Check the weather before heading there as visibility is the main experience. The ride is lovely and anyone can enjoy it
Andy_N, Apr 2026
I'd happen to pick a cloudy day and therefore can't see anything from the mountain. You can hike around the mountain, which Is nice. A short ride on a toy train with a short show inside is nice.

A good way to pass a few hours in Christchurch.
The views from the top of the gondola ride are well worth it.
Punting on the Avon was also very enjoyable thanks to the friendly staff.

Great value. I was stunned by the views. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cafe at the top was brilliant and I got a great coffee cup at the gift shop. Thanks 👍 Steve from Melbourne

The weather was very poor at the bottom but was fine by the time we reached the top, so we were pleased we didn't change our minds. The views are amazing and the food and service at the café was terrific. The prices in the shop were surprisingly reasonable and we spent up big
AnnMaree_M, Mar 2026

View from the top was beautiful! E could see the entire area on both sides of the mountain. There was a great gift shop at the top and nice cafe as well
Patty_H, Feb 2026
nice experience and got some good pics at the top. only 4 to a car so it’s a bit of a wait. we got there at 10 and up probably about 1030
Vincent_S, Feb 2026
Do it. Very worth while experience, if your a walker there's a fantastic well worn mountain side path back down which I would have used if I'd been aware
Gina_W, Feb 2026
Very enjoyable — nice facility, great views at the top. The ride was smooth, we even saw sheep, bonus!
Sharon_F, Feb 2026
Worth the trip to the top for the view. Lovely service by all staff and a nice café to relax. Suggest to sit facing the top if you are a little nervous!

Wow, the views were stunning on the way up and down the gondola. The views from the gondola top station were amazing! As we walked around the top we were presented with spectacular panoramic views of Lyttelton harbour, the Christchurch cityscape, across the plains to the southern alps and very long beaches. 360 degree views! Follow the map provided and do the discovery ride at the bottom of the top station! It was a highlight of our experience. It was a busy day when we visited and worth the wait.

It's fun and there is a lot to see on the trip up the hill and at the lookout. Lots of yummy food available

Gondola ride was not as spectacular as we had hoped, however gift shop at the top had very good prices and we were able to do a lot of souvenir purchases. The punt boat ride was beautiful and relaxing. We had asked for an earlier time since our cruise departed early. We were told we could not do earlier even as we were checking in for punt ride however they sold tickets to others. We had to uber back to ship instead of using our bus passes. Apparently they don’t like accommodating those who have already purchased .

We did the combination Avon River punting, and the gondola to the top of that mountain. Both experiences are very good our river punting captain, Jack, was very friendly, informative, and comical. On the gondola you get to have a nice panoramic view of the whole area. I recommend.

The kids really loved it. Although the weather wasn’t perfectly clear, we were still able to see most of Christchurch. In particular, the complimentary Level 1 attractions included in the ticket were very engaging for the children, which made the experience even more worthwhile. Seeing the sheep up close outdoors was also a great highlight. However, since the gondola is located quite far from the city center, you need to allow more time than expected for the visit.
Mary_K, Jan 2026
A fun and beautiful way to see Christchurch. There are beautiful paths to walk on right along side sheep! Fun way to spend a couple of hours
Vickie_R, Jan 2026
Try to go on a clear day so you can see the mountain range.
This is a must see. Besides the beautiful vantage points, you get to see sheep grazing the mountainsides. The port of Littleton and several bodies of water.
If you go on a Saturday, it’s a quick bus ride to Littleton where they have live music, farmers market, and great artisan booths.
Bev_A, Jan 2026
Go early as less people and well worth the trip.
The city bus is an easy way to get there from Littleton or Christchurch.
Marcelle_F, Jan 2026
A must see & do in Christchurch. Buying tickets online is easy & allows less waiting time. The ride and views truly amazing
Katrina_G, Dec 2025
Fantastic experience with amazing views.
I would recommend to others. It is a great experience for everyone.
There is a cafe and gift shop up the top too.
Ruth_M, Dec 2025
My family and I had a good time, loved the views, the gift shop was great, also had a meal at the restaurant below the cafe.
Raj_R, Dec 2025
A cloudy morning, but lovely otherwise. A wonderful viewing platform with a cafe and shop at the top.
Ikke_Z, Dec 2025
Wonderful experience. Just showed our tickets to to the ticket office and off we go. The place is clean, well organized and maintained. Breathtaking views from the top. After comparing some prices with other place, this gift shop offered correctly price items, so don't hesitate to grab few souvenir. The cafe offered good snack. Overall a wonderful experience. We enjoyed it very much !

This was a great experience - we booked the tix - then, on site, added the all-day tram. Discount was applied. Easily accessed getting to the gondola using ship’s free shuttle into Lyttleton then hopped on the #8 bus. After the gondola, hopped back on the #8 to the city bus terminal (clean and user friendly) - tram stop was just a few blocks walk. Tram guide was fabulous - upbeat and knowledgeable. Many options to ‘hop on and off’ all day for sites and eateries.
Keith_A, Dec 2025
There is a car park at the base station. Not that big, so a morning ride may be better.
If the cloud is not present, the views are excellent and well worth the short ride to the summit. At the summit is a good cafe, shop and also a discovery exhibition which is well worth it. All the staff were brilliant.
