Absolute must do. Ash was amazing. Really enjoyable day!! So early in your trip so you know where all the great eateries are.

    Not the best experience

    Rolf_M, Mar 2026
We are not doing a lot of food tours, but usually they have been a lot of fun, about food specialties of the town and other information about the destination. This was more like a paid lunch with strangers (nice ones), but not worth the time and money. Sorry, the guide is a nice guy, but it is just not done how it should be done, at least not in my opinion.

    Response from Host, Mar 2026

Kia ora Rolf, Ngā mihi — thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Kai Bites is crafted as a cultural experience: a moment to connect with a local Māori host, hear the stories of our people and place, and enjoy kai that reflects our values of connection and hospitality. On the day of your tour, the city experienced an influx of visitors for a major annual event, so the experience was slightly modified to ensure an enjoyable and timely journey for guests. We are pleased to hear you found Riwai to be a nice guy, and we’re sorry our style wasn’t quite what you were hoping for. We appreciate you joining us and sharing your perspective as we continue to refine how we describe the experience, and will use your feedback for ongoing training and improvements. Ngā mihi

    A Thoroughly Enjoyable Tour

    Sharon_S, Mar 2026
Wow Ash our amazing tour guide was a lovely person and you couldn’t help but warm to her instantly and even more so as you got to know her heritage and all about what Christchurch has to offer. If you want good food but also a lovely paced cultural experience then this is the tour for you. Thoroughly enjoyed this and was a perfect way to spend our last day in Christchurch. Thank you Ash xx

    Response from Host, Mar 2026

Kia ora Sharon Thank you so much for your lovely words. We’re delighted to hear that Ash made you feel so welcome — she has a special way of sharing her whakapapa, her stories, and her love for Ōtautahi in a way that brings people in straight away. Our tours are designed as gently paced cultural experiences, where good kai, local insights, and meaningful connection come together. It’s wonderful to hear it was a memorable way to spend your final day in Christchurch. Ngā mihi nui for choosing to spend that time with us, and for acknowledging Ash in such a heartfelt way.

    Prepare to be Wowed

    Donna_C, Mar 2026
This was so much fun! Ash was the best tour guide. She took us to amazing places where we had delicious food and samples. Ash is also very knowledgeable about Christchurch and its history. My husband and I were sad when this tour was over as we had so much fun with Ash. Our hearts and bellies were very content.

    A delightfully enthusiastic guide!

    Joachim_H, Feb 2026
I joined this food walking tour in Christchurch today and had a really lovely experience. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, which made it easy to enjoy both the food and the conversations along the way. Our guide was excellent — very knowledgeable and engaging. She shared in-depth insights about Māori history and culture, which added an important and meaningful layer to the tour beyond just the food. It made the experience feel much richer and more connected to the place. For other travelers, I’d say this tour is perfect if you want more than just tastings. It’s a great way to learn about Christchurch’s history and culture while enjoying local food in a relaxed small-group setting. I would definitely recommend it. Thank you so much, Asch!!

    Great history and awesome food

    Keith_L, Feb 2026
Wonderful tour. The history was great and did not repeat anything we had heard in our previous tours. The food and beverages were amazing. Widely varied and all great.

    Great time and good recommendations

An Amazing Food Tour - Grab a Spot!

Sign up for Mr. Gracie's incredible tour! This the best tour we had in New Zealand! You won't find a better guide who is kind, fun, knowledgeable, a perfect people-person who demostrates how we arrive as strangers, and leave as friends. His Christchurch experience is now a beautiful memory and experience. We loved the places he chose to have a wonderful group lunch, wonderful coffee and ice cream! Mr. Gracie is engaging, humorous and genuine. Thank you for an exceptional tour! It was a pleasure to meet you!

