the experience works and what you’ll see.

Hola Brad!
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the Bio Bay portion of your experience did not meet your expectations.
Bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon and visibility can vary greatly depending on factors such as moonlight, weather conditions, water movement, and seasonality. Timing on the water is also coordinated by our partner company and local regulations, which can sometimes result in groups entering or exiting at different times.
That said, we understand how frustrating it can feel when the experience doesn’t match expectations, and we truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We will be sharing your feedback with our partner team to continue improving communication and overall guest experience.
Thank you again for your honest review.

It was an awesome experience, well worth it our bus driver Amauri was awesome and so were the guides for the hike and kayaking trip. The kayaking was fun but a lot of our group seemed to be struggling with going in a straight line lol. The hike wasn’t too difficult but I definitely would not call it easy. Expect for every part of you to get soaked and bring extra clothes. I wish that they had given us a little more time to change after the kayaking but otherwise an amazing experience. They have a great snack of fresh fruit after the hike and a nice place for dinner as well.

Fabulous day! The hike was shorter than we thought it would be but we spent a lot of time at the water hole going down a rock slide, jumping off of a high cliff, swinging off the rope swing. Amore and Jean were our houses and they were fabulous!! Fin and informative.
You get thoroughly wet, shoes and all, so be prepared. Def requires a level of adventurism. You also travel wet to the kayaking location.
There we had an amazing trip through the mangroves and saw the beautiful bioluminescence. The trip was so peaceful. Daniel, Miguel, Analiese, and Francesco were fabulous!! Def worth the experience.

Hola Colleen!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear you had such a fabulous day enjoying the rock slide, cliff jump, and rope swing — it’s definitely an adventure-filled experience.
Amauri and Jean will be so happy to know they helped make the day fun and informative. And yes, it’s definitely a “get completely wet” kind of tour! We’re glad you also enjoyed the magical kayaking through the mangroves and the bioluminescence.
