Willowbank, a beautiful wildlife reserve
Joseph was a wonderful guide and driver for us, providing many insights into the effects of the earthquakes in Christchurch in 2010 and 2011, and how the city rebuilt itself.
Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is a superb place to meet and learn about many animals and birds, including a viewing of the kiwi.
We could have done with more time there.
The bus was quite cold, especially as the temperature outside was also quite cold.

This was a great place to...
This was a great place to go with the family. We loved everything about the park. Being about to pat or feed some of the animals was great too!

Recommend taking a half day to see!
Wonderful day with the whole family. Froom feeding Eels to watching all the animals enjoy their habitat, it was a great way to spend the day.

I liked the nature...
I liked the nature preserve. It had lush greenery and walkable paths. One thing though they needed better signage on their gravel paths. We did see a kiwi which was the highlight of the visit! Since they are nocturnal the building was dark. It took a few minutes for our eyes to adjust coming in from the sunlight. We ate at the cafeteria and had a delicious sandwich with fries.

City tour plus wildlife
This tour provides you with a mix of city highlights and wildlife. The wildlife portion has a guided section including a lot of information on the kiwi bird. Then you get time on your own to explore. This tour doesn’t feel rushed

Great tour
Scotty our guide was excellent gave great commentary. Very informative. Wildlife park small but we saw the new Zealand animals we came to see. Our only complaint was with the inconsiderate people on the tour. 1st stop had to wait for 20minutes for 2 to get coffee
Next were the 2after lunch who strolled back late. No consideration for fellow passengers.

So good!
Fabulous experience. Worth every penny!!!! I missed this tour when my husband had to have his appendix out. So glad I got to do this. Christchurch is a beautiful little city with the river running through it, and wonderful gardens. The animals were really fun to see and the distance wasn’t terrible, so lots of viewing time.

There is a luggage storage area in the main building.
Willowbank is mostly accessible to wheelchair users. A loaner mobility scooter is available with advance booking.
