Big rock cave

Nick_I, Jul 2022
It’s more of a rock cave than an actual salt mine. The carvings of the crosses were decent… nothing spectacular. It’s a huge place though and the girls we went with took a ton of pics and wanted to shop inside the mine. So by the time we got out, it was noon. We went to eat, then back to Bogota. The tour guide was super nice and talkative but we were bummed when she said we didn’t have time to go to the Zipaquira square. Would’ve been nice to at least drive past it but we didn’t see it at all.

Response from Host, Jul 2022

Hello, we are sorry that the salt cathedral did not meet your travel expectations, but in the product description it does not say that it is a salt mine and that they are going to show you the process, we understand that for your taste it is a simple rock, but our service is to take you comfortably in a private transport from your hotel and show them the first wonder of Colombia in architecture that they have a gastronomic experience by trying a typical dish of the region and that our guide supports them with all the possible information about Colombia and feel that Colombia is the country friendliest in the world and as you mention we fulfill it and if you wish you can book with us a tour to the Nemocon salt mine which is an active mine and they teach you the salt process and it is a different experience. we are here to serve you

Amazing guide and tour

William_K, Jul 2018
We spent 10 days in various parts of Colombia and the salt cathedral tour was one of our favorite tours. Our guide was incredible and the cathedral was mind blowing. Do not miss it!

This tour was a lovely way to spend the day. The Salt Cathedral has voice guides so you can tour at your own speed. The guide provides insight into the history of Colombian during the square tour and the lunch is a great way to try a traditional Colombian lunch. This tour is a must!

The Salt Cathedral was spectacular and Independence Square was definitely worth seeing. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable but not very talkative, so we had to ask a lot of questions. Overall good experience, but other group tours may be a better value.

Ian_P, Feb 2018
Takes an hour to get to the town. Not a lot of time to actually see the square. timing was based on getting to the Salt Cathedral. This is a bit cave like which did not appeal to me. Was on a tour for over an hour. You then have double back to get out. Big religious oriented lots of crosses. Afterwards I was not sure where to meet the guide and had to come back to the main exit. Watch there are 2 parking lots, one being lower. Afterwards we had an included lunch beer extra. I actually enjoyed the lunch. The driver was not English speaking but the guide was. They were both quite pleasant

Great day trip if you've already spent some time in Bogota. It does take a while, though, so not ideal if you only have 1 day in the city.

The tour starts with a pickup from your hotel, and away you go to The Salt Cathedral! Our guide was Andrea and we had a good conversation throughout the tour. Lunch was provided in Zipaquira and it was good local fare. This tour is recommended!

Siva, Dec 2017
We were picked up from our hotel in Bogota by 9 am and we reached Zipaquira within an hour. The tour in the Salt mine and Cathedral was in English and it included a movie and light show. Total it took 2 hours to complete the tour and on our way back we stopped at the Main square. We also enjoyed the Vegetarian lunch provided at a restaurant in Zipaquira itself. We returned to Bogota by 3 pm. It was a worthwhile tour and well arranged. The guide and driver both were very helpful.

Natty, Nov 2017
Pros: 1. This cathedral is AMAZING and well worth a visit if you are coming to Bogota plus, it will break up your stay in Bogota 2. Guides were very nice people Cons: 1. Showed up 30 minutes late. I was dog dead tired and exhausted, but I still showed up on time. If I had known they would be that late, I could have slept another 30 minutes. They did not proactively reach out and tell me how late they would be either, so we just sat their waiting for them to arrive 2. They took a lot of pictures of us. To be fair, they asked if this was okay in the beginning and we said sure. However, at lunch, they kept taking pictures of us eating and I said I didn't want anymore pictures, but they kept taking them. I highly recommend the cathedral itself - but I am mixed on this particular tour group.

A nice private tour to see the salt cathedral. Our guide Andrea and the driver handled all the logistics. Learned a few things about Columbia and Bogota on the way. The lunch was great as well. Overall, a very relaxing experience.

Andrea guide and Wilson driver were fabulous! This is an absolute must tour when in Bogota. The Salt Cathedral is amazing as is the shopping there. The town of Zipaquira is beautiful and charming. If you're luck the old church in town will be open so you can see how beautiful it is inside. Lunch in town was incredible. Fabulous local food soups and meats. Insider tip: stop at the Café on the Plaza in town to buy some Tres Leches cake!!!!!