Excellent Food Tour with a Historical and Cultural Backdrop

    Michael_R, Feb 2026
Ash did a wonderful job providing a historical and cultural backdrop at the outset. There were so many places to eat in the area that walking was kept to a minimum which was good because our tour was conducted in the rain. Proprietors all went out of their way to be accommodating - they clearly knew and liked Ash. She was also concerned about my food allergy at all times. I visited a couple of other places afterward that we did not stop at during the tour but Ash had recommended and they were good as well. An overall fun experience!

    Response from Host, Feb 2026

Kia ora Michael, Thank you for your thoughtful review. We’re delighted you had a great experience with Ash — wild weather and all! She’ll be so pleased to know her blend of cultural and historical storytelling set the scene for your evening. We’re glad her adjusted, shorter walking route kept things comfortable in the rain, and that our hospitality partners took such good care of you. Wonderful too that her extra recommendations led you to more great spots after the tour. Thank you for mentioning the care around your food allergy — keeping everyone safe and at ease is really important to us. We’re grateful you joined us and hope to welcome you back for more flavours and stories next time you’re in Ōtautahi. Ngā mihi nui, The Āmiki Tours whānau

    Wonderful experience

    Virginia_E, Feb 2026
It was a wonderful experience overall! Ash, our guide, did a great job blending information about the history and culture of Christchurch with information about current day Christchurch. Food and drinks were delicious!

    Response from Host, Feb 2026

Kia ora Virginia, Thank you so much for choosing to spend your time with us. We’re delighted to hear you had a wonderful experience with Ash. She loved hosting you and will be so happy to know her kai choices hit the mark — and that the blend of history, culture, and present‑day Ōtautahi made the tour meaningful for you. Great guide, not so great food.

    Robert_M, Jan 2026
Our guide Ash was fantastic. Very engaging and knowledgeable. The food however, was not very good. Didn’t expect to sit at one restaurant (not a great one at that) and have a meal. So food aside, tour was insightful, learned a lot about NZ and history, but food was meh.

    Response from Host, Jan 2026

Kia ora Robert. Ngā mihi nui. Thank you for taking the time share your thoughts. We’re glad you enjoyed Ash’s engaging style while sharing our home town recommendations. We’re sorry to hear that the food didn't align with your expectations. We choose our food partners carefully and are disappointed to hear it wasn't up to our usual standards. Your comments have been noted we will incorporate your feedback for upskilling and training our guides and partners. This sort of feedback us so valuable and we will also be revisiting our marketing to better reflect what’s included. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Mā te wā | Until next time.

Terrific tour that was tailored to my individual needs!

    Wendy_B, Jan 2026
A great tour that includes sightseeing of Christchurch, some insight into how the city has changed after the earthquakes and excellent tastings of local food, wine, chocolate and ice cream. Using a walker and being short of breath, I was concerned about keeping up with the group so I was lucky to have Ash all to myself for the same price. She tailored the walk to my needs and gave me excellent insight into the Māori culture in Christchurch. A most enjoyable tour, thank you!

    Response from Host, Jan 2026

Kia ora Wendy, we are so pleased that we were able to offer you an extra special New Years Eve opportunity with Ash. She loved meeting you and enjoyed hearing about your travels. We are so happy to hear that you were able to enjoy the experience and gained some valuable insight into our culture and home town. Mā te wā | until next time

So Glad we got Ash to tour us!!!

    Annette_F, Jan 2026
Ash did a wonderful job of guiding and teaching us about the post earthquake reality of Christchurch. Her knowledge of the Māori culture also was a credit to the tour. The food was fabulous at Kaiser as was the Pilsner. This tour was a definite hit, one to be remembered. This is a definite recommendation.

    Response from Host, Jan 2026

Kia ora Annette, Ngā mihi nui! Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely words and recommendation. We love to hear how our guides are hosting and we will make sure that Ash receives this feedback. She loves sharing our culture and hometown and the Kaiser Pilsner has a very special story. We love knowing the tour was a hit and you have taken some memories home with you and we are so pleased you enjoyed it. Mā te wā | until next time

    Nothing short of extraordinary.....

