Itinerary

Make your own way to the Hobart Travel Centre to meet your guided and begin your Hobart, Battery Point and Salamanca tour.

Learn about the history of Hobart — founded in 1803 and the second oldest city in Australia after Sydney. Pass by present-day landmarks, view heritage-listed buildings, and hear stories about the issues and people that influenced Tasmania in the early days of the colony.

Next up, step back in time to see historical sandstone buildings, some built 180 years ago, as you explore Battery Point. Walk around the sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place, which represent a prime example of the typical architecture of colonial Australia. The buildings are now art galleries, office and restaurants. Every Saturday, the popular Salamanca Markets features several hundred vendors with art, fresh foods and handicrafts.

Excellent walking tour.

LEANNE_C, Nov 2025
We had a great afternoon with Richard. He is very knowledgeable and the three hours flew by. Richard showed us many interesting things around Hobart and shared many interesting facts with us. We highly recommend this walking tour to hear all about Hobart’s fascinating past.

Hobart - Walking tour - things we didn't know

Paulette_C, Apr 2025
We have been to Tasmania and Hobart many times, and wanted to do something different as we had done most of the top attractions. Everywhere we go around the world we do a walking tour so decided to do one around Hobart and it was fantastic. Our guide Diane was brilliant and knowledgeable and we found out so much about the history of Hobart and also we didn't realise that when walking the streets of Hobart that we would walk past so many historic and beautiful buildings. Going through battery point and able to go up to the tower in Lenna was brilliant. So much history that we do need to remember.

Very informative tour of historic Hobart

What an amazing day. The guide was so nice and informative. Her knowledge of Hobart was wonderful and she went out of her way to make it an interactive experience. Diane was so wonderful and really went out of her way to make everyone a part of the story and inclusive experience.

Seeing and hearing about aspects of Hobart that we would have otherwise missed. Diane was great, so enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

A wonderful and informative day waking around Hobart and learning all of the fascinating history. Tony was an amazing guide whose knowledge and passion for Hobart made the day even better. We went on the longer walk and it was well worth it!

To be completely honest, this tour...

Janine M, Dec 2017
To be completely honest, this tour was a little boring - sorry. We typically love walking tours but didn't really enjoy this one. To top it off, having nothing whatsoever to do with the tour, it rained buckets causing us to abandon the second half of the tour and head back to the ship.
