This tour starts out a little early, we went in mid-March and we were very cold in that shuttle until our first stop (the rest area at the historic old hotel). We should have been better prepared for the cold, but the shuttle did not have heat and felt breezy that early in the morning. We lucked out with the weather, with a warm and sunny day and clear views of the mountains. We were only in El Chalten for enough time to eat lunch at one of the local restaurants - there was not time to explore the town. Lunch was just okay, everyone eats together at communal tables. Our group got separated and one of us ended up at a table with a group that did not speak the same language so it was a little awkward for her. We would have preferred less time for lunch, maybe something that was more simple and more time to explore the area. Our tour guide was interesting and charismatic, but she switched back and forth between Spanish and English so quickly that it was difficult to follow what she was saying at times. The walk to the Los Condores viewpoint was by far the highlight of the day. The waterfall walk was fine but there were a lot of tour groups there so it felt a little crowded.

Fun Day Trip to El Chalten

Fun day trip to see El Chalten and Fitz Roy Mountain. The guide was excellent and the walks offered incredible views.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

"We really appreciate your feedback! It's great to know you enjoyed the walks and the expertise of our guide. Thank you for choosing us to experience the beauty of Mount Fitz Roy. Safe travels!"

Very nice tour

Antonio_N, Feb 2026
Such a neat experience. It’s a long drive but worth it. The lunch was not us good us we expected. The beef milanesa was very tough. The guy next to me end up bending his fork. The tour guide Alejandro did a very good job and the driver Ricardo kept us safe. Almost all the people in the group who ordered the beef milanesa end up not finishing their food.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

We're glad you had a neat experience with Alejandro and Ricardo! They are indeed a great team. We’ve noted your feedback regarding the restaurant to make sure this doesn't happen again. Thank you for letting us know!"

Quick day trip to El Chalten

Sorina_M, Feb 2026
A pleasant day - quite long on a bus to El Chalten - an easy 1 hour hike up to Condor peak (complete with circling condors) to view the Fitzroy Mountains. After paying entrance fee to National park. A nice lunch in a local restaurant included. Then 1/2 hour free time before travelling back. For us a couple of reasonably fit 60 year olds and with limited time it was suitable. For youngster folks I would stay in El Chalten to hike and get more for your park entrance fee.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you for the detailed review and for highlighting our local lunch. We’re happy the pace of the day worked well for you. Safe travels and come back to see us soon!

Fantastic

Response from Host, Feb 2026

So happy you loved the views and the food. We'll pass your shout-out to the guide! See you next time!

The first hike was fairly to see an excellent view from the top. Second one was more of a stroll to see a waterfall.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about the hikes on the tour. We are so glad to hear you enjoyed the contrast between the two parts of the experience: the first ascent leading to an excellent view from the top, and the second hike, which offers a relaxing stroll to see a waterfall. We design our excursions to provide a mix of adventure and tranquil natural beauty. We hope you took many wonderful photos and look forward to welcoming you back to Patagonia soon.

Good time at El Chaltén

Nice ans relax day trip to El Chaltén. I liked the tour and the walking experience up the hills and discovering the beauty of this national Park.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

"We truly appreciate your feedback! It’s wonderful to know that you enjoyed the walking experience and the stunning landscapes of our National Park. Our goal is to provide a seamless and enjoyable journey to El Chaltén, and we are happy we met your expectations. Thank you for choosing us!"

Awesome experience!

Lena_C, Jan 2026
We loved “El Chalten”. The tour includes a walk to Cerro del Cóndor where you can get the best pictures of the Fitz Roy mountain, the river and the town. Bring comfortable shoes and wear your clothes in layers, as the weather may change suddenly. The tour team was great and gave us useful information about El Chalten history and its natural resources. Great experience! Thank you!

Response from Host, Jan 2026

"Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are thrilled that you loved El Chaltén as much as we do. The view of the Fitz Roy from Cerro del Cóndor is indeed one of our favorite spots for photos! We also appreciate you sharing such great advice about the layers and comfortable shoes—it’s the golden rule for Patagonia weather. We’ll be sure to share your kind words with the whole team. Hope to see you again!"

Palash_K, Jan 2026
This excursion was great. Our guide, Sandra was super knowledgeable and made the experience so much better. The lunch was hot and fresh in el Chaltén so that was a nice suprise. We got lucky with a perfect day so we could see both mountains clearly. Also, if you do the glacier before or after, you only pay 50% of park entry.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

"What a fantastic experience! 🏔️ We’re so glad you enjoyed the views, the food, and Sandra's company. Thank you for the pro-tip about the park entrance fee! We hope you had an amazing time exploring the glaciers too. See you next time!"

