Enoch Lokwa was a great guide. He was very patient when we had to reschedule due to issues with our cruise ship. We were very lucky to see elephants, lions, hippos, and rhinos. Unfortunately we had bad weather but apparently that’s when you get to see the hippos walking around so it worked out!

Nothing to see very few animals 2hours from cape town for few animlas that you can see in any zoo very over priced

As this is a large private game reserve, animal sightings can’t be guaranteed since the animals roam freely in their natural habitat, unlike in a zoo. Each safari is unique and depends on natural conditions. Regarding the price, it reflects the long distance transport from Cape Town, professional guiding, and the overall safari experience.

The actual tour was fantastic and our driver , Enoch Mukidi lokwa, was superb!!!
However, we had booked a sunset tour months earlier and we're confirmed but two days prior we were changed to the day tour which is more expensive and possibly less likely to see all of the animals. It worked out fi e for us, but it seemed very unprofessional.

Aquila Game Reserve was a wonderful experience. The Reserve is massive and the lodge is just lovely. We saw 4 out of 5 of the Big 5 on a half day safari! I highly recommend Aquila Game Reserve!

Don’t go. Our “sunset tour was in the middle of the day. You won’t get what you pay for. Viator didn’t bother to pay for a park truck so when we got there we had to go early and pay an unexpected premium for another truck. We had to be back in time for our drivers to take out another group on a REAL sunset tour. That meant we only got 90 minutes instead of 2 hours. We should have just went to a zoo

Regarding the situation at the park, the Sunset Safari was fully booked, and to ensure you did not leave without a safari experience, our company arranged a private tour for your group. This was done so that you could still enjoy the game drive rather than having to return without experiencing the park at all.

Honestly, this was the worst tour we have booked during our travels over the past five years. The only saving grace of this outing was Enoch who tried his best to make the most of a trip that his company should have canceled. To begin with, we got a text letting us know that we needed to meet an hour earlier than the arranged pickup time, which started the day on a stressful note. Then, we drove two hours in a crowded and uncomfortable van with broken AC to arrive at the reserve where things got confusing and rushed. We were told that the sunset safari that we booked was sold out but that our guide had arranged for a private safari which would cost us 200 Rand more per person, but was actually 400 Rand more per person (almost $50). Instead of a multi-hour sunset tour, we paid extra for a rushed 1.5 hour tour (thankfully, the reserve guide was amazing) and were then rushed back into the van with no time for browsing souvenirs and drove almost three hours in a sweltering hot van back to the port in Cape Town. I arrived back drenched in sweat and with a pounding headache and wondering why on earth we paid so much for a miserable ride to and from the reserve for a more expensive afternoon tour. I realize Enoch was trying to avoid making it a 5 hour can ride with no safari, but it was truly an awful experience and a big disappointment. Don’t waste your time or money.

I do want to clarify a few points to give you a better picture of what happened. The arrangements for the private safari were made by the company, not by your guide. The guide simply communicated what was organized on our side, so the credit or concerns for those decisions belong with us — not him. I’m glad to hear that Enoch did his best under the circumstances.
Regarding the air-conditioning, we used a new-shape Quantum, which does have a functioning AC system, and it was operating on the day. We’re sorry if it didn’t cool the vehicle to your comfort level during the long drive.
Your feedback is very important to us, and we’ll be reviewing the entire experience to ensure this doesn’t happen again. We truly appreciate you bringing it to our attention, and we hope to have the opportunity to give you a much better experience in the future.

Its a 2hr drive to the reserve but our van had no perceptible air conditioning. A 4hr sauna. Then the tour company didn’t make a reservation for us at the Reserve and it was chaos. But our guide, Enoch, was a real trooper.

We would like to clarify that the booking was indeed made by our company. However, due to the safari being fully booked at the time of your arrival — and your reservation being a last-minute booking — Aquila arranged a private game drive to ensure you could still enjoy the experience.
Regarding the transport, we use the new-shape Quantum, which is equipped with air conditioning. We are therefore surprised to hear that it felt uncomfortable, but we will investigate this with our team to ensure everything was functioning properly.

This was a wonderful experience. I did both the day time and sunset safari and the sunset safari is hands down the better option. It was beautiful, the weather was wonderful, and the animals were so cool.
