    Had a fantastic time with...

Had a fantastic time with our tour guide Andrew and a group from Sydney. Learnt a lot about Hobart’s past which even I didn’t know! Loved Manky Sally’s which I’ve never ventured to before. Well worth it and definitely recommended 👍👍

    Expensive beers

    Andrew_D, Apr 2026
4 pubs each close to each other a bit of local history similar to minimal online research. So expensive for effectively 4 beers

This tour was a great way to learn about Hobart history and have a few drinks together with a local.

An amazing tour. Dave (Greg) made it so entertaining and informative. The history we learnt of each Pub was great. Would recommend to anyone as you learn both history and the locations of good pubs. Having trainee Dave's made it even better.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for the great review! We’re thrilled you enjoyed Hobart’s Liquid History Pub Tour and thanks for name dropping me so i can show all the other Dave's i've still got it haha! Learning the stories behind Hobart’s historic pubs while finding some great spots to drink is exactly what the tour’s all about — and glad the trainee Daves added to the fun too. See you at the bar, Gregg (Short Fat Dave)

    Josh was our tour guide...

    Jaimes_A, Oct 2025
Josh was our tour guide for the evening, with one other customer (training to be a guide) - making a group of 4. Josh was an enthusiastic guide, with many stories of Hobart and colonial settlement of greater Tasmania, and kept up the energy and vibe throughout the 2.5 hours which in a small group can be a challenge. We loved the first pub (great atmosphere, historical vibe and craft beers), but the 2nd and 3rd pubs were a bit average, there were no craft beers at either (only cascade/boags), the 2nd pub super rowdy with no table booking, the 3rd (also no table booking) seemed historical upstairs but we don’t recall hearing about it. Manky Sally’s (4th and last pub) was ok, had craft beers, not historical but has a cool Mona vibe (same owner). Overall, we enjoyed the night, but we think it would benefit from pub selections more appropriate to a historical tour, and with craft beer available, along with confirmed table bookings so we aren’t wandering about looking for seats.

    Response from Host, Jan 2026

Hi Jaimes, Apologies for the late response. We do get buried in reviews that are mostly 5 stars, so they are not always checked as often as they should be. Thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed and considered review, and we’re glad to hear you enjoyed the night overall. We’re especially pleased to hear your kind words about Josh. Leading a very small group for a full 2.5 hours can be challenging, and it’s great to hear his enthusiasm, storytelling, and knowledge of Hobart’s colonial history helped keep the energy and vibe strong throughout the evening. In terms of the venues, Hobart presents a unique challenge when it comes to “historic” pubs. Starting at Australia’s oldest continually operating pub doesn’t leave a huge number of options as the night goes on, particularly on a busy Saturday evening. While we always aim to balance history, atmosphere, and local flavour, availability and crowd levels can vary — especially on weekends. Regarding bookings, this is very much a reality of pub touring. With constantly changing group sizes and venues that prioritise walk-ins, confirmed table bookings aren’t always possible, particularly on high-demand nights. That said, we absolutely take your feedback on board and continually review venue flow and pacing. On the beer front, while this isn’t a craft beer–specific tour, we do focus on Tasmanian beer — the vast majority brewed locally, many within walking distance of the pubs themselves. Manky Sally’s, as you noted, offers a more contemporary counterpoint and a strong local connection. We appreciate your thoughtful feedback and will continue refining the tour to strike the best balance possible between history, atmosphere, and enjoyment — while also recognising that busy Hobart nights come with their own character. Thanks again for joining us, and we’re glad you enjoyed the experience overall. Cheers, Gregg
