- The tour starts when passengers are picked up in El Calafate. You will board our comfortable buses, where our tour guides will give you information on the place, the glacier and the tour on our way to Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. Once you arrive at “Bajo de las Sombras” port (located on Route 11, 70 Km from El Calafate), you’ll board a ship to cross Lago Rico and descend on the opposite coast, after a 20-minute navigation in front of the stunning south face of Glaciar Perito Moreno.
- When you disembark, you will be welcomed by our expert mountain guides, who will lead you to a cozy shelter with a privileged view of the glacier. Here starts the trekking! We will start by walking along the coast of the lake, keeping our eyes on the glacier so that we do not miss any ice calvings. Then, the guides will give a talk about glaciology. When we reach the glacier side, with its amazing shades of blue ice framing the landscape, you will be divided into subgroups of up to 20 people each and you will have the crampons and helmets fitted, which are provided by the company. This tour is highly personalized (one guide every up to 10 passengers). Once on the glacier, you will hear the safety instructions and you will walk to enjoy this frozen paradise, which has been declared a Word Heritage Site in 1981.
- The level of difficulty of this walk is moderate. The surface of the ice is irregular, but firm and safe. During the trekking, you will be able to see a variety of typical glacier features, such as deep cracks, blue moulins, huge seracs and turquoise ponds.
- At the end of the ice trekking, you will walk on the area around the glacier and the side moraine, from where you will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of Glaciar Perito Moreno, the mountains and the lake. Later, you will return along a path crossing the exuberant Bosque Andino Patagónico, completing the THREE-HOUR WALK ON THE LAKE COAST, MORAINE, ICE AND WOODS (about one hour is on the glacier’s ice). When we arrive to the shelter, we will give visitors hot drinks and a souvenir. Shortly after, you will embark to return to “Bajo de las Sombras” port, but before departing you will be able to watch the huge walls of the glacier from the ship.
- The duration of this tour is about 10 hours, including the transfer and a one-hour guided visit to the walkways of Glaciar Perito Moreno, 7 km from the port. There, you’ll enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of the glacier and walk along some of the self-guided paths. If you don’t use our transfer and go by your own means, the Minitrekking takes about five hours and a half, leaving from the port and returning to the same point.
- Group departures: we have several departures at different times. If you are traveling in a group or with a partner, please tell us the details in advance, in order to place them at the same time and guarantee the group departure at the same time
- If there is a participant under the age of 15, please provide a photo of their passport with the date of birth so we can confirm the reservation. This will be requested at the time of confirmation.
- If you choose the without transfer option, please note that this alternative does not include transportation to and from the walkways, and therefore, the total duration of the tour is reduced to approximately 5 hours.
- Passengers who choose the without transfer option: The meeting point will be at Puerto Bajo Las Sombras, Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, Z9405, El Calafate. We will inform you of the meeting time when your booking is confirmed and will send it to you along with the itinerary once the reservation is finalized.

A very well organised tour. Everything ran on time. The glacier was amazing and all staff gave interesting facts about it. Appreciated the offer coffee/ tea during the lunch break. The views from the walkway were equal to, if not better than views doing the mini trek. However, walking on the glacier was a great experience.
If you have any doubts - price, crampons, or whatever - put them aside. This is a special and beautiful experience at one of the natural wonders of the world. It’s professionally run and you’re in good hands - Sebastián who led the tour was energising and knowledgeable with a great sense of humour, and Eduardo looked after everyone and inspired confidence. But everyone at Hielo y Aventura was exceptional. Although it’s a well marked tourist destination they managed to give everyone a great personal experience.
Breathtaking views, informative and friendly bi-lingual guides. The trekking was not too difficult and there was an abundance of stops to take great pictures.

This excursion was ok. If you are going to travel to Calafate then you do need to do this trip as there are amazing views and scenery. The trip was a little dull overall and I don’t feel it was worth the money which is why I gave it 4 stars. I do recommend people do it for the experience but don’t expect too much trekking or actual time on the ice. My husband and I are glad we did it but were not like, “oh my gosh, how amazing” afterwards. Side note: we booked a tour in English. This means we were the only 2 people out of 40+ people on the bus who spoke English. It seemed like people were annoyed by this and it made us a bit self conscious. I wish they would have been more open w the communication that it was a bilingual tour.
Amazing tour, well coordinated. Absolutely beautiful sights and an amazing experience on the glacier with people who truly love nature. I don't have anything negative to say - it was an incredible experience that we are thrilled to have experienced.
Seeing the glacier from above on the viewing platforms and walking through the blue crevasses of the glacier was unforgettable, lots of great photo ops!

Excellent tour with outstanding guides. Walking on the glacier was an amazing experience. Important: Bring high alpine sunscreen and good hiking shoes.
AVOID. this is a re-sale of an experience operated completely by another company, with no value-add by the reseller.
Book directly with Hielo y Aventura and save a lot of money.
Also, the communication is misleading, it implies you won't have any access to food during the excursion, but one of the very first stops is the main park center, which has a cafeteria.