    Mark_R, Jan 2026
Our guide was Ash. She began by explaining about New Zealand history and more importantly, culture of family through generations. We made our way through a fabulous set of food and drink experiences. A delicious lunch at the Riverside market, chocolate to die for, honey and mead for all sorts of therapeutic needs and finally wonderful gelato. All locally sourced and made by small independent businesses. Ash made us feel like part of her family and has a brightness and charm that we will not soon forget. Thank you Ash for this amazing experience.

    Response from Host, Jan 2026

Ngā mihi nui Mark! Thank you so much for sharing such a heartfelt review! We’re thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed your time with Ash. Her passion for sharing in our unique way is something we’re very proud to highlight, and it’s wonderful that it resonated with you. We’re delighted you loved the mix of experiences — from your lunch to the locally made chocolate, honey, mead, and gelato. Supporting small, independent businesses is at the heart of what we do, and it’s great to know those flavors left such an impression. Ash’s warmth and charm truly make guests feel at home, and we’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to her. Thank you again for joining us and for celebrating our hometown with us!

    Our tour guide was quite...

    Dona_V, Jan 2026
Our tour guide was quite lovely and was able to give a personal feel to the experience. There was one main restaurant that was clearly chosen as a one size fits all for a wide variety of palates/food restrictions, which is not common from prior experiences on food tours, where there’s usually a sampling for folks to chose from while walking the city. Downside is that took a bunch of time and we didn’t travel very far, but upside is the food there was really very good. Discussion was excellent. It’s more of a really nice meal and conversation with a Christchurch native, rather than a traditional food tour. And we did visit other shops on the same area including an excellent chocolate store. Family still enjoyed it without regrets, would do again, just know what you’re getting.

    Response from Host, Jan 2026

Kia ora Dona, Ngā mihi nui. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughtful feedback. We’re glad your whānau | family enjoyed the experience. We’re delighted you enjoyed the warmth and personal touch of your guide, as well as the quality of the food and conversation. To give a little more context, the sit‑down component of the tour is designed to reflect the Māori concepts of tapu and noa — sacredness and balance — which emphasise the importance of sharing food in a respectful, communal way. This tradition is woven into the experience to create a deeper cultural connection alongside the meal. We appreciate your note about the structure of the tour and will continue refining it with your perspective in mind. We’re so glad to hear you would join us again. Thank you for helping future guests understand what to expect and for choosing to spend your time with us in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. Safe travels. Mā te wā | Until next time

    Worth the time and money

    raju_n, Dec 2025
It is under three hours and includes a three course lunch (we had it at a local brewery in Riverside Market) and craft beer followed by stops for chocolate, a honey store and gelato. The guide is great and you get a sense of the city and its culinary and other facts. Of course it depends on the questions you have. We were just three of us and it was a good way to spend an mid-morning day in Christchurch.

    Response from Host, Jan 2026

Ngā mihi nui Raju, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the sit down component and sweet treats. The flow is designed to give a snapshot of Christchurch’s local flavors, and we’re glad you found them enjoyable. Our guides love tailoring the conversation to guests’ interests, so it’s wonderful to hear you appreciated the insights and city facts. With a smaller group, the experience often feels more personal and relaxed, and we’re delighted it was a good way for you to spend a time in our home town in Christchurch. Thank you again for joining us! Mā te wā | Until next time

    Don't miss this opportunity!

    Janis_S, Dec 2025
The leader was terrific at tailoring the event to the dietary needs and personal preferences of the participants. We liked the inclusion of Maori culture and sites in the city we would not have found without guidance. Children enjoyed the experience.

    Response from Host, Dec 2025

Kia ora Janis, thank you so much for taking the time to share your review. We loved hosting you too and love that your children enjoyed the experience too. Safe travels. Mā te wā | Until next time.

