A must-do pottery experience in Cappadocia: creative, authentic, and unforgettable

This pottery workshop with Metin at the Kapadokya Comleksilik shop was easily one of the highlights of our time in Cappadocia. Metin is an excellent teacher: patient, welcoming, and clearly passionate about his craft. Even as beginners, we felt comfortable from the start, and he guided us step-by-step in creating our own pottery on the wheel. What makes this experience even more special is that it doesn’t end with shaping the clay. After creating your piece, you also get the chance to draw and paint pottery designs the same day, adding your own personal touch and creativity to the experience. It was both relaxing and incredibly fun. The shop itself is also worth visiting. There are three separate rooms filled with beautifully painted ceramic pottery, showcasing stunning craftsmanship and traditional designs. Walking through these rooms really gives you an appreciation for the artistry and history behind the work. Overall, this experience feels authentic and personal rather than touristy. Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with family, this workshop offers a memorable cultural experience and a unique souvenir you create yourself. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Cappadocia!

What a fabulous experience! Metin was so lovely, he pickup us up and dropped us off at our hotel in Goreme. He showed us each how to make a item, I made a vase and hubby made a bowl. He showed us step by step how make it, then wrapped it up for us to take home. His family has a shop where you can also purchase items, we got some cool little coffee cups and a plate. Highly recommend this tour

This was BY FAR the best experience we had in Cappadocia… I maybe even one of the best experiences we have EVER had on a trip! The family-run business has such a special feel and learning about their lineage and how they have passed the craft down through generations was inspirational and made the workshop even more authentic. Even with no past art skills, our pieces turned out beautiful thanks to the help and guidance we received while creating our vases. There are so many options that you can choose from to create, including options to paint the pieces or add 3D aspects. We walked out with the pieces we made and on the transport back to our hotel we were shown where the different types of clay they use is sourced from. It is a unique and incredible experience that you MUST add to your itinerary if you are planning a trip to Cappadocia!

Metin is a master 4th generation potter, it was a privilege to spend time with him, we also met his father and his family. It's hard to overstate how nice Metin and his family are, and they make this experience unique and one not to miss.

Our pottery master was wonderful! He was very patient and a very good communicator on how to make a beautiful piece! If you plan to paint it expect 3-4 hrs from pick up to finish.

Metin is an incredible host and even better artist! His talent has been passed down for four generations and there is a huge display of his work. Metin briefly taught us about the history of the clay and the importance in turkey. The experience was incredible. Metin is a really good and patient teacher. There is a wide variety of options and lots of space. It was my boyfriend’s first time at a pottery experience and I didn’t anticipate him enjoying it so much and wanting to go back. I definitely recommend!

Pottery in Cappadocia

Everything about this tour was memorable! We were picked up at our hotel and taken to the pottery studio where we did a short introduction about the history of clay in Cappadocia. After this the real fun began where we choose our own design and made it on the wheel. Our guide was awesome and patiently guided us through the whole process of creating our masterpieces. Afterwards we dried our clay creations and it was packed and wrapped for us to take home. It really was a memorable experience that we will remember forever.

Our instructor Metin was amazing! He was very skilled, patient, and good at teaching how to make each item. There was NO pressure to buy things or purchase add-ons. My friends and I were able to paint our pottery and take it home the same day. It was so fun, and I would recommend to others!

Experiencia 100% recomendable. Nos vinieron a buscar a la puerta del hotel y nos trajeron de vuelta. A la llegada nos enseñó el lugar donde tiene el taller y nos explico con todo detalle la preparación de la arcilla y las técnicas para moldearla. Una vez nos hizo la demostración vino nuestro turno, con mucha paciencia fuimos uno a uno moldeando la pieza que queríamos, pone que la experiencia dura 1h 30mins pero nosotros estuvimos algo más para que cada uno pudiera acabar su pieza y llevársela a casa. Nosotros íbamos justos de tiempo porque nos salía pronto el avión, pero nos habría gustado coger el extra para decorar y pintar nuestra pieza. Al finalizar te la envuelve para que no tengas problema de llevártela en avión, lo prepara en la tienda donde puedes ver todas sus obras y preguntar sin problema y sin presión a comprar nada. Nos pareció una experiencia diferente para lo que se suele ofrecer en Capadocia y nos gustó mucho.