This tour was awesome, our guide Kelly was a young lady full of knowledge with perfect English! She was very informative and chatted the entire time. The Salt Cathedral was so cool and the time inside went quicker than expected. The traditional Colombian lunch was delicious and the town of Zipaquira was quaint. I would recommend this tour!

My daughter and I looked for an easy day tour from Bogota and ordered this trip. Andrea and her driver came to pick us up from our hotel in a comfortable car and within 40 minutes we were out of the urban views of Bogota. The trip is worth it, the guidance at the mines enjoyable and the views of Colombia are great. Andrea is lively, has an excellent English and was able to answer all of our question.

The salt cathedral is really worth seeing. Although it rained the day we we're there our guide drove us through the town to see the square and provide history of area. Enjoyed a Columbian lunch and a bit of sightseeing. Rain, not guide prevented us from spending more time around square

One of the wonders of Colombia!! Relaxing trip to Zipaquira through the Bogota savanna. Our tour guides Andrea and driver were very professional and accommodating. Miraculous achievement by the miners to build such spectacular cathedral.

Muriel F, Apr 2017
Tour company doesn't deliver. Major ripoff. We paid for an English speaking guide but ended up with a driver who spoke no English. He was nice. When we arrived in Zipaquira we were met by an English speaking guide for a tour of the square - 5 minutes- and taking us to the Salt Cathedral but after the tour it was back to our Spanish speaking only driver. So we couldn't ask any questions or learn anything. Tour would have been cheaper to hire a taxi to drive us there, then taken the tour of salt cathedral. The salt cathedral tours are in English but not part of this tour company. Plus it took us 3 hours to drive 27 kilometers back but we have no idea why since the driver didn't speak English.

Susan L, Apr 2017
The visit to the salt cathedral is quite a unique experience. Be prepared for traffic delays leaving Bogota. However, our guide Andrea filled in the time with a lot of interesting information about Colombia and everyday life. Zipaquira is an interesting little colonial town well worth a visit. The tour of the salt cathedral goes about 1 km into the mountain but is an easy walk with plenty of stops and photo opportunities. Could have done with longer at the end of the tour to see the video and check out the shops.

Visit to Salt Cathedral was a wonderful day. Our guide, Andrea, spoke English perfectly and loved answering our questions about her country. After the Salt Cathedral tour we ate a delicious Colombian lunch at a local restaurant in Zipaquira followed by a walk in the town to two plazas including seeing the town cathedral. The driver was excellent and the car was very clean and comfortable. Highly recommend this tour guide and driver.

The tour was very good, from the time we were fetched from our Hotel, the tour guide was very attentive to our questions, though she is still learning her trade was very good in explaining and pointing to us the area. We find the salt mines and its cathedrals exceptional. The Independence square and other plazas were also visited. Our lunch was very good. I will recommend this tour to my friends, we enjoyed it very much!

Our guide and driver picked us up...

Elizabeth P, Feb 2017
Our guide and driver picked us up right on time and we arrived at the Salt Cathedral just in time for the 10AM English tour. We were fortunate enough to be part of a small group for the tour 10 people. The cathedral is something not to be missed during a trip to Bogota. Unlike anything I've ever seen anywhere in the world. It's located 180 meters below ground, so even if it would have been rainy it doesn't matter, you still get awesome photos. The only thing I would have liked more would have been to be able to include the additional tour in the mine which is called La Ruta Minera. This wasn't offered as a part of this tour and we did not have time to try and add it. It costs only a couple of dollars more, lasts 30 minutes and supposedly provides more insight into the mining operation and techniques. During our stop in the city of Zipaquira we were fortunate because the church was open and we could go inside. Very pretty Spanish-style with interior walls of hewn rocks and bricks. Excellent lunch was provided and out guide and driver did a great job.

We thought we were getting a tour...

Karen G, Dec 2016
We thought we were getting a tour, but what we really got was a ride to the Salt Cathedral with an English-speaking translator. Our time and money would have been better spent to get ourselves to the Salt Cathedral and take the official tour there. Our English-speaking guide was very pleasant, but knew nothing about the sights we were seeing. We learned later that it was her first day on the job and that she has never even been in the Salt Cathedral herself.

Excellent guide!, very familiar with the areas, very safe trip, I will highly recommend them and use the same service if I have the opportunity to come back to Bogota.