We were taken to El Chalten on the Overland 4X4, and Walter was a very informative tour guide. We enjoyed the hike up to Mirador de Los Condores to get a panoramic view of the area, especially Mount Fitz Roy. Afterwards we drove to town for a decent hot lunch. Then, we went back for a short hike to Chorrillo del Salto waterfall. We drove back to town to have 45 minutes to shop or have a drink before returning back El Calafate. We went on a sunny day which was ideal for photography.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

We are so happy you enjoyed the views from Mirador de los Cóndores and the visit to the waterfall. Thank you for mentioning Walter and the organization of the tour. We hope those photos of Mount Fitz Roy turned out amazing. Best regards!"

Good way to learn about El Chalten and Patagonian history, flora fauna and climate

Gobinda_S, Dec 2025
This is a really good tout to learn a lot about El Chalten and Southern Patagonia. Our guide Walter was an amazing person and wealth of information. His English is fantastic, he talks about a lot about the Patagonian history, flora, fauna, geography, geology and many things. He took lot of time to take us to nice view points, great short hike to condor view point and water falls. The only reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars is that in this tour you will not get up close view of El Chalten as shown in the Viator ad. The pictures in the ad are misleading. If you want to see El Chalten up close, you need to chose different tours with much longer hikes. But again, this is a very good tour by itself to learn about El Chalten city and the peaks.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

"We are so happy you enjoyed the hikes to the Condor viewpoint and the waterfalls with Walter! It’s great to know his English and knowledge made a difference. We sincerely take note of your comment and thank you for helping us improve, and we hope you take home wonderful memories of the Fitz Roy views!"

A day spent well

Anonymous, Dec 2025
Very well planned tour. Louise, Martin and Rodrigo ensured every minute of the tour was planned and managed efficiently. They gave a lot of information on the way. Hiking trails were just right and waterfalls was beautiful. We even had time to take a stroll in El Chalten. We are vegetarians and food was very good.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

We’re so glad you enjoyed the waterfalls and the time in El Chaltén. A big thank you from Louise, Martin, and Rodrigo for your recognition. We also appreciate your mention of the vegetarian food; we want every guest to have a delicious experience. See you next time!"

The magic Patagonia

Valeria_M, Dec 2025
The excursion is great, you will be able to enjoy the Chalten and understand the different landscapes. And if you are lucky to see the Chaltén mountain (Fitz Roy). Take into account that it is a long trip (11-12 hours).

Response from Host, Jan 2026

"Glad you had a great time! 🏔️ Seeing the Fitz Roy is definitely the highlight of the trip. Thank you for your feedback regarding the duration; Distances in Patagonia are long. Hope to welcome you back soon!"

Great team

Marcus_E, Dec 2025
Our guide Sandra was amazing. The driver was very "efficient" without being too speedy, which was perfect as it's a long drive to El Chaltén. Be warned you wait for ~2 hours in El Chaltén for other independent hikers to return for the bus. But we had some nice ice cream and got to know our fellow travelers so it wasn't a problem

Response from Host, Jan 2026

We'll be sure to pass your kind words along to Sandra and our driver. We’re glad that you had a rewarding day and enjoyed meeting your fellow travelers. We hope to see soon.

too long for too little

Kevin_G, Dec 2025
Too long of a trip for a one hour mountain hike, no worth it. Tour was not completely in English was done in both Spanish and English making it confusing and overwhelmed.

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Hello, and thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the tour did not fully meet your expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify a few important points for future travelers. Our Full Day El Chaltén tour includes two hikes: Mirador del Cóndor: approximately 1.5 hours, Salto del Chorrillo: about 40 minutes in total, exactly as described in the official tour information and as carried out on the day of your visit. It’s also important to keep in mind that El Chaltén is located 450 km round-trip from El Calafate, so travel time is naturally part of this full-day excursion. The remoteness of the destination is precisely what makes it so unique. Regarding the language, the tour is bilingual (Spanish–English), which is clearly indicated prior to booking. In Argentina, and especially on regular shared excursions, it is standard and necessary to provide commentary in both languages, as we welcome a large number of Spanish-speaking visitors along with international travelers. All guests receive the same information; we simply deliver it in both languages to ensure everyone can follow the experience equally. We still appreciate your comment, as it helps us continue improving. We hope you enjoy the rest of your journey through Patagonia.