Dear Derek,
The assessment is incorrect and I will explain why:
It is not correct that buying through the local operator the service will be cheaper since the price in pesos is $ 25,500, in case you buy directly with your credit card, your bank will charge you $ 250. (due to convertibility)
You will only get a difference of Usd 20 buying with local operators, and you will not have the support anybody to assist you in the case of:
- Refund request for any situation that you cannot do the tour
- You will not have an organized itinerary that supports the details of the tour
- Guaranteed availability
- Customer care atention
Difference between booking with an operator to booking with a customer service agency:
- Local operators do not have a cell phone or WhatsApp for their passengers, they do not have customer service, once your voucher is sold, all information or inconvenience including modifications without prior notice will be under the responsibility of the passenger. For this reason they are OPERATORS and not CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENCIES.
- Pick up times are usually modified according to weather changes, these changes are only reported to the agencies, agencies such as Azul Latina will contact you for any modification in your itinerary and will be responsible for you to receive all the information until the time of the tour
- If the passenger has any inconvenience during the service that gives rise to an inappropriate attention or operational event, the agency will be in charge of making a full refund to the passenger
- The agency will provide you with a WhatsApp and cell phone available so that passengers can be in contact for any change they request
Once this is clarified, passengers have the freedom and responsibility to buy directly with operators or agencies as they deem it more convenient and timely.
If you want to save Usd 20, you can also buy at your destination and pay for the tour in Argentine pesos, only if you pay the operator in cash, the problem here will be to find availability and ensure that you can do the tour the day that fit your itinerary.
Finally and to close your concern and any other interested reader, we are looking at your booking history, where we see that you made your purchase on December 24 at 8.30 PM, and received the confirmation of your place and itinerary at 9.00 PM from same December 24th.
Date and times that only through our agency have you been able to obtain your place and attention for December 26!

This is a review for the company Latina Azul, which is listed as the tour provider. If you want to trek on the glacier, I strongly recommend booking with another company. Also note, most of the previous positive reviews are from 2020. 1) Latina Azul simply sells your ticket for an extreme markup to another company, Heilo y Adventure, which operates huge group tours on the glacier. As we learned later, Heilo y Adventure seems to be the only company operating tours on the glacier, so you may as well book with them directly or at least with a local provider that doesn't do such an extreme markup. Latina Azul greatly inflates the price, maybe by 3x, for what you could get this exact same tour. 2) Although the photos show small groups of like 6 people, make no mistake, this is a huge tour bus and huge boat with over 50 people. Your bus of 50 will be one of many following the same route and timeline with other tour busses, including for the trekking itself. 2) Although it says the tour is in English, it's mostly in Spanish. On our tour bus of nearly 50 people, we were the only 2 native English speakers. The guides provide great depth to their descriptions in Spanish maybe speaking for 5 minutes, and then follow up with 1 sentences in English. For example, they will provide great detail on the Patagonia ecosystem in Spanish, then say in English "There are foxes, birds and hares living here". I speak some Spanish, my husband doesn't, which is why we booked in English. The tour lacks the humor and depth in English is has in Spanish. I can understand why the guides would not spend much time in English since we were the only ones, but it is false advertising from the tour provider to say this tour is in English. 3) Latina Azul does not provide any customer service. The tour details say you will be picked up at 7 am. We got a Viatour email saying it was changed to 8 am. Then, we waited in the hotel lobby for over half an hour, worried that the pickup had forgotten us. We tried to contact Latina Azul via email and Whatsapp and they did not respond. Finally we got picked up along with several other people in our hotel lobby who had not booked with Latina Azul all for the same tour on the same bus. We had also emailed Latina Azul with questions about the gear we needed for weather that time of year and never received a response.
So basically, I knew there was a huge tour provider that gave tours mostly in Spanish, I paid a lot more to go with what I though would be a higher quality tour (based on the reviews from 2020) exclusively in English and with a smaller group, and ended up paying 4x more for the same thing.
Really crappy and scammy on the part of Latina Azul.
However, I will note the physical experience of trekking on the glacier itself with the campons and seeing the ice cave was amazing. I am not happy with the scammy nature of Latina Azul, but you should still go on a Glacier trekking tour if you can, not for the quality of the tour itself, but because the glacier itself is an amazing natural phenomenon. Just make sure you don't over pay.

I'm sorry you had your cell phone turned off for two days, otherwise you wouldn't have had to wait in the lobby. In any case, I apologize for the time modification, these eventualities can happen in the glaciers due to weather conditions that exceed our management.
In any case, in the face of these eventualities, remember that alway you will have a minimum of two days prior to the tour where the agency will communicate with the passengers to inform them of any change in their itinerary.
The Transfers with which we operate are modern and with capacity for small groups of people, but even so it can happen that they have a delay of 5 to 7 minutes.
Regarding the language, the guides speak perfectly English / Portuguese / French and Spanish, it is the first time in 7 years that a passenger feels excluded, especially when English is the language most used by the guides on these tours.

A very well organised day trip. Was initially concerned re large numbers of people doing the trip but very well run and structured. Stunning views and excellent to experience to walk on the glacier. Excellent day all round.
