We booked the 1-day private Yala Leopard Safari from Colombo for over $1,200 for two people, so we expected a premium experience. Unfortunately, it did not meet those expectations. The drive from Colombo was excellent. The driver was professional, polite, the vehicle was comfortable with good air conditioning, and everything was well organized. However, the actual safari was disappointing. The safari jeep was in very poor condition, old, uncomfortable, and not what you would expect for a tour at this price. The park also felt almost empty. During the safari we only saw one elephant and one leopard. Of course, wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, but for the amount we paid, the overall experience simply wasn't worth it. The food was another disappointment. Instead of providing a quality meal, we had to argue just to get something other than curry and rice. For a tour costing over $1,200, a proper lunch with seafood or several meal options should be included without guests having to ask repeatedly. Looking back, I would rather travel to Yala independently by bus from Colombo and book a safari locally. It would cost a fraction of the price while offering a very similar experience. I cannot recommend this tour based on the value for money.
