If you want to visit Spinalonga, use a different tour company. 1) The air conditioner on the bus didnt work on a 41C/105F day. 2) Instead of 1 central pickup locations, there were 10 separate pick-up/drop off areas that added 2 hours each way for travel with no direct pick up or drop off. 3) The “lunch” was not served until after 3:30pm even though the first pickups started at 7am. 4) The food was mediocre at best. There was uncooked veggie patties for vegetarians and dry/heavily salted pork. 5) The pick up from the boat was a 10 minute walk even though buses were allowed to pick you up at the port. 6) The Spinalonga tours are separated by language which is nice. However, there are no announcements about which language is which tour.

History of Spinalonga. Great tour guide, very clear in multiple languages. Thank you Panos! The opportunity to swim in the gorgeous water. Mix with other tourists. A BBQ lunch with salad and beverages were included. It was fun shopping in Agios Nicholas too. I would do it again.

Agios Nikolaos is beautiful and we enjoyed the day overall! That said, we were disappointed in the Spinalonga portion.
We were told once we got off the boat we would be split by language and go with a tour guide. This turned out to be very disorganized once we reached the island, with several guides trying to make sense of the crowd and who was taking whom. We were then told there was no one to conduct the English tour for another 30-40 minutes and that we could walk around if we wanted or wait for a guide. We took some photos and wandered but figured we would have a better experience seeing the island with a tour guide.
Once we met with a guide she described and led us through a single street and repeatedly asked if we had seen the other highlights of the island, scoffing when we said we had not. This was frustrating, as we were led to believe that a tour guide would be the one to “tour” us through these highlights.
After finishing her “street tour” we only had fifteen minutes before our boat was scheduled to leave. We rushed to explore on our own, but missed out on most of the highlights.
In waiting for the tour guide we were led to believe that she would show us around the island; we wish someone would have said to explore most of the island on our own. If you find yourself without a tour guide after arriving, we suggest exploring the island on your own.

We are very impressed by what happened, since during the many years that we operate and organize the tour to the island of Spinalonga, it is the first time that what you declare has happened, after informing us with the person in charge of the tour, all the people in the group They were with their respective guides, apparently only you had that bad experience.
We are sorry that it happened and that you were not able to take the tour as scheduled.
All our best wishes!!

Agios Nikolaos and Spinalonga were very good and fascinating.
However the transfer there and back were not so nice. Too many stops/pick ups, also changes of vehicles made it a very long day. The guide, Poppy, she was good.

We are very sorry to hear that it was a tiring experience, however, we are glad to hear you enjoyed the sights.
Our best wishes!

Agios is a beautiful seaside town with quaint character. Spinalonga is fascinating and very interesting to visit. This is a enjoyable trip for the destinations, however you travel in a packed bus full of people. You make several stops on the way to the port and returning. The drive there is interesting in that you do learn the history of the area you travel past. Poppy our tour leader really does a wonderful job explaining in several languages and clear communication throughout the trip. If you do not mind a crowd then this trip is for you. It was a very hot day, the trip felt long and so it was a bit underwhelming for our taste. I would do a smaller group tour for this if we had to do it over again.

Dear Madame,
Definitely, mini-group tours or private tours are much more comfortable. However, regular group tours offer you the possibility to travel in the most budget way and without driving on your own.
We still hope you enjoyed your time!

The guide Eirini was very knowledgable. The bbq was lovely and the swim at kolokitha was great (just enough time to cool us down).

The entire crew was amazing. They were very informative and kept us updated on the road about the towns and their history. The beach was awesome. We did not want to get out of the water. I didn’t expect all the amazing BBQ. Very organized crew ……. My husband and I highly recommend the tour.

I'm not sure how to rate this trip. I went with my partner. First of all they pick you up from your hotel which is very easy and you then drive to elounda which was really lovely with information from a tour guide on the bus. You then go to spinalonga. It was extremely busy. I ended up going swimming instead but my partner walked round which he said was nice. We then went to a little island and had a BBQ on the boat which I feel did not work well. I think the BBQ should be off the boat it would make it easier. We then went to agios nikolous. Overall, it was a nice day but very hot and very busy. Not sure id go again.

Dear Madame,
In August all the very famous spots of the island are very crowded. Next time try to travel in the lower season, e.g. June, or early July or late September, all the sights that you will visit are much more enjoyable!
I hope you understand that when you rate a tour or activity here on TripAdvisor, you first of all rate our business and the work of our agency. How organized the trip was, how easy was the communication with you before the tour, how good was the tour guide, etc. Definitely, the beauty/interest of the sight plays its role in your reviews, but the fact the places were crowded is something out of our power and actually pretty normal for this period of time.
I hope you still enjoyed your day!
Kind regards,

It was a great experience. We enjoyed seeing the history and the swimming was very fun. Meal was good although a little overcooked.
Would recommend. Our guide was first rate.

Pick up needed to be better. I was sent a map and told to stand in front of building on one side of road. Other couple sent to same pick up spot told to stand on other side of road. Driver could only find the other couple. I have a feeling if I hadn’t called within 10 mins of not being picked up, I would have been left. I will give them credit for sending someone out to look for me, but it shouldn’t have been needed as I was standing exactly in front of the fish stop where I was told to stand. The tour itself was good. The guide is basically just going to give you a brief multilingual spiel on the bus and then set you free for a certain period of time. We got around 90-120 mins in Agios Nicolas and the same in Spinalonga, which felt like enough time. And then about an hour to swim off an island followed by lunch on the boat. You can leave your swim stuff on the boat/bus so you don’t have to cart it around. Boat had decent sized toilets to change in.

Thank you for the detailed review! Unfortunately, sometimes mistakes happen, obviously there was a miscommunication with the bus driver. We are very sorry for this inconvenience, but really glad you still enjoyed your tour!
