Mexico is home to many fantastic archeological sites, but only two are located on the water. One is Tulum, with its fortress on the Caribbean Sea; the other is on the Pacific Ocean here in Huatulco. Explore the ruins with a local guide who shares history and local insight about the site and region. You’ll also be rewarded with views of the Pacific Ocean from certain positions within the grounds.

We thoroughly enjoyed this experience! As it turned out we were the only two registrants that day so Alberto gave us a private tour. It was fascinating to learn about all the ancient cultures that lived in the area and left behind such interesting and impressive structures. Alberto was extremely knowledgeable regarding both the archaeology and biodiversity of the Copalita park. Apart from everything we learned, it was also a beautiful and scenic hike (moderate exertion). Highly recommend!

Hello from paradise.
Thank you for your comment.
The archaeology tour is a favorite; we're happy you enjoyed it and learned so much.

We got a thorough education on the history of the area (what is known) and the plants and animals, native and introduced. Alberto was knowledgeable and passionate about the archeological and biological features of the area. The ruins had not all been recovered so the site is work in progress. It was obvious that this was a significant and substantial site. We walked to a cliff area where we could see over the beaches and saw some distant whales. Also so numerous birds , coatis, squirrels and a lizard. Our tour ran long as Alberto took the time to enthusiastically answer every question. The cold beer or water at the end was a treat!!

This was a great tour in a beautiful location. We met Alberto right at the end of the pier and set off on our journey. There were 10 passengers in a comfortable, air conditioned van. Alberto discussed history on the way to the park and encouraged all our questions. We thoroughly enjoyed the morning and the view at the end was spectacular. Be advised that to get to the view over the ocean, it was a half mile up an incline including about 40 steps. Those who could not do that were about to wait at the bottom of the incline. The park was very beautiful and the ruins interesting. We learned alot. Alberto was so detailed in explaining history, culture and fauna that we ran slightly over. The beer at the end was very welcome.

It is worth the time to learn about the history, architecture, plant life and people's of Huatulco. The views of the beach below are outstanding. Alberto is very knowledgeable about this region. He makes an enjoyable experience for all who attend. There is some walking and stairs, this is not for the sedentary.

The trip was awesome and we learned so much about the Zapotecs and the wisdom of the mesoamerican. And our tour guide Alberto is so knowledgeable and shared everything he knows with us. His little bag is full of different teaching materials and whatever questions you have, he has the answer and tool to show you.

Wear light clothing ( long pants if you want avoid the bugs and prickly plants.) there is a small-ish hike uphill. Not only were they on time, Alberto, our guide was knowledgeable and had great energy. Expect about 3 hours for round trip. Air conditioned vehicle and water provided (beer do the grown ups.) highly recommend!

We had a great experience on the Copalita archaeological tour in Huatulco. My husband especially really enjoyed it. The site itself is beautiful and full of history, and our guide was extremely knowledgeable—not just about the ruins, but also about the local birds, lizards, wildlife, and the broader history of the area. We learned a lot and never felt rushed during the tour.
The only downside was during the booking process. We felt some pressure to change our chosen day to make it more convenient for the company, which was a bit off-putting. Once the tour began, however, everything ran smoothly and was very enjoyable.
Overall, we would still recommend this tour, especially for anyone interested in archaeology, nature, and local history.

Hello from Paradise
Thank You for your review.
The politics of our company is full satisfaction in any thing we offer , actually you are right we try to move the day of the tour , this is the busiest time of the year ; and wanted your kid to enjoy as much as any adult interested in archeology without being mixed with more adults than mam and dad and We accomplished the goal delivering the tour the time you wanted and getting another guide with 5 five adults separately from You
Thank You for your preference.

This is easily the best tour I’ve been on while vacationing! I’m quite certain this is due to the extremely knowledgeable and passionate tour guide we had (Alberto). Visiting this site without guidance would probably result in a nice 20 minute walk through the woods but you would miss all of the details about the site that are not obvious. He walked us through the regional geography, topography and biodiversity that influenced much of the archeological site’s construction and also some later decisions relating to the archeological restoration and uncovering. Highly recommend for anyone fascinated with history and archaeology. 10/10.

Our guide, Alberto, had a ton of positive energy, a ton of knowledge, and a ton of skill explaining what we were looking at and helping us see the relationships between those things. His knowledge of Capolita was deep, but no less than than the history, and natural history, connections between Capolita and other Mesoamerican sites, flora and fauna. Plus his English is great. Plus his family is from the region. Highly recommended.

Huatulco was nice, not your typical overrun tourist town.
It was very hot and humid the day we visited, which made it hard to concentrate. However Alberto and Mateo were so good I would totally come back for more tours with them. They are so passionate about their craft and the resource. They are personable and knowledgeable. I came on a cruise ship but am glad I booked this tour instead of a shore excursion. Most tour guides simply have a job and you will get ao much more out of a Homie Tours outing.

Loved this trip - fantastic guide who took us around the copalita site. Glad I got this instead of the princess cruise one, same place but our guide was a professor and was more in depth plus took us to places the others didn’t get to. Shh! Defo recommended

Beautiful area. By the ocean, pyramids and historical. Alberto, our guide knows his stuff. He answered all questions. You can tell he loves his country and Hualtuco. This excursion is worth the money. We had 9 in our group and the only ones at the site. This was to be a 3 1/2 excursions but we were fortunate to have 5 1/2 hours. There is shady areas and sunny. The views by the ocean was wonderful. Learned so much.

I can't say much but, thank you very much for taking some of you precious time , to give a review which hopefully orient other visitors coming this way.
So long.

This was a terrific tour. We only had 8 people so we got much more close up information than the huge tour buses that pulled up after we had arrived!! The visit to the archaeological sight was very informative. Our guide, Enrique Rosario was very knowledgable and gave us all kinds of information and background and history. The tour was excellent, and we were offered water or beer on the ride in our air conditioned van. After the tour we took a quick side trip to the main church in town and a weaving shop where we learned how they dye the materials to make rugs, table cloths, etc. We then had the afternoon to have a relaxing lunch before re-boarding the ship. Highly recommend the tour and our guide!!