Antoine_E, Nov 2025
We were taken to two Chalten treks. One was a waterfall, and the other one was the Condor viewpoint. Then we were given some free time in the city. Unfortunately that time wasn't enough to do any of the treks so we had to mostly loiter around the city. If I were to do this again, I'd definitely take the free self-guided option.

good experience but too...

Massimo_M, Nov 2025
good experience but too long trip, short Ike, wasting time in El Chalten village(nothing to do there)

Disappointing.

alison_r, Nov 2025
The day before I was sent totally incorrect information. Luckily we were staying close to the office so we walked in to clarify. The bus you’re on is actually 2 different tours, plus it’s also a transport service. So the guide had to explain things several times for the different groups in Spanish and English. When we got to El Chaltern we had a 90 minute hike, then a 90 minute lunch, then about a half hour trip to a waterfall. Then 2 hours ‘free time’ in the town, with no suggestions what to do apart from ‘have a coffee’ . There’s not much to do there, we had a walk around and walked by the river. Then we had to be back on the bus by 5, and had to wait around for the ‘ independent hikers’, then drove round town picking up people from hotels who were going back to El Calafate. Might have given it 2 stars if the weather had been better but it was horrible ( not their fault I know!) We actually thought it was more of a bus service than a tour. Also, every tour operator tells you that you have to buy National Park tickets in advance. This isn’t true, you can buy them at the gate using cash or Visa card. Also you can buy a 2 day pass, and the 2nd day’s is half price.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Hello, yes, our tour does indeed have two options: guided and self-guided. You can see this in the description when you book. You can even change options during the trip since they are the same price. As you described in your comment, we provided all the services advertised. We provided transportation, you had the assistance of our guide, and I'm sure lunch at Rancho Grande was good; otherwise, you would have criticized it as well. Honestly, I don't understand what went so wrong that you gave us such a low rating. Oh, now I remember, the weather wasn't good, although we can't guarantee that. Regards.

easy-going trip — perfect if you want to explore the surroundings of El Chaltén

Elli_F, Nov 2025
It was a pleasant and quite relaxing tour. We saw beautiful scenery and heard fascinating historical facts about Argentina along the way. The tour included two short treks: one uphill to a viewpoint and another shorter, flat one leading to a waterfall. Lunch was at a nice restaurant and it was great! We also had some free time to stroll around El Chaltén, a very charming and peaceful little town. Both the guide and the driver were friendly and professional. The guide spoke both English and Spanish (his English is very good!). He explained many things, was always willing to help, answer questions, and even take photos for us. It’s an easy-going trip — perfect if you want to explore the surroundings of El Chaltén.

Blair_C, Nov 2025
Another great day trip by South Road in perfect weather. Amazing scenery, well organised, Martin was excellent as the guide. There was a brief stop at La Leona, lots of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid memorabilia there as they spent a month there hiding out. Further on we saw the long line of mountains, glacier and lake constantly. Mt Fitzroy is the main attraction but far from the only one. In El Chalten we walked up a hill for a better view of Fitzroy, the town and other mountains. Lunch was included and was very good. Afterwards there was a short forest walk to a waterfall and then an hour or so of free time in the town before driving back to El Calafate non-stop. It was a really good and relaxing day and much recommended.

Fun and friendly tour of Fitzroy and El Chalten

Natalie_B, Sep 2025
Walter and Martin were exceptional guides, providing relevant commentary on the geography, history, wildlife, and features of the region. We got to see Andean condors, Argentinian woodpeckers, Llama, alpaca. Both Martín and Walter were funny, thoughtful, and excellent photographers!, going out of their way to ensure everyone had a memorable day with photos to prove it. The hike was achievable with older guests and young children able to complete it, and it offered splendid views of Fitzroy. We were blessed with such lovely weather. Lunch was fine, busy but fine. As the only native English speaker on the Spanish speaking majority tour, the kindness of everyone to ensure I was included was really heartwarming. It was a fantastic day.

As advertised...

Sasha_R, Jun 2025
We enjoyed the views on a nice and sunny day. In June, very little crowds at tourist sites due to low season. Lots of wildlife to see. Food at the restaurant was good as well. Tour is exactly as advertised. Our guide Anahi was great and was able to provide us information in English.

Must seen when in patagonia

El Chalten is great!

The trip to El Chalten was awesome. The town was magical. The hike was cool and the view above the condor lookout was captivating. It was an amazing experience. My friends and I were very satisfied. We had cool pictures.