    Christchurch an Intentional Inclusive City

    CRAIG_R, Nov 2025
Our Klan had a wonderful time on this tour with our guide, Emily. We started with a delicious lunch at Kaiser’s Brew Garden and then explored Christchurch’s past and present through Emily’s engaging stories. A standout moment was the phenomenal interactive historical screen at the Christchurch Library. Emily also gave us great dinner recommendations—we chose King of Snake, and it was perfect. The tour wrapped up with a delicious treat from the world-famous Rollickin Gelato, the sweetest ending to a fantastic day.

    A must-do in Christchurch!

    Amanda_L, Oct 2025
My friend and I loved this tour! We felt like we learned a lot. We would recommend doing this at the beginning of your time in Christchurch because we got some great advice from Ash on other things to do in the area. The food on this tour was great. Ash was an awesome guide—so friendly and knowledgeable.

Fun Day with a Fantastic Host, But Overpriced

    Emilly_B, Sep 2025
The walking tour was a great day out—fun, enjoyable, and well-organised. Our host was fantastic—very charismatic, funny, and made the experience engaging from start to finish. However, I found it to be very overpriced. The rough calculations of what was included versus what you actually received didn’t quite add up in terms of value. I would still recommend the experience for the enjoyment, but be prepared that the price feels extremely high for a walking tour.

    Response from Host, Sep 2025

Kia ora Emily, Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. We are delighted to hear that you had a fun and enjoyable time on our cultural food experience, and that our host made the walking tour engaging and memorable. It's always wonderful to hear that the energy and charisma of our team helped make your day so special. We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the pricing. We strive to offer a well-rounded and high-quality experience, and your comments help us reflect on how we can continue to improve the value we provide to our guests. Transparency and guest satisfaction are very important to us, so we’ll certainly take your input into consideration on how to continually add value for our guests. Thank you again for your recommendation—it truly means a lot to us. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future! Mā te wā | Until next time.

Superb food and cultural walking tour!

    Paul_D, Jun 2025
Truly enjoyable, interesting and varied walking tour at a leisurely pace. Ashley, our guide was very knowledgeable, happy and friendly. The food was amazing and the cultural introduction to Christchurch was superb. I definitely recommend this tour!

    Good tour that’s worth doing

    Michael_C, Mar 2025
We really enjoyed the walking tour of Christchurch with Ash. She was engaging. A little Māori culture, a little Christchurch history, we tasted chocolate then lunch and drinks and Gelato to finish. Very enjoyable. I probably would have preferred more small food tastings than sitting down for lunch, but that doesn’t take away from a very good tour that’s just my preference.

    Fantastic Tour

    Allison_T, Mar 2025
Ash was a wonderful guide! She lent such a lovely spirit to the tour sharing about her city. I learned so much and the food was so good!

    Better than expected! Good Value!

    Martine_P, Mar 2025
If you’re visiting Christchurch I’d highly recommend spending your time with Riwi Grace with Amiki Cultural Food Tours! The conversations were deep in Māori culture sprinkled in with plenty of food and beverage for lunch, ice cream, coffee and chocolate.

    Christchurch food and historical tour

    Kent_W, Feb 2025
The guide was knowledge and toured us through the most important segments of the city, showing the devastating earthquake effects and the reconstruction processes. Lunch was excellent, there was a chocolate tasting, a Manuka honey tasting good and ice cream.

    Magnificent Tour

    KATHY_G, Feb 2025
EMILY was terrific! She was a fountain of information about the city & shared about the Maori people including her personal family connections. She made the city come alive for us, and the food was tremendous that she ordered. What a treat to have her as our guide & to see Christchurch through her eyes. Couldn't have asked for a better tour.

    Christchurch CBD tour with lunch

Most informative, educational and enjoyable. Lunch and ice cream were excellent. Recommendations of further places to visit were appreciated. Highly recommend the tour. Thank you Riwai for an excellent tour
