Very educational tour. If you love history, it’s amazing and beautiful. Our Tour guide was great, took us for a local lunch and everyone was so nice. The car ride is over 2 hrs each way so be prepared for a long day but so worth it. Gets hot in the afternoon. Driver provided water/soda. Also take money to tip driver and guide. It’s not included

Fantastic tour of Ephesus and the Virgin Mary house. Our guide also took us by a traditional Turkish rug making place that was fascinating, and delicious meal. She was so friendly, very educational and fun. It was very easy to coordinate from getting off our cruise boat in Bodrum, and getting us back on time. The van was very comfortable for our group and the perfect day

This review started off as a 5-star experience. Our tour guide picked us up at the port and informed us that Ephesus was about a two-hour drive away. We didn’t mind the drive at all. However, we only spent about two hours at Ephesus before being taken to a carpet shop, where we were brought into a private room and given a sales presentation for carpets. After that, we were taken to a market to sample and shop for Turkish delights.
At that point, we were already disappointed. We felt rushed through Ephesus, yet there was plenty of time allocated to these shopping stops, neither of which had been mentioned in the itinerary.
Things became even more concerning when our tour guide informed us that she would not be returning to the port with us because she lived two hours away. This immediately made us uneasy, especially since the driver did not speak English or Spanish.
On the drive back, the rear tire suddenly blew out and was completely shredded. The driver pulled over, but not far enough off the road, leaving us partially in the middle of the lane. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere, about an hour and a half from the port, unable to communicate effectively. We tried using Google Translate to offer help changing the tire and to ask whether another driver was coming. Unfortunately, the only person who could translate for us — our tour guide — had been dropped off 45 minutes earlier.
At one point, another cab driver stopped to offer assistance, but our driver turned him away. Eventually, another driver arrived about 40 minutes later. We had to communicate our destination by showing him the location on a map.
This situation would have been far less stressful if the tour guide had accompanied us back to the port, as other tour guides have done on previous excursions. Unfortunately, this incident was just the final straw in what turned out to be a very unpleasant experience.

We were genuinely sorry to read that the tire incident caused you stress on the way back to Bodrum. Unfortunately, unexpected road issues can happen even with regularly maintained vehicles and I completely understand that this made the experience uncomfortable for you.
At the same time, I kindly wanted to clarify a few points about the tour itself. During the drive to Ephesus, I mentioned the carpet weaving tradition and Turkish delights as part of introducing Turkish culture and local traditions. After completing the Ephesus program, and since You still had remaining time in the schedule, you visited these places as optional cultural stops. Our guides intention was never to rush your visit to Ephesus or create any pressure to purchase anything, but rather to give you a broader experience of local culture.
Regarding the vehicle issue, the tire problem was unfortunately a completely unexpected situation. However, as soon as it happened, another vehicle was arranged and you were safely transported back to the port. we truly wish the return journey had gone much more smoothly for you.

We had a great trip to Ephesus. Our guide Mert was very informative and we learned so much about the period. Our driver was great also. It was a full day and so interesting! Ephesus is being restored and is a grand step into the past!

Brilliant experience. Loved the tour vehicle, very comfortable and spacious. Great & experienced driver. Tour guide was fantastic. She was very experienced, kind & helpful. Didn’t rush us at all. Really appreciated her helping my elderly Mum whilst walking through the historical site. Learned lots about Ephesus & enjoyed the carpet factory stop too. Lunch was plentiful and very tasty. Would highly recommend this tour.

The visit to the Blessed Virgin Mary’s house was a highlight for us. Ephesus ruins were amazing as well.
It’s 2 hours from Bodrum port. Well worrh it for us. However it has stops at a rug shop and leather showcase.

We loved the Ephesus tour. We also appreciated the trip to Heirloom Rugs to see how they are made. We did NOT like being pressured into buying a rug. Then after we did buy a rug on May 31, 2025, we have yet to receive it on Oct 3, 2025. Where is it?? It was a long trip from Bodrum & back and did not appreciate the pressure to do other things including the House of Virgin Mary that we did not want to go to. Do not recommend.

The drive from Bodrum to Ephesus takes 3 hours, not 2 as advertised in the description. We only had time to visit the Ephesus ruins due to the amount if time it took to get there from our cruise port. We made it back onto the ship with 3 minutes to spare. It cost us $102 per person just for the bus ride there and we had to pay an additional 40 euros to get into Ephesus. Make sure to do your research before booking this specific excursion. We were very disappointed.

Thank you for your feed back. Normally it takes two hours to drive from Bodrum to Ephesus but traffic and weather conditions may effect the duration. It took only 2 hours 25 minutes to drive to ephesus for your tour.

Had a great experience booking through this agent as they were responsive to organising logistical details for the hotel pick up. Our guide Eylem was friendly and passionate about making sure our family (including two young children) had a fun time exploring and learning about the site in what can be very hot and demanding conditions. With hindsight i might have considered an evening option which is apparently stunning when the site is all lit up. Would happily recommend. Only suggestion is to include the ticket price in the tour cost to be more transparent and avoid the hassle of paying on the day but it does mean you can be a but more flexible with the itinerary if there are some of the smaller sites you want to skip.

We enjoyed out trip to Ephesus. Tas, the guide, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, courteous and proactive. My family had a blast and enjoyed the tour. Van was very comfortable. Driver was excellent.

The van was very large and nice. The guide did not give much history and did not speak on the drive at all (3 hours each way). Everything I learned about Ephesus was from Wikipedia. I don’t think she enjoys being a guide. Also the main monument that is on all of the puctures was built in 1978, it is not authentic

This was a wonderful historical and religious informational experience. Bano was a wonderful and informative guide who tailored our experience for us! Our driver was always there at the ready as well. Really nice guys. We enjoyed the Turkish coffee, candy shop that made it on site, ceramic shop owned by the same family for 7 generations, the carpet weaving and lunch spot that was awesome. Great food, great time, 100% recommended!!!

I recently took the Ephesus and House of Virgin Mary Tour, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, the tour was well-organized, informative, and deeply enriching.
Our guide Selim was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing detailed historical and cultural context that brought the ancient ruins of Ephesus to life. Walking through the marble streets, seeing the Library of Celsus, and standing in the Great Theatre where St. Paul once preached was awe-inspiring. The ruins are remarkably well-preserved, and it's easy to imagine life in this once-thriving Roman city.
The visit to the House of the Virgin Mary added a spiritual dimension to the tour. Tucked away on a peaceful mountain, the small stone house is believed to be where Mary spent her final years. Whether you're religious or not, the site radiates a sense of tranquility and reverence. Many visitors lit candles or left personal prayers at the wall near the spring — a touching tradition.
Logistically, the tour was smooth. The transportation was comfortable, with air conditioning (much appreciated in the Turkish summer), and the timing at each site was just right — not rushed but never dragging. We also had a break for a delicious local lunch, which was a nice bonus.
Final verdict:
If you're in the Izmir or Kusadasi area, this tour is a must. It combines stunning ancient architecture, spiritual heritage, and a knowledgeable guide for a well-rounded, deeply meaningful experience. Highly recommended for history lovers, pilgrims, and curious travelers alike.

Nur was our tour guide and she was a delight! She is extremely personable and immediately makes you feel like you’ve been friends for years. She took us to a local restaurant and it was the best and most delicious meal we had on our whole vacation! She is very knowledgeable about Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman histories and cultures, answering all of our questions. We highly recommend her as a guide!
