    We were met at the ship...

    We were met at the ship by our guide. Great! It was very hot in Colombo and our guide offered us the choice of very nice A/C car or tuk tuk. Since we were in a tuk tuk the day before we opted for the car. Very good decision. Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. We toured all the major points of interest and stopped at to shop for tea and spices. After our tour we taken back to the ship.Literally a few steps from the ship’s entrance. Great tour. Very happy that we booked with Viatar!

    Sadly we just didn't get the tour we paid for. It started well enough but after a visit to the back of the mosque and a temple, we instead started to visit 'freinds' of the driver. One pointed to a tree in a park, then asked for money and that continued throughout. We also went to a tea shop, a jewellery shop and a gift shop but missed out on much that was advertised and that we paid to see, including the temple on the lake- the main reason for us booking. To top it off, from one of the shops, near to the port, the driver drove back to the centre and demanded more money to take us back to the ship! We complained to the manager who did offer to take us in a car to the things we missed out on but neither my wife or I felt safe in doing so, who knows what they would have asked for? Avoid the company at all cost, but Colombo is a great city at least

    Good tour but just be advised this tour is purely a tuk tuk around and doesn’t cover any entrance costs to anything you might visit. There seems to be a lot of visits to temples where there’s an entrance fee that you pay to driver. Best advice is be firm and visit sights and only visit temples you genuinely want to visit or trip could get costly. At the end they will try to take you to obligatory spice shop, jewellery shop etc, just refuse if you don’t want to go. Other than that great little tour.
